Licorice Pizza is based on the story of love and friendship between Alana Kane starring Alana Haim (some know her as the bassist of the band The Haim) and Gary Valentine played by Cooper Hoffman. This seems to be a good match because their performances have strength and chemistry and you really get to understand and get into each other's story. Other outstanding performances, although short without being a cameo, are those of Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper, Tom Waits among other good actors who give a different touch to each stage of the film.

I must say that although I was not born in the 70's I find it a very striking era for all that it represented in the transition and social, political, economic and cultural changes, this film is set in a newly released year 70 and gradually events of the history of the United States are presented that are mixed with the individual history of each of the characters which makes this script a true work of art because it introduces us to a narrative with different frames and positions in the same timeline and theme. This grabs the viewer and connects them in such a way that you can't help but miss a minute of this fine film. Even the texture of the filming in terms of image was taken care of that resembles the period.

The cinematography is beautiful, the music is totally accurate and very well arranged by the hand of Jonny Greenwood creates an ideal environment not only for the characters but for those who enjoy the film. My recommendation is very good for this film especially for those who enjoy good cinema, that which is stylish and without many pretensions. An entertainment film well cared and especially very well made for the enjoyment of people like me who did not live the era but we like a lot of what it means in my case clothes, literature and music.

Two of my favorite scenes have to do with the tension between Alana and Gary because Gary obviously likes her and they argue because he wants to see her breasts. It's really funny the way that scene plays out because Gary also feels like it gives him some older man characteristics. The other was the performance of Bradley Cooper who plays Jon Peters his performance is one of the most outstanding in terms of resemblance to the real life person so I won't tell you more so you can see it for yourself. This is shaping up to be one of those good movies that I will surely watch again.
