Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about what I was attempting to do for the month of September and how it didn't go as planned!

Self Control Gaps
As humans, we have a remarkable ability to be able to make choices. Animals and other species do for sure but I don't know how much of that is influenceable by conscious thought. What am I referring to here? The choices that we make every day and how some of the choices don't go in a way that we would like them to!
A few weeks ago I came up with the idea of trying to challenge myself in the month of September and October. The month of September was going to be a sweets-free September in that I was going to eliminate the sweet intake that I have. Granted I am not one to go out and get cakes and all kinds of other shit on a daily or weekly basis but I do indulge more than I ever used to before. How has the month of not getting this type of stuff gone? Well not exactly how I planned!
I knew this was going to be a challenge, which is why I decided to undertake it! I thought I could make it the whole month though without having an indulgence but sadly it didn't last that long before I cheated on it hahaha. For me though, that's okay. What's important is that I have greatly reduced the amount of sweet stuff that I am intaking on a weekly basis. I will say again that I don't eat the stuff daily but I thought I had a little more self control than I ended up having when it came to cutting the stuff out. We have had a few things that we went to and I saw the sweet stuff there and did overall better, only choosing specific ones instead of sampling a number of them so that is an improvement right there.
What I was hoping for was that I could have more control over saying no to something than I do. In the end though, I know that this was an important exercise and one that I think many people do not undertake because it's not easy. I know that there are so many things that are not easy and that's okay. Life is supposed to have challenges in it! Without challenges we don't really see what kind of person we are in my opinion. Challenges are the things that we are able to use to our advantage and grow physically, mentally and spiritually as people.
What I'm proud of for myself is that I have consciously reduced the intake of the things that I know are not good for my body nor health and I have noticed a decent increase in various positive things for my body and image. I don't get overly concerned about how my body looks, that's been something I have been able to keep in control for a while since I lost a decent amount of weight and put on some muscle years ago. The muscle isn't as toned as it used to but I control my diet in a way that I don't balloon up to twenty or thirty pounds higher than where I'm at now. What I am making more of an effort to do is to reduce the things that affect my weight and body more than others. Eating extra steak or chicken doesn't have the negative effect on our bodies that eating a donut or two would and that's an absolute certainty. These days, the things that are the worst for our health are the sugars and processed seed oils like canola, vegetable and other industrial oil poisons.
The less I'm able to eat the processed things like donuts, which inevitably contain both lots of sugar as well as lots of those horrible chemicals for our bodies, the healthier that I become. My joints are less achy, I have more energy and I'm able to do more things. I know that it's going to be a challenge to reject the sweets that I see when I'm out but it's a process for sure. By at least reducing what I am consuming, it gets me one step closer to the goal of eliminating it from my diet altogether except on rare occasions. Eliminating one piece at a time is far more achievable and successful than large scale reduction so that's what I am going with for this month of September. One step in the right direction at a time, with acknowledgement of the challenges I have!
