"Peach I know...we will rule at dawn..." Did you ever imagine Bowser singing? I definitely didn't and when we see the Evil Emperor express his intentions to marry Princess Peach I was just as surprised as the Koopa, these two aspects were definitely totally unexpected for the whole audience. Many of us grew up playing Mario Bros, Bowser always kidnapped the princess but who would have thought it was to get married, now the company Illumination shows us in the film the desires of the tyrant and gives "weight" to all those theories that many speculated about this peculiar event.

The Illumination studio as we are accustomed to has done a pretty clean job, was able to fit many elements of the video game both current and old and create a film that does not cease to be entertaining at any time. Mario and Luigi are two brothers who have decided to become plumbers, they don't have super powers or anything like that, they are just people trying to lead a normal life like many of us. Mario's character reflects a good attitude and perseverance in spite of the problems while Luigi is very cowardly, fear shelters him since he was a child and it is Mario who helps him and encourages him to move forward.

Princess Peach is a warrior, at times there is an air of feminism that surrounds the environment but when we analyze its context dissipates, Peach came to the mushroom kingdom when she was just a baby and there she was cared for by the Toad who taught her everything about that world and the kingdoms that inhabited there, later crowned her and since then they have her as their queen. Bowser on the other hand is the faithful antagonist and conqueror, he has that touch of cruelty that usually draws attention to the villains, but being a film that has as its main audience children his appearance and personality are not so evil, there is a good balance in his character.

The story is extremely striking, Mario and Luigi trying to fix plumbing problems in their city fall into a subway place where they are absorbed by a pipe and transferred to a totally unknown world, Mario reaches the mushroom kingdom while Luigi ends up in the kingdom of the evil Bowser, Luigi is aware of his fears and quickly feels gloom, besides that as soon as he arrives he is attacked by a group of little bones to be later captured by Bowser's army, which locks him up to be sacrificed later.

For Mario things were not so bad in comparison, upon arriving at the mushroom kingdom is assisted by a Toad who has a complex of guardian of the Galaxy, this guides him to the Princess to ask for help to save his brother. Fortunately for Mario the kingdom is in a serious crisis, Bowser stole the star guarded by a kingdom of penguins and has become the most powerful being, before such a crisis the Princess decides to go to the kingdom of the jungle to ask for help, but before doing so teaches Mario to use the mushrooms that he hates so much to get powers to help him survive in this new world.

Here is where the characteristics of the Mario universe stand out the most, we can see scenarios like a game level with traps, difficult paths, carnivorous plants and much more, I must say that this element was very well cared for and correctly introduced in the plot, from this moment on it is like watching the video game "alive" so to speak, in the jungle we have nothing more and nothing less than Donkey Kong with a super egomaniac attitude but in turn we also observe the world of karts to later enjoy a chase against the kingdom of Bowser in the purest style of Mario karts.

The denouement of the film is full of surprises, as is usually the good triumphs over evil but along the way many exciting things happen, the truth is that we can return to see Bowser sing ballads addressed to his beloved Peach.

My final impressions

Seeing my kids happy after finishing the movie confirms me that it is a very good production, even my wife who always falls asleep finished watching it, it has definitely exceeded my expectations, initially it didn't catch my attention due to the fact that most video game adaptations are lousy but Mario has hit the nail on the head. The characters are well developed, each one of them has important participations, and I think the best thing has been to keep the originality of the saga joining old and new elements, in that point I give it a 10 because it is not easy to make a successful movie of an emblematic character of Nintendo as Super Mario is, I must say that the probabilities that most of the public of yesteryear did not like it were higher but at the end of all as far as I am concerned it has seemed a success, so if you have not seen it yet I encourage you to do it, surely you will enjoy it.

Super Mario Bros the movie: Una aventura cargada de romanticismo inesperado

“Peach yo sé que…gobernaremos al amanecer…” ¿Te imaginaste alguna vez a Bowser cantando? Yo definitivamente no y cuando vemos al Emperador del mal manifestar sus intenciones de casarse con la Princesa Peach quede igual de sorprendido que los Koopa, estos dos aspectos definitivamente fueron totalmente inesperados para toda la audiencia. Muchos de nosotros crecimos jugando Mario Bros, Bowser siempre secuestraba a la princesa pero quien iba a pensar que era para casarse, ahora la compañía Illumination nos muestra en la película los deseos del tirano y da “peso” a todas aquellas teorías que muchos especularon acerca de este peculiar evento.

El estudio de Illumination como nos tiene acostumbrados ha realizado un trabajo bastante limpio, pudo encajar muchos elementos del video juego tanto actuales como antiguos y crear una película que no deja de ser entretenida en ningún momento. Mario y Luigi son dos hermanos que han decidido emprender como plomeros, no tienen súper poderes ni nada de eso, simplemente son personas que intentan llevar una vida normal como muchos de nosotros. El carácter de Mario refleja una buena actitud y perseverancia a pesar de los problemas mientras que Luigi es muy cobarde, el temor lo cobija desde niño y es Mario quien lo ayuda y anima a salir adelante.

La Princesa Peach es toda una guerrera, por momentos hay un aire de feminismo que rodea el ambiente pero cuando analizamos su contexto se disipa, Peach llego al reino champiñón cuando era solo una bebe y allí fue cuidada por los Toad quienes le enseñaron todo acerca de ese mundo y los reinos que allí habitaban, posteriormente la coronaron y desde entonces la tienen como su reina. Bowser por otro lado es el fiel antagonista y conquistador, tiene ese toque de crueldad que suele llamar la atención en los villanos, pero al ser una película que tiene como publico principal los niños su apariencia y personalidad no son tan malvadas, hay un buen equilibrio en su personaje.

La historia es sumamente llamativa, Mario y Luigi tratando de arreglar los problemas de plomería en su ciudad caen en un lugar subterráneo donde son absorbidos por una tubería y trasladados a un mundo totalmente desconocido, Mario llega al reino champiñón mientras que Luigi desemboca en el reino del malvado Bowser, la suerte los separo y ahora cada uno le tocara estar lejos del otro, Luigi es consciente de sus temores y rápidamente siente penumbra, además que nada más llegar es atacado por un grupo de huesitos para posteriormente ser capturado por el ejército de Bowser, el cual lo encierra para ser sacrificado más adelante.

Para Mario las cosas no fueron tan malas en comparación, al llegar al reino champiñón es asistido por un Toad que tiene complejo de guardián de la Galaxia, este lo guía hacia la Princesa para que le pida ayuda para salvar a su hermano. Afortunadamente para Mario el reino se encuentra en una grave crisis, Bowser robo la estrella custodiada por un reino de pingüinos y se ha convertido en el ser más poderoso, ante tal crisis la Princesa decide ir al reino de la jungla para pedir ayuda, pero antes de hacerlo enseña a Mario a usar los champiñones que tanto el detesta para conseguir poderes que le ayuden a sobrevivir en este nuevo mundo.

Aquí es donde más resaltan las características del universo de Mario, podemos ver escenarios como un nivel de juego con trampas, caminos difíciles, plantas carnívoras y mucho más, debo decir que este elemento fue muy bien cuidado y correctamente introducido en la trama, a partir de este momento es como ver el video juego “vivo” por decirlo de alguna manera, en la jungla tenemos nada más y nada menos que a Donkey Kong con una actitud súper ególatra pero a su vez también observamos el mundo de los karts para más adelante disfrutar de una persecución contra el reino de Bowser al más puro estilo de Mario karts.

El desenlace de la película está lleno de sorpresas, como suele ser el bien triunfa sobre el mal pero en el camino ocurren muchas cosas emocionantes, lo cierto es que podemos volver a ver a Bowser cantar baladas dirigidas a su adorada Peach.

Mis impresiones finales

Ver a mis hijos contentos luego de terminar la película me confirma que es una muy buena producción, incluso mi esposa que siempre se duerme la termino de ver, definitivamente ha superado mis expectativas, inicialmente no me llamaba la atención por el hecho de que la mayoría de adaptaciones de videojuegos son pésimas pero Mario ha dado en el clavo. Los personajes son bien desarrollados, cada uno de ellos tiene importantes participaciones, y pienso que lo mejor ha sido mantener la originalidad de la saga uniendo viejos y nuevos elementos, en ese punto le doy un 10 porque no es sencillo sacar una película exitosa de un personaje emblemático de Nintendo como lo es Súper Mario, debo decir que las probabilidades de que a la mayoría del público de antaño no les gustara eran mayores pero al final de todo en lo que a mi concierne me ha parecido un éxito, así que si no la has visto aun te animo a hacerlo, seguramente la disfrutaras.
