Last weekend we lived an incredible experience. My son attended a soccer event for the first time. It was his first championship and it was very special because it also had a very noble purpose behind it. It was the Ecological Soccer Festival, organized by the Merida soccer federation and the organization Tapas por la vida, as part of the environmental day that was recently celebrated.

The objective of this tournament was to collect as many plastic caps as possible and the funds collected with these caps will be donated to the children with cancer at the Hospital Universitario de los Andes. The registration fee for the tournament was only 10 caps per player.
I thought it was excellent for Angel to live an experience like this and learn about recycling and all the benefits it has for our planet, since one of the planned activities included a talk with the children.
You can't imagine my son's excitement when he heard about this event. First, because he is very passionate about this sport and also because he always asks us to take him to visit stadiums and soccer fields. He says he wants to see them all. He was very excited to see the Guillermo Soto Rosa Olympic Stadium and his excitement grew when we told him that it was the training ground of the Estudiantes de Merida, whose children's team would be one of their opponents.
The festival consisted of 10-minute rotating games, with 05-minute breaks for hydration and changing courts. My boy's group was supposed to start at 1:30 in the afternoon, but we left earlier, so he could see his teammates who are in a higher category than him.

The day was beautiful and the sun was shining. Good thing the weather helped us, because it has been raining a lot on this side of the world lately. We enjoyed being with the boy in the stands while his classmates arrived. With every minute the boy's nerves increased, his biggest fear was that the other kids would be bigger than him.
The time came and we went down to the entrance of the field, where a giant couple was waiting for us with a Mérida flag t-shirt and a bag where the kids had to leave the soda caps.

I went in with the child for a moment and gave him a hug. I told him he would enjoy it very much. Here you see the children entering the field, while the representatives went back to the stands. The kids were a little uncomfortable because of all the protocol, pictures here, pictures there, they just wanted to step on the grass and start playing.

The boy's biggest fear came true, because two teams they played with were noticeably older than them, which I found a bit strange, because my son's group was supposed to be only for children born in 2019-2020, which corresponds to U-7. They were immediately intimidated and just tried to defend, but they had a hard time going for the goal.
But the situation changed in the later games, the kids were of similar size and level, so none of them had a noticeable advantage. The kids were tired, but they gave their all on the field, they came out winners in the last of the matches, which totaled 09 matches 1-0. That goal was celebrated by all the parents from the stands with great enthusiasm.

The day ended at about 3:30 pm, the child came out red from the sun but very happy. He did a good job and it is in these activities that they begin to gain confidence in themselves. They are sporting events that benefit them greatly. We had a great day, accompanying our son. When we left, we greeted him with a surprise and I bought him some soccer cards, which he loved.

These activities push us forward, bring us closer together as a family and motivate us. I like to see my son focused on his favorite sport and I am happy to see how, day by day, he learns and improves more. There is still a long way to go, but this first tournament for the kids, gives us a taste of everything that is to come and everyone did amazing.

El fin de semana pasado vivimos una experiencia increíble. Mi hijo asistió por primera vez a un evento de fútbol. Su primer campeonato y fue muy especial porque además tenía un propósito muy noble detrás de él. Disfrutamos con el niño en las gradas, mientras sus compañeros llegaban. Con cada minuto los nervios del niño se incrementaban, su mayor temor era que los demás niños fuesen más grandes que él.
Llegó el momento y bajamos a la entrada del campo, allí nos esperaban una pareja gigante con una franela de la bandera de Mérida y una bolsa donde los niños debían dejar las tapas de refresco.

Entré con el niño por un momento y le di un abrazo. Le dije que disfrutará mucho. Aquí ven a los niños entrando al campo, mientras que los representantes volvimos a las gradas. Los niños estaban un poco incómodos por todo el protocolo, fotos aquí, fotos allá, ellos simplemente querían pisar la grama y comenzar a jugar.

Son encuentros deportivos que los benefician en gran manera. Pasamos un gran día, acompañando a nuestro hijo. Al salir, lo recibimos con una sorpresa y es que le compré unas tarjetas de fútbol, que le encantaron.

Estas actividades nos impulsan a seguir adelante, nos une mucho más como familia y nos motiva. Me gusta ver a mi hijo enfocado en su deporte favorito y me alegra ver cómo, día a día, aprende y mejora más. Aún queda un largo camino por recorrer, pero este primer torneo de los niños, nos da un abreboca de todo lo que está por venir y todos lo hicieron increíble.
