Not much noise could be heard in the bush I was in. Only the chirping of the birds and the occasional flapping of their wings could be heard. Nature seems to be enveloped in silence, which makes me even more absorbed in observing many things there. That silence is by no means motionless. On the other hand, in that silence, the millions of movements of life abound, grow, spread, flower, bear fruit, fly, perch and so on.
One of the things I found in that silence were mushrooms that were growing like they were hiding under a bush. Of course there was some dead bark on which they grew.
From some of the information I got, I am sure that the mushrooms are what the Indonesian people call "Kulat Sisik", which means scales mushroom (information in Indonesian). They say this because the mushrooms appear to have scales on the cap.
Scales mushrooms can be found in tropical forests including in Sumatra, from Aceh to Lampung. Uniquely, the fungus does not grow throughout the year, but only once a year during the rainy season after the dry season at the beginning of the year. It is usually in April (this month) and May, and is only about 10 days old before it rot. There is some belief that the mushrooms usually grow when the first rains are accompanied by lightning. If the weather conditions are like that, then people in several places in Indonesia will go looking for the mushrooms because they are edible and have commercial value. They also mention that these scales mushrooms are a species in the family Cantharellus.
Apart from the mushrooms, which will only live for only about 10 days before rotting, in the silence of the bush, there are also dynamic and joyful moving things like these.
