Alzheimer's is a disease that degenerates the person who suffers from it, whether the person suffers from it by genetics or simply develops it. I am not one to watch movies about diseases and animals since I usually end up crying over the death of a dog or something like that, and the first one is not my kind of movie but when I saw this one I didn't think it was about this kind of disease, or at least part of it. Even though it seems counterproductive, and the title gives you a hint as to what it is, that's the least I thought of when I was watching Killer With No Memory.
When you see a movie where Liam Neeson is the main image one of the things you can expect is that he is the main character and that it has action. Well, Killer With No Memory does both, or that's what I want to believe, it's this kind of movie that introduces certain characters and makes you think they are the main characters but actually as the plot progresses they are left in a more secondary plane but without disappearing completely. On this occasion, that happens and although I would have liked to see a little more of Liam Neeson as the main actor, he does fulfill his role and his screen time feels good.
Killer with no memory is about Alex Lewis, a murderous assassin who is pursued by a criminal organization for not fulfilling a task assigned to him, an important fact about the protagonist, he develops Alzheimer's which makes things a little more complicated. On the other hand we have the FBI investigating a network of prostitution of minors at the same time that Alex crosses their path. The two meet and in a strange way work together to stop the prostitution ring. It is not a very complicated plot, it is something simple to digest but what is interesting, at least for me, is the way in which they complicate the plot a little bit because of Alex's Alzheimer's.
At first instance in the film we are introduced to Ales Lewis (Liam Neeson) as the protagonist, and with that you can assume that he will be the weight and central focus of the plot, but the more we advance in it the more we realize that it is being left in a secondary plane to give more prominence to the other characters and not only that, but I would say with total certainty that the real protagonist of this film is the story itself.
I know it sounds a bit far-fetched to think that for the first time I realize that but I hadn't thought carefully about how possible this could be. Let's see, in order to make a story we need a factor that triggers everything that develops in the plot of the story and following that we are introduced to the characters involved since there is no story without characters and characters without a story. But it wasn't until I started to think more carefully about the film in general rather than as a simple, ordinary action movie.
Killer With No Memory is nothing to write home about, it has action scenes, a plot with a police case and complications to solve, in a way it has sub-plots that trigger the end of the movie and most importantly, it has Liam Nesson playing a completely different role than what he always does in his movies. Ok, that last one was sarcasm. But what did take me a bit by surprise was the use of Alzheimer's as a pretext to give a slightly different twist to the whole thing, which ultimately serves as an eye-catching way to give a bit of tension to the various situations shown in the film.
Obviously the other participations are not completely overshadowed, Guy Pearce does an excellent job as Vicent Serra, occupying an almost leading role next to Liam Neeson, being basically his counterpart in the story and the right person to do all the necessary legal actions to finish the case he is investigating. I especially liked the participation of Harold Torres in the movie, he is not a character that seems so relevant in the whole story but he does his part and his screen presence was good every time he had the chance to appear in it.
I can say that Killer With No Memory is just another Liam Neeson movie but this time with a slightly elaborate pretext to give a little more intrigue to the plot. But I actually liked it, it's not a movie with a mega plot or super plot twist, it serves to entertain and keep you up to date with what's going on. Personally it's not the best movie I've seen starring Liam Neeson but it does the job of keeping you up to date with what's going on and the plot is interesting at the end of the day.
I recommend it if you're going to fall back on the old reliable repertoire of Liam Neeson movies and want to have a different kind of time. See you next time!

El Alzheimer es una enfermedad que degenera a la persona que lo padece, ya sea que la persona lo padezca por genética o simplemente se desarrolle en ella. No soy de ver películas sobre enfermedades y animales ya que por lo general termino llorando por la muerte de algún perro o algo por el estilo, y la primera no es mi tipo de películas pero al ver esta no creía que se trataba, o por lo menos en una parte, sobre este tipo de enfermedad. Aunque lo parezca contraproducente, y el titulo te de un indicio sobre lo que es, en lo menos que pensé era en eso cuando estaba viendo Asesino Sin Memoria.
Cuando ves una película donde Liam Neeson es la imagen principal una de las cosas que te puedes esperar es que sea el protagonista y que tenga acción. Bueno, Asesino Sin Memoria cumple en las dos, o eso es lo que quiero creer, es este tipo de películas que presenta a ciertos personajes y te hace pensar que son los protagonistas pero que realmente conforme vaya avanzando la trama van quedando en un plano más segundario pero sin llegar a desaparecer por completo. En esta ocasión, eso ocurre y aunque me habría gustado ver un poco más a Liam Neeson como actor principal, sí que cumple con su cometido y se siente bien su tiempo en pantalla.
Asesino sin Memoria va sobre Alex Lewis, un asesino asueldo que es perseguido por una organización criminal por no cumplir una tarea que se le fue asignada, dato importante sobre el protagonista, este desarrolla Alzheimer lo cual vuelve las cosas un poco más complicada. Por otro lado tenemos al FBI investigando una red de prostitución de menores al mismo tiempo que Alex se cruza en su camina. Ambos se encuentran y de una extraña manera trabajan juntos para detener la red de prostitución. No es un argumento muy complicado, es algo sencillo de digerir pero lo interesante, al menos para mí, es la forma en la que complican un poco la trama por el Alzheimer de Alex.
De primera instancia en la película se nos presenta a Ales Lewis (Liam Neeson) como protagonista, y con eso puedes asumir que él va a ser el peso y foco central de la trama, pero mientras más avanzamos en ella más nos damos cuenta que va quedando en un plano segundario para darle más protagonismo a los otros personajes y no solo eso, sino que diría con total seguridad que el verdadero protagonista de esta película es la historia en sí misma.
Sé que suena un poco descabellado pensar que por primera vez me doy cuenta de eso pero no me había puesto a pensar con detenimiento lo posible que esto podía llegar a ser. A ver, para poder hacer una historia necesitamos un factor que desencadene todo lo que se desarrolla en la trama de la historia y a raíz de eso se nos presentan a los personajes involucrados ya que no hay historia sin personajes y personajes sin historia. Pero no fue hasta que puse a pensar más detenidamente en la película de forma general que más como una simple película común y corriente de acción.
Asesino Sin Memoria no es nada del otro mundo, tiene escenas de acción, una trama con un caso policial y complicaciones que resolver, de cierto modo tiene sub-tramas que desencadenan en el final del flime y lo más importante, tiene a Liam Nesson haciendo un papel completamente diferente a lo que siempre hace en sus películas. Ok, eso último fue sarcasmo. Pero lo que sí me tomo un poco por sorpresa fue la utilización del Alzheimer como pretexto para darle un toque un tanto diferente a todo esto, que a fin de cuentas sirve de forma vistosa para darle un poco tensión a las diversas situaciones que se muestran en la película.
Obviamente las demás participaciones no quedan completamente opacadas, Guy Pearce hace un excelente trabajo como Vicent Serra, ocupando un papel casi protagónico junto a Liam Neeson, siendo básicamente su contraparte en la historia y la persona indicada para hacer todas las acciones legales necesarias para poder terminar el caso que está investigando. En especial me gustó la participación de Harold Torres en la película, no es un personaje que parezca tan relevante en toda la historia pero cumple con lo suyo y su presencia en pantalla estuvo bien cada que tuvo la oportunidad de aparecer en ella.
Puedo decir que Asesino Sin Memoria es una película más de Liam Neeson pero esta vez con un pretexto un poco elaborado para darle un poco más de intriga a la trama. Pero en realidad me gusto, no es una película con un mega argumento o con súper plot twist, sirve para entretener y mantenerte al tanto de lo que pasa. Personalmente no es la mejor película que he visto donde Liam Neeson sea protagonista pero cumple con el cometido mantenerte al tanto de lo que pasa y su argumento a fin de cuentas es interesante.
Se las recomiendo si van a recurrir al viejo y confiable repertorio de películas de Liam Neeson y quieren pasar un rato distinto. Hasta la próxima!!!
