The photos of mushrooms here were taken by me in the Bukit Barisan forest of Sumatra. They grow on the trunks of the areca trees that are still alive. they are a species of fungus Fomitopsis pinicola or commonly called the red-belted conk, belonging to the family Fomitopsidaceae.
Among this mushroom, termites also scrape areca trees and they build their nests out of clay.
This mushroom looks horribly damaged, most likely it was damaged by being eaten by termite colonies. You can see the termites nest nearby.
Fomitopsis pinicola are young, they look more like tree sap than mushrooms.
The photos below were taken by me in the bushes of a garden. It has unique common names, king Alfred's cake, cramp balls, also sometimes called coal mushrooms. It is a species Daldinia concentrica that belongs to the Hypoxylaceae family. It often grows on dead woody branches.
That is my nature adventure with mushrooms a few days ago, this is also my contribution to the Fungi Lovers Community.
