This quote encapsulates the whole point of this blog, which I also keep close at heart everytime I'm starting at something and anxieties or doubts would eat my rationale and fears emerging at the same time. It's still fresh like yesterday when I decided to choose this training.
With that one step I took during my freshmen years, I'm now right here imparting my passion to encourage more youth to believe what I advocate. Leading a movement where each of us will make a difference from the monotonous system of cure and treatments in the Safety and Security department.
Initially, the goal was only to help but as many duties passed by, I have soon learned that administering aid to the injuries wouldn't resolve the roots of the entire problem. Not all time, we are there to give medical care for them. What if some conflicts arise and there's an unavailability from the unit? Who is going to help them now? However, casualties can be prevented if the students are aware of the possible disasters ahead, have knowledge on how to prevent and handle the situation, and skilled to give the proper interventions.
From there, a spirit of empowerment was born out of that cause justifying it into services.
"Empowering people, saving lives." This is where I'm at now. Equipping students, youth and volunteers from inside and outside the campus the necessary skills needed on giving proper handling and first aid in different emergency situations.
I once started as an introverted person trying to conquer her fears in public speaking, trembling while facing the crowd and discussing with limited lines. It has been over two years since I conducted my first lecture to an eager team who was greatly interested to learn. It was thrilling and made me re-evaluate myself at the same time, testing the extent of my skills and knowledge while also extending patience and energy to deliver the objectives asked within the given timeframe without showing much exhaustion.
It wasn't an easy transition. Who would even like to do what you dislike in the first place? I have rallied my courage to convince my fears to do what my passion commands. I've made some adjustments and experienced dilemmas, but here I am, strongly driven to push through and pursue the cause I have started until the last school days I will be attending in this campus.
From being an ordinary probationary medic to being the second in command in our school-based unit, we are still thriving with the same mission and vision despite the odds and criticisms. Looking back from two years ago, I have improved a lot from socializing with people to leading and teaching. However, I know for sure that even with these achievements, I'm still a beginner that needs to learn and practice more.
As long as I know WHY I'm doing this, I wouldn't be discouraged and get sidetracked. The journey ahead might be an arduous one with its long processes but I already have made efforts these two years, what's another TWO more?
If my past self could speak, she wouldn't probably believe what she is seeing right now. The introvert, timid and unsociable person I once was transitioned into something I couldn't imagine myself before. Though introverted side is still there, but at least I wasn't that timid and I could socialize more now. Passion can indeed bring out the best we have and pushed us to do things beyond our expectations. All it takes is just one step and everything can change.
