This post follows on from the previous post I wrote referring to The Sunrise at Linwood Warren (a local nature reserve). After I got the images of the sun coming up, my partner and I headed into the small patch of woodland next to to the Reserve.
There is only a small patch of trees, mostly Birch with some Oak trees in there as well. At this time of year it is a good time to go looking for mushrooms. As someone who appreciates nature in ALL its magnificence, I find mushrooms (and in fact the whole Fungi group) fascinating. There is so much variety in colour and size and shape.
And it does mean I have an opportunity to finally add something to the Fungi Lovers Community to celebrate #FungiFriday!
A type of Earthball Mushroom? (Scleroderma species)
However, I must confess I don't know a great deal about them. I know a reasonable amount about Insects (and other invertebrates) and I have a vague understanding of plants... but Mushrooms are beyond me
The Blusher (Amanita rubescens or perhaps a similar Amanita sp)?
Looking at info in guidebooks is difficult, as they vary in size, shape and colour as they mature. And then when they are a decent size they promptly get eaten by slugs...
Russula sp, several similar species here
This one is quite distinctive, but enven then I am not really able to get further than Russula species
Paxillus involutus - Brown Roll-rim
thanks to @qwerrie for help with Identification...
Common Puffball?
...and with this one, but there are 3 different Puffball species here in the UK, which is it?
Birch Polypore (Piptoporus betulinus)?
This is also very likely to be correct. There are several of these Polypore species, and they are all plant specific. This was found on a Birch Tree, hence I'm fairly certain it is a Birch Polypore.
Leccinum species - potentially Brown Birch Bolete (Leccinum scabrum) due to its habitat.
searching for Birch mushrooms led me to this ID, and it matches the photo I found online, but that doesn't mean its correct.
I have tried to ID some of these, but I am defeated by most of them. If anyone here has an idea of what some of these are then I would appreciate any assistance (even just to Genus or family level).
The next 8 images are of Mushrooms which have defeated me. Can anyone put me out of my misery?!
[Many thanks to @qwerrie for providing help with some ID's]
Extra Infomation: The location is in the middle of the UK. The time of year is September - Early Autumn. The woodland is mixed, but predominately features Silver Birch trees with the odd Oak tree scattered around. The soil nearby is from a mixture of wet/dry heathland habitat.
