This year is so dry. The usual fungi aren't showing themselves in many places but the Puffballs are having a field day.
Many paths and roadsides are playing host to Scleroderma cepa and Pisolithus tinctoris as they work hard to regenerate what Nature sees as dead compacted soil - something she doesn't like at all!
All along the paths you can find them in various stages of their lives, from little buttons just pushing through the soil, to gooey splodges after they have released their spores.
