Puedo decirles que me siento orgullosa de la Cleyna puerpera que con dolor insufrible, heridas, cansancio y depresión post-parto logró superar la primera parte de su maternidad. Esos primeros 40 días interminables. Recuerdo cuando venía en el taxi del hospital, lloraba desconsolada porque en mi casa no habría médicos. Seríamos mi hija y yo solas esperando a papá que llegara del trabajo. Sería Cleyna contra el reflejo del espejo diciendo "no puedes con esto". Y mira, sí pude.

Una buena amiga dice, y adopté en mi pensamiento, que los hijos son como un videojuego. El primer nivel lo crees difícil porque aún no conoces el mecanismo y una vez que vas subiendo niveles, tu experiencia aumenta pero el juego definitivamente se complica y se hace cada vez más difícil. En mis primeros meses, sin dormir, recuperándome de una cesárea, aprendiendo sobre la marcha, no creía aquello de que podía empeorar. Luego llegó el miedo de cada examen, que si salía algo mal, que si se puede caer de la cama, que si se puede ahogar, que si tiene mucho reflujo, que si no hace popó en días, que si llora sin razón aparente, que si no duerme; y ni hablar de los peligros de los objetos pequeños que pueden tragar, cuando comienzan a correr, cuando se suben a todos lados y no puedes evitar alguna caída tormentosa y la fiebre, la temible fiebre; todo esto y un sin fin de posibles tragedias que pueden presentarse a diario.

También se sumó el hecho de dejarla sola con papá porque mamá debió salir a trabajar. La pandemia nos dio duro, como a todos. Leal trabajaba como delivery antes de la aparición del virus; eso le permitía pedalear día y noche sin dejar de atendernos simultáneamente. Su mamá y luego la mía (mi mamá llegó a Argentina cuando mi hija ya tenía casi 5 meses) nos apoyaban cómo podían y cuándo comenzó la cuarentena (comprenderán que un hombre asmático con alergias crónicas y una afección respiratoria comprometedora no podía seguir afuera arriesgándose) me tocó salir a trabajar. En aquel entonces tomé un empleo que hasta ahora me ha parecido el más rudo de todos los trabajos que he tenido. Fui cuidadora del adulto mayor, cuidaba a una abuelita de 89 años los fines de semana, 70 horas corridas atendiendo a una señora con Alzheimer en vez de cuidar a mi hija. No les voy a negar que me gusta trabajar. Estar encerrada en mi casa acrecentó mi depresión, pero perderme cosas importantes como los primeros pasos de mi hija, tampoco era lo que deseaba.

Ahora que las cosas se han estabilizado un poco. La pandemia continúa pero estamos aprendiendo a vivir con ella, he visto a mi hija crecer y crecer. Ya tiene 2 años y 5 meses, para mí eso es increíble. Y en retrospectiva digo, qué difícil pero qué satisfacción tan grande se siente de saber que pude y que sigo en pie. Qué tengo un niña sana, sonriente, que aprende a diario miles de cosas. Aunque mucho de eso no es por mi propio mérito sino gracias al esfuerzo y la ayuda que he recibido. A veces siento que he perdido varios desafíos, por ejemplo, mi hija tiene como autoridad a su papá para comer y a la hora de dormir y eso es para mí un golpe al ego; soy tan dominante que me cuesta aceptarlo, pero entiendo que él se ganó ese respeto. Así como también veo a mi hija refugiarse en su abuela cómo su mejor amiga de juegos, ya que ellas juegan todo el día cuando mi mamá está en casa. Y si me permiten un momento de sinceridad, muchas veces me siento incapaz. Como si no soy lo suficientemente buena. Y no es porque me menosprecie, yo sé lo que soy y lo que hago por mi hija, trabajo duro para darle todo lo que necesite, procuro su salud, vestido, comida y todo lo que un padre o madre debe darle a sus hijos, pero tengo mis carencias... Jugar con ella es una tarea difícil (sobre todo si vengo cansada del trabajo), responder a sus mil llamados de "mami, mami, mami" por minuto, atenderla aún cuando estoy de mal humor o cuando me patea la cara por andar brincando. Luego respiro y me digo "es mi hija, tengo que poder hacerlo" y su sonrisa me motiva a dejar el mal genio.

Sometimes I feel that I have lost several challenges, for example, my daughter has her dad as authority to eat and at bedtime and that is a blow to my ego; I am so dominant that it is hard for me to accept it, but I understand that he earned that respect. Just as I also see my daughter retreat to her grandmother as her best play friend, since they play all day when my mom is home. And if you'll allow me a moment of honesty, I often feel helpless. Like I'm not good enough. And it's not because I belittle myself, I know what I am and what I do for my daughter, I work hard to give her everything she needs, I provide for her health, clothes, food and everything a parent should give their children, but I have my shortcomings.... Playing with her is a difficult task (especially if I am tired from work), answering her thousand calls of "mommy, mommy, mommy" per minute, attending to her even when I am in a bad mood or when she kicks me in the face for jumping around. Then I take a breath and say to myself "she's my daughter, I have to be able to do it" and her smile motivates me to let go of my temper.
Lo cierto es que no creo que hayan madres perfectas, seguro si hay un concurso no ganaría yo el premio a "la mejor mamá del mundo" , pero sí estoy segura del amor que siento por mi hija y de hacer todo lo que esté en mis manos por su felicidad. Equivocándome todos los días, aprendiendo con ella y superando nivel tras nivel, porque no piensen que el videojuego ha terminado, aún me quedan muchas, muchas etapas por descubrir y desbloquear. Aún me queda mucho tiempo de jugar a ser mamá.
