Anywhere we go, we gotta make some impact, write down the names that, “XYZ was here.” We gotta create our legacy so that it gets passed down even if you aren’t there in future. As we know, people live thousands of years by the works they leave behind. May not be thousand, but as long as the relevant world exists.
In my workplace, when I first got into, i used to use projects created by ex-employees. We still do use them, because those researches and infrastructures took lots of hard works to build and now doing it from scratch would take us back for years. There was a specific name that used to pop-up over and over again, even I used that today but he isn’t here, never met him. That's what a legacy is, he isn’t here but what he has built shows the presence. In the early days, I used to think of it as being dependent on others, but now, when the workloads are massive, got to realized how much research and hard work is needed to build a project or working infrastructure. The stronger the structures are, the harder it is to replace them.
During my internship and a few months back, I used to contribute little by little to those projects, in those infrastructures. My senior made a few projects under his name, and I got my contribution acknowledgment as well. He taught me this ethics by giving me my share in contribution so that the next in line gets to know about our works even if we aren’t there anymore. Get to know what we have built, how much we went through.
Now, as I am progressing forward, I must mark my presence even more. What to do? Now that I am getting full fledged prs to work on, to research and do the PoCs, build the structures, so I must go all in to do in such a way that it holds my name. Hell yeah!
Me and my senior were exploring a new stack, for some projects purpose, he already made a side projects and there was another, i pickup up and started doing that/ One of my bad habits are that, I postpone things for prolonged time and when i get determine to get it done then i don't see where the clock is rotating. Thats what happened, it's an office task but still i didn't consider any 9-5 work hours, worked till the nights over and over again to get it done anyhow. And finally, VOILA!! It's done, from the start to finish went like a charm, I hope to implement this in the main production workflow. As I have done this, starting from the research, PoC, to implementation, he won't touch this anymore, this is under my name. That's how we grow and mark our presence, right?
To be honest, this kinda mindset is very important. You are getting paid for working for an entity, now if you can't leave behind a positive impact then what's the use of your existence? You came, worked, took salaries, and just vanished after a certain period of time? Aggghh! Not aligns with my ideology. So yeah, work for your impact, mark the name.
