The Batman is the film it promised to be and much more, in many of its aspects. Batman is a historical character, at this point in history everyone knows who Batman is. This character has gone through different stories, TV shows and movies, both animated and alive action; capturing Batman on the big screen requires a lot of effort and creativity since he has certain elements that cannot be appreciated very well if it is not a comic book. Taking into account that it is a character that lives off fiction, bringing him to the big screen without losing a large part of the elements that make him iconic is a very complicated task.
This is one of the best adaptations of the bat, Matt Reeves knew how to capture the main idea of what Batman is and mold it to give it a more realistic and somber touch to what we were used to with his previous adaptations. I'm not trying to take credit away from the other movies since each one shines in its own way but, personally, this is the movie that best captures the essence of Batman; and something in which this one shines by far is in giving space to Batman's detective side. The character is not only a night watchman with money and who knows how to fight and instill fear and all those things, but he is also the best detective in the world and that is a section that the other adaptations downplayed.
In Nolan's trilogy we see how Batman would be if he existed in real life with certain touches of fantasy, Snayder's Batman is more of a Batman who is giving way to the other heroes but is still a key player. This adaptation by Matt Reeves is a Batman who has only been around for two years and is finding his way as a representation of fear for criminals but also of hope for the inhabitants of Gotham City, and we can see that in the final scenes he literally becomes a beacon of hope for the people who were trapped by the flood.
Many people did not have hopes for Robert Pattinson as Batman, I personally was in a middle ground, I did not see what was wrong with his performance but I did not praise him either, after watching the movie I have to say that Pattinson did a great job as Batman, the expressions he manages to show with his eyes are brutal, he manages to instill fear in his enemies even if they take it as a joke, since we must not forget the element of realism with which the film counts. The detective side of Batman is finally captured and is more relevant than expected, since Riddler is the perfect villain to bring this side of the character into play. On the other hand, Pattinson's Bruce Wayne is not the typical interpretation we are used to, I would label him as being very emo, which is fine with the tone of the film but personally I did not think it was the best decision for an interpretation of Bruce Wayne.
The gadgets that Batman uses in this movie are adapted to each part of his suit, whose suit not only functions as a mask and symbol but each part of it serves a purpose. We see how the entire upper body functions as armor for the impact of bullets, the iconic hook that is integrated into the forearm and can use it when it suits him, the bat symbol on the chest is not only a symbol but he can use it as a batarang, although he has not thrown it throughout the film, he did use it to cut things. We also see the use of new technology such as contact lenses that serve to record and photograph everything Bruce sees, each gadget serves a function and to represent it in this way is just great.
The Batmobile deserves a special mention, along with its great scene, the look they decided to give it in this movie didn't convince me at all but it was acceptable considering the glass of realism that Reeves' movie drinks from. As for the appearance scene of the Batmobile I can simply say that it was one of the best scenes in the movie, the moment of the climax where it appears along with that intimidating provocation to the penguin to run away and start the chase, all that was one of the best scenes of the movie.
The cast of characters was exceptional, Andy Serkis does a great job as the Alfred of this Bruce, Zoë Kravitz playing Catwoman is great; the chemistry she manages to have with Pattinson reminds me of the story of Batman: Hush and all this trouble of running away together and Bruce's need to try to give Gotham a chance. Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon does an excellent job, as does Zoë, who manages to shine alongside Batman in every scene they have together. Last but not least, Colin Farrell as the Penguin is one of the best things about The Batman, his transformation is amazing and his performance is not far behind, being also an element with a very light touch of comedy in the film.
Paul Dano simply does an excellent job, his interpretation of Riddler I can say is a unique one, since I mentioned that this movie has a relist touch, and this adaptation of Riddler doesn't show how twisted and crazy he is to prove the truth of corruption before Gotham City. His presentation as the villain is superb and all the work throughout the film makes his performance stand out a lot. A very interesting point of this Hero-Villain duo is that they never have a physical confrontation, everything is based on a mental confrontation, and the scene they both share on screen lets us see how Riddler was a real challenge for Batman.
The Batman is full of symbolism, every single thing staged represents something and we can see this with just two key scenes in the movie, the first one happens in the opening sequence, when we see Batman's signal in the night. Just as Bruce narrates it in a voice-over that immerses more in the film, the signal is also a warning to the criminals of Gotham City. And the re-emergence of Batman as a symbol of hope, the blue tones before he falls into the water and then the red counterpart of the flare, just at the moment when Batman becomes the beacon of hope for those people.
The movie has a very considerable length, which can affect a lot for people who just want to see one more Batman movie. It has a good pace, but at times it can get a little slow and picks up the pace again with some action scene or plot twist. The Batman is a good adaptation and interpretation of the character, it explores forgotten aspects of the bat on the big screen, it gives him a realistic touch but with small fictional features from which he can't get rid of, otherwise it wouldn't be very funny.
I recommend it, I do not assure you that you will like it because everyone has different opinions, but I assure you that it is worth watching.

The Batman es la película que prometió ser y mucho más, en muchos de sus aspectos. Batman es un personaje histórico, a este punto de la historia todo el mundo sabe quién es Batman. Este personaje ha pasado por distintas historias, programas de tv y películas, tanto animadas como en alive action; lograr plasmar a Batman en la pantalla grande requiere de mucho esfuerzo y creatividad ya que tiene ciertos elementos que no logran apreciarse muy bien si no es un comic. Teniendo en cuenta que es un personaje que vive de lo ficticio llevarlo a gran pantalla sin que se pierda una gran parte de los elementos que lo hacen icónico es una tarea muy complicada.
Estamos ante una de las mejores adaptaciones del murciélago, Matt Reeves supo captar la idea principal de lo que es Batman y moldearlo para darle un toque más realista y sombrío a lo que estábamos acostumbrados con sus anteriores adaptaciones. No trato de quitarle el mérito a las otras películas ya que cada una reluce a su manera pero, en lo personal, esta es la película que mejor capta la esencia de Batman; y algo en lo que esta reluce por mucho es en darle espacio al lado detective de Batman. El personaje no solo es un vigilante nocturno con dinero y que sabe pelear e infunde miedo y todas esas cosas, sino que también es el mejor detective del mundo y ese es un apartado al cual las otras adaptaciones restaban importancia.
En la trilogía de Nolan vemos cómo sería Batman si existiera en la vida real con ciertos toques de fantasía, el Batman de Snayder es más un Batman que le esté cediendo el puesto los otros héroes pero que no deja de ser una pieza clave. Esta adaptación de Matt Reeves es un Batman que apenas lleva dos años y está encontrando su camino como una representación del miedo para los criminales pero también de esperanza para los habitantes de Ciudad Gótica, y eso lo podemos ver en las escenas finales literalmente se vuelve un faro de esperanza para las personas que estaban atrapadas por la inundación.
Mucha gente no le tenía esperanzas a Robert Pattinson como Batman, yo en lo personal me encontraba en un punto medio, no veía lo malo en lo interpretara pero tampoco lo alababa por eso, después de ver la película tengo que decir que Pattinson realizó un gran trabajo como Batman, las expresiones que logra demostrar con sus ojos son brutales, logra infundir miedo a sus enemigos aunque estos de buenas a primeras lo tomen como un chiste, puesto que no hay que olvidar el elemento de realismo con el que cuenta es cinta. La parte detective de Batman por fin es plasmada y es más relevante de lo que se espera ya que Riddler es el villano perfecto para poner en juego este lado del personaje. Por otra parte, el Bruce Wayne de Pattinson no es la típica interpretación a la que estamos acostumbrados, lo tildaría de ser muy emo, cosa que viene bien con el tono de la película pero que en lo personal no me pareció la mejor la mejor decisión para una interpretación de Bruce Wayne.
Los gadgets que usa Batman en esta película están adaptados a cada parte de su traje, cuyo traje no solo funciona como un antifaz y símbolo sino que cada parte de este cumple con una finalidad. Vemos como toda la parte del tren superior funciona como armadura para el impacto de la balas, el icónico gancho que está integrado al antebrazo y que puede usarlo cuando le conviene, el símbolo del murciélago en el pecho no es solo un símbolo sino que lo puede usar como batarang, aunque no lo haya lanzado en toda la película sí lo uso para cortar cosas. También vemos el uso de nuevas tecnología como los lentes de contacto que sirven para grabar y fotografiar todo lo que ve Bruce, cada gadget cumple con una función y que lo represente de esta forma es simplemente genial.
El batimovil merece una mención especial, junto a su gran escena, la apariencia que decidieron darle en esta película no me convencía del todo pero estuvo aceptable tomando en cuenta del vaso de realismo del que bebe la cinta de Reeves. En cuando a la escena de aparición del batimovil simplemente puedo decir que fue una de las mejores escenas en la película, el momento del clímax donde aparece junto a esa intimidante provocación al pingüino para que huyera y comenzara la persecución, todo eso fue una de las mejores escenas de la película.
El reparto de los personajes fue excepcional, Andy Serkis hace un bien trabajo como el Alfred de este Bruce, Zoë Kravitz interpretando a gatubela es genial; la química que logra tener con Pattinson me hace recodar a la historia de Batman: Hush y todo este problema de huir juntos y la necesidad de Bruce por tratar de una oportunidad a Ciudad Gótica. Jeffrey Wright en la piel de James Gordon hace un excelente trabajo, al igual que Zoë, este logra relucir junto a Batman en cada una de las escenas que tiene juntos. Por último pero no menos importante, Colin Farrell como el pingüino es una de las mejores cosas que tiene The Batman, su transformación es asombrosa y su interpretación no se queda muy atrás, siendo también un elemento con un toque muy leve de comedia en la cinta.
Paul Dano simplemente hace un excelente trabajo, su interpretación de Riddler puedo decir que es una única, puesto que les mencioné que esta película cuenta con un toque relista, y esta adaptación de Riddler no muestra lo retorcido y loco que está por demostrar la verdad de la corrupción ante Ciudad Gótica. Su presentación como villano es magnífica y todo el trabajo a lo largo de la película hace que su actuación resalte mucho. Un punto muy interesante de esta dupla Héroe-Villano es que nunca tienen un enfrentamiento físico, todo se basa en una confrontación mental, y la escena que ambos comparten en pantalla nos deja ver como Riddler fue un verdadero desafío para Batman.
The Batman está llena de simbología, cada cosa puesta en escena representa algo y esto lo podemos observar con solo dos escenas clave en la película, la primera sucede en la secuencia inicial, cuando vemos la señal de Batman en la noche. Justo como lo relata Bruce en una voz en off que sumerge más en la película, la señal también es una advertencia para los criminales de Ciudad Gótica. Y el resurgimiento de Batman como símbolo de esperanza, los tonos azules antes de que callera al agua y luego la contraparte del color rojo de la bengala, justo en el momento en que Batman se vuelve el faro de esperanza para esas personas.
La película tiene una duración muy considerable, lo cual puede afectar mucho para personas que solo quieran ver una película más de Batman. Tiene buen ritmo, pero en ocasiones se puede volver un poco lenta y retoma el ritmo otra vez con alguna escena de acción o plot twist. The Batman es una buena adaptación e interpretación del personaje, explora aspectos olvidados del murciélago en la gran pantalla, le da un toque realista pero con pequeños rasgos ficticios de los cuales no puede desprenderse, sino no tendría mucha gracia.
Se las recomiendo, no les aseguro que les guste porque cada quien tiene opiniones diferentes, pero si les aseguro que vale la pena verla.
