Each Thursday I select a Viking quote, sometimes randomly but ofttimes based upon relevance or meaning to my life at that point in time. Despite these phrases being over a thousand years old I believe most can still offer value in modern society and I find it interesting to ponder, weigh and measure them. _{original im src}

There's been times in my life in which I've had to wage a hard battle, dig deeply within to reach an objective, secure a result and achieve the mission. Those times have been many and varied; some physical and emotional and some financial although in truth adversity, those moments in which one must find hidden reserves of oneself, courage, bravery, fortitude, persistence, restraint and so on often cross over physical and emotional, or so I've found. Challenge can be all encompassing.

I'm old enough, and I hope wise enough, to look at my life objectively. I see it clearly; my failures and successes in all their shame an glory and I own them all. I see where I could have improved, fought harder perhaps, and where I could have done or given no more of myself. Am I content? - Yes, I believe so. Would I change certain things? - Of course. Do I hold regrets? - Yes, a few, but not too many.

I feel very strongly that a person must have a why, that is, a reason to achieve the mission no matter what it is. Is life itself enough or a why? Hmm, I'm not so sure.

When I read this Viking quote it makes me think about my reason, my why. There's no single reason for me though.

I want a good life, just isn't compelling enough for me and there's little clarity. I prefer many reasons, many why's, to help me move in the directions I'd like to go and achieve mission-success in the various aspects of life I choose. To me there's multiple missions within a lifetime.

Another way I read the quote is from the perspective of a desperate person - one such individual may fight hard for what they need or want, and I have also - however I prefer my why interpretation right now as it feels more controlled, strategised and focused.

I'm many things and, depending upon who you are, you'll see various elements of me. It's your prerogative to do so I'd that's how it should be. Some hate me and some like me, it's their choice.

However, I'm the real me and know myself better than any ever could. I show on hive a few different facets of myself through my writing and comments however much is private to me or those close enough to see with clarity - Sometimes though ,I'm compelled to open up to others, you know, those people who just seem to see right down inside without asking...It's actually quite a beautiful feeling to find one such person - The ability to let go a little, to bare one's heart, soul and mind. But most will never see more than their perception of me.

I'm not a hungry wolf but I hunger nonetheless.

It's the best version of myself I hunger for and I work towards it, know my reasons for wanting it and own the success or failure that results from the thoughts, attitudes and actions I take. Furthermore, I hunger for a best-life result and feel I sometimes even achieve it. No matter what though, I wage a hard battle because I'm worth it, life is worth it, and when I'm dead my fight will be over; best to live it now.

Having the right thoughts that affect my attitudes and actions are mission-critical and so this hungry wolf battles hard quote resonates with me because I battle hard, for myself and others as needed.
