For the past 15 days, I've been helping my oldest son with his final chemistry project. It involved creating a chemical product for hygiene or skin care, based on market research and surveys to understand what people prefer. My son and his classmates decided to make a shampoo, and after their research, the final product ended up being aloe vera-based.
Frescura Dorada - Un proyecto escolar y familiar con aroma a éxito
Desde hace 15 días he estado apoyando a mi hijo mayor en su proyecto final de la asignatura de química. Se trató de elaborar un producto químico para la higiene o cuidado de la piel, basado en la investigación del mercado y través de encuestas para saber que prefieren las personas. A mi hijo y sus compañeros les tocó elaborar un shampoo, y tras el proceso de investigación, el producto final sería a base de aloe vera.
This whole process made me think back to my own youth when I was a student. I remember asking my mom to help me with math and my dad with physics—they were both really good at those subjects. I handled everything else myself. This time around, my wife and I helped our son by making the shampoo, finding the formula and base components, sourcing the typical bottles and caps for this type of product, creating the advertising, brand design, videos, a banner, and so on.
Este proceso me hice pensar en lo que fue mi tiempo de joven cuando estudiaba, recuerdo que pedía ayuda a mi mamá para que me explicara matemáticas, y a mi padre en física, ambos son muy bueno en estas asignaturas, de lo demás me encargaba yo. En esta oportunidad, mi esposa y yo ayudamos a mi hijo elaborando el shampoo, buscando la fórmula y los componentes base, los envases y tapas típicas de este producto, la publicidad, el diseño de la marca, videos, pendón, etc.

The project was all about the complete experience. It wasn't just about making the shampoo; it also involved promoting it using social media and creating a visual identity. Of course, it was simple, but it served as a first-hand experience for these young people to see how modern commerce works. My son is usually very responsible with his assignments, but this time, my wife and I had to get heavily involved because obtaining raw materials and managing social media weren't things our son was familiar with. So, we guided him through the process.
El proyecto se basaba en toda la experiencia, no solo fue hacer el shampoo, también promocionarlo usando redes sociales y creando una identidad visual, algo sencillo por su puesto, pero que sirviera de primera experiencia para estos jovenes de como es el comercio actual. Mi hijo es muy responsable con sus tareas, pero esta vez nos tocó a mi esposa y a mi involucrarnos mucho, porque conseguir la materia prima y el manejo de las redes no es algo con lo que nuestro hijo estaba familiarizado, así que le acompañamos en el proceso.

My wife took charge of manufacturing the shampoo. She found the formula and raw materials, as well as the containers and caps for this type of product. I supported them with the visual identity. I vectorized the logo they created, which they decided to call "Golden Freshness." I also created a simple design for printing labels for the bottles, edited a video they recorded (which you can see on the Instagram account @shampoo_fd, and ended up making them a 60cm x 90cm banner to use as a visual aid for their presentation and project defense before a panel of teachers.
Mi esposa se encargó de la fabricación del shampoo, dio con la formula y la materia prima, también con los envases y tapas para este tipo de producto. Yo le apoye con la identidad visual, les vectoricé el logo que ellos crearon, decidieron llamarlo "Frescura Dorada", les cree el arte sencillo para imprimir unas etiquetas para los envases, les edite un video que ellos grabaron que lo pueden ver en la cuenta de instagram @shampoo_fd y termine haciéndoles un pendón de 60cm x 90cm que les sirviera como apoyo visual para su presentación y defensa del proyecto ante un jurado de profesores.

In the end, everything turned out very well, despite the kids' inexperience. They put in a lot of effort and relied on us, and I'm pleased with the result, even though it all came together in just a few days. Their product idea was really good; it wasn't overly innovative, but it was the direct result of their surveys. After all the investment, the final cost of the product would be $1.50 for a 400 ml bottle. For me, it was a fun and satisfying experience to have the knowledge needed to support my son.
Al final todo quedo muy bien a pesar de la inexperiencia de los muchachos, que pusieron su empeño y se apoyaron en nosotros, el resultado me complace a pesar de lograrse en tan pocos días. Su idea del producto fue muy buena, no es algo tan innovador pero fue el resultado de las encuestas. Tras todo lo invertido el costo final del producto sería de $1.5 para el envase de 400 ml. Para mi fue una experiencia divertida porque y satisfactoria de poder contar con el conocimiento necesario para darle apoyo a mi hijo.
