Hello Everyone, It's a pleasure and an honor to be part of this family of great people with great and lovely mindsets and ideas of always bringing something very positive to the growth of the ecosystem... I greet y'all and I hope everyone here is doing well. This is actually my first time making a post here in this community sharing my latest experience that I'm so much in love with and I will be happy sharing that with you guys.
I've been privileged to be part of the communication team of Appcyclers, an innovative e waste startup providing up cycling solutions to solve e waste manaces.
As part of the projects for this year for appcyclers, we intend having an Edu waste campaign and our goal is to ensure that our core message is effectively communicated and raised awareness about the challenges and opportunities associated with e waste and its impact on climate change.
It's a wonderful experience but yet an anxious one because that was my first time on Radio but a long the line when the interview went on, I really enjoyed the process and I must say it's a wonderful experience.
We educated the public what e waste is about and we made our listeners understand that e waste refers to discarded electronic devices that have reached the end of their useful life and these devices may contain hazardous materials that can be harmful to the environment and human health if not disposed of properly and mentioned some of these devices... For example, computers, televisions, mobile phones, printers, refrigerators, air conditioner, washing machines, radios, cameras and whole lot.
We made our listeners understand the main cause of e waste in Ghana and its understandable that the main cause of e waste in Ghana has to do with technological advancements leading to replacement of old devices with new ones.
And how these causes have changes overtime.
*Importation of used electronic devices from developed countries.
*Poor disposal practices and inadequate e waste management infrastructure.
These causes have remained relatively constant over time, although the volume of e waste has increased due to growing use of electronic devices in Ghana.
The inspiration behind this radio campaign has to do with promoting sustainable e waste practices is important for protecting the environment and human health and it's a responsibility to share.
As part of our Advocacy, we shared with our listeners the negative impacts of e waste on our environment.
Improper disposal of e waste can lead to environmental and health hazards. The hazardous materials found in electronic devices, such as lead, mercury and cadmium can contaminate soil, air and water leading to negative impacts on ecosystems and human health. Exposure to these materials can cause respiratory problems, birth defects and other health issues.
These were some thematic areas we touched on but then, Going forward we still look up to reaching other radio stations in town so we can widespread the agenda and inform people about what e waste is all about.
Our able radio presenter did his best and I adore his skill and he mentioned that their station always welcome us to the stadium to continue the advocacy.
All in all, we had good time and it's a memorable to me in person
Thanks for reading!!
