This is one of the science fiction series that I usually like, and every few years one is released. The 3 Body Problem is the series I'm going to talk about in this post, a very mysterious series and a bit in the style of some others that I can't remember the name of at the moment. It's like an adult version of Stranger Things but without monsters or drama, just some science (of scientists) combined with science fiction and a bit of politics.

There they talk about the series as a "possible" allegory for TikTok and China, which is a bit beyond the series as such, but interesting.
Overall, there was only one thing I didn't like, and that was the fact that the ending was very unexciting and didn't even give us a small visual hint of who the mysterious beings approaching Earth were. I understand that maybe this was the least important thing about them, and maybe the producers did it this way to extend the plot to a second season.
The San-Ti are a kind of alien civilization more advanced than our own. They somehow made contact with our civilization during the Cold War, and all this time, through their advanced technology, they have been involved in human scientific developments, but not exactly helping us. Their home, a solar system of three stars, is being destroyed, and they are embarking on their new home, Earth. It will take them 400 years to arrive. They know we are inferior to them, but, there is a problem, in 400 years we will be able to surpass them vastly in technology, and they want to avoid that.
It's a complicated plot, I know, but it's that kind of science fiction that I personally love. This, of course, is not something you come to understand just with one episode, it's something that little by little the series reveals, while it becomes clear why so many strange things happen.
The main characters are mostly scientists and intellectuals, and it is shown how somehow the world and things seem to turn against them, preventing their success. This may make you think that it is a kind of analogy to the real world, where powers fight for technological and armament leadership, but it is already an interpretation of each one.
If you have seen Game of Thrones, you will surely recognize 3 of the main actors of that series. We are talking about the actors who play Davos, the High Sparrow and Samwell Tarly (Liam Cunningham, Jonathan Pryce and John Bradley). Of these three, I think I would have liked to have seen more screen time for Pryce, as he starred for me in one of the best scenes of the series: the conversation in which the San-Ti seem to be disappointed with the human race.
And this is no coincidence, given that both series with created by the same creators of Game of Thrones. I have no doubt that in the second season, they will add some other actor from Game of Thrones, and I think it would be a good idea for me to do so because it brings back some memories for some viewers and they associate the face with something "familiar".
Something I really liked about this series is the introduction of an environment very similar to what gaming and virtual reality is. The protagonists encounter some devices that look like virtual reality goggles, obviously put there by the San-Ti, but they work with a technology decades more advanced than ours, they don't have any wires, or input and in fact are able to introduce real sensations to the body.
Through these virtual reality glasses the characters must enter a remote world, with a setting of ancient times, in which they must save the people who live there. To do so, they must solve a problem: determine or calculate when there will be a time of chaos, depending on the location of the 3 suns in the sky. These people have human form, but are obviously a representation of the San-Ti people.
Interestingly, this ancient world depends on who wears the glasses. For Jin Cheng, a character with Asian features, the ancient world looks like an ancient Chinese civilization. When Jack Rooney wears the glasses, the setting is medieval England. Whoever wears someone else's glasses without permission is annihilated by a sword in the virtual simulation, which feels real in the body. Why these glasses show worlds with ancient (human) aspects is very intriguing. And even more intriguing is that to save the people there from times of chaos, you have to "dry them out", practically turning them into paper that you wrap them in, as the suns can burn a lot during times of chaos.
This tells us more or less what would be the real aspect of these extraterrestrials, which do not withstand high temperatures, and are able to "dry" to preserve themselves for many years, and then return to their original form by means of water. This series is too complex in its plot and I am not surprised that so much has been explained in only 8 chapters, given that the creators are the same as those of another series equally complex in plot: Game of Thrones.
I have not even talked about the character whose brain is frozen and launched into space in a ship to be intercepted by the San-Ti and these rebuild the body of the character only with his brain and thus, from the inside, try to sabotage them and fail in their mission to supposedly dominate the Earth along with the human race. Many times I really wondered who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys", if the humans or the San-Ti. Anyway, if you want to see a really fascinating sci-fi series, you must watch this one.

En general, sólo hubo una cosa que no me gustó, y fue el hecho de que el final fuera muy poco emocionante, y ni siquiera nos dió una pequeña muestra visual de quienes son los misteriosos seres que se aproximan a la Tierra. Entiendo que quizás esto era lo menos importante de ellos, y que quizás los productores lo hicieron así para extender la trama a una segunda temporada.

No me cabe duda de que en la segunda temporada añadirán a algún otro actor de Juego de Tronos, y creo que para mí sería un acierto hacerlo porque a ciertos expectadores les trae algunos recuerdos y asocian el rostro a algo "familiar".
Algo que me gustó mucho de esta serie es la introducción de un ambiente muy parecido a lo que es el gaming y la realidad virtual. Los protagonistas se encuentran con algunos artefactos que parecenn gafas de realidad virtual, obviamente puestos allí por los San-Ti, pero que funcionan con una tecnología décadas más avanzada que la nuestra, no tienen ningún tipo de cable, entrada y de hecho son capaces de introducir sensaciones reales al cuerpo.
Mediante estas gafas de realidad virtual los personajes deben entrar a un mundo remoto, con ambientación de épocas antiguas, en el que deben salvar a las personas que allí viven. Para hacerlo, deben resolver un problema: determinar o calcular cuando habrá una época de caos, dependiendo de la ubicación de los 3 soles que hay en el cielo. Estas personas tienen forma humana, pero obviamente son una representación del pueblo San-Ti.
Curiosamente, este mundo antiguo depende de quién lleve las gafas. Para Jin Cheng, un personaje con rasgos asiáticos, el mundo antiguo parece una antigua civilización china. Cuando Jack Rooney lleva las gafas, el escenario es la Inglaterra medieval. Quien lleva las gafas de otro sin permiso es aniquilado por una espada en la simulación virtual, que se siente real en el cuerpo. Es muy intrigante por qué estas gafas muestran mundos con aspectos antiguos (humanos). Y aún más intrigante es que para salvar a la gente de allí de los tiempos de caos, tienes que "secarlos", prácticamente convirtiéndolos en papel en el que los envuelves, ya que los soles pueden quemar mucho durante los tiempos de caos.
Esto nos dice más o menos cual sería el aspecto real de estos extraterrestres, que no soportan temperatures extremas, y son capaces de "secarse" para conservarse durante muchos años, y luego volver a su forma original mediante el agua. Esta serie es demasiado compleja en su trama y no me extraña que se haya explicado tanto en tan solo 8 capítulos, dado que los creadores son los mismos que los de otra serie igualmente compleja en trama: Juego de Tronos.
Ni siquiera he hablado del personaje cuyo cerebro es congelado y lanzado al espacio en una nave para ser interceptado por los San-Ti y estos reconstruir el cuerpo del personaje solo con su cerebro y así, desde dentro, intentar sabotearlos y fracasar en su misión de supuestamente dominar la Tierra junto con la raza humana. Muchas veces me pregunté realmente quienes son los "buenos" y quienes los "malos", si los humanos o los San-Ti. En fin, si quieres ver una serie de ciencia ficción realmente fascinante, debes ver ésta.
