Hello beautiful people, I hope you are very well, today I bring you the review of an Amazon prime video series that I saw recently and I wanted to share with you, I hope you like it and remember that this is just my humble opinion, greetings and see you next time!
Hello dear friends, I hope you are doing well. Today I am extremely happy to be back in one of my favorite communities movie and TV show, I want to share with you a series that I saw recently last month which has become very popular in social networks which made me curious, so I decided to give it a try, this time we will be talking about what I liked and what I didn't like about "The summer I Turned pretty " a series based on the novel by Jenny han the same creator of "All the boys I fell in love with".
The story is about Isabella Conklin or better known as Beli in the series, a 16 year old girl who narrates how her mother and her best friend Susana, have intertwined their lives through a custom of spending the summer together every year, which has led to the families being very close, to the point that Bely sees Susana as a second mother and Susana sees her as the daughter she never had.
Beli has a brother named Stevens who is best friends with Jeremiha and Conrad, Susana's sons, despite having grown so close almost as if they were relatives, Bely has always been in love with Conrad, Susana's oldest son, but he has always seen her as a younger sister or as a cousin. However, this summer everything changes because Bely is turning 16, she is more beautiful and changed, and she is completely determined that this will be the best summer of her life, but Conrad treats her worse than ever because he is going through a depression after he found out that his mother has a terminal illness, something that the rest of the family does not know and that explains Susana's eagerness to make this the best summer of everyone's life. Then many things start to happen, the summer develops in a different way, for Beli who was used to spend almost all the time at home with her mother and Susana, this time she takes the risk to go out with the boys and something very strange happens, because Jeremiha confesses her feelings and she reciprocates, to sum up the story all this love triangle ends up completely unfinished because this first season is based on the first book of Jenny Han's trilogy, the first book is "The summer I fell in love" the second "Without you there is no summer" and the third "We only have summer left".
Now what I liked and what I didn't like about the series: First of all the series went too fast for my taste I felt that there were many gaps in the story they went from one scene to another without context, which made it difficult for me to understand what was really happening, I don't understand if they made a series of six chapters because they had to put so unnecessary scenes that did not add anything to the story instead of placing scenes that gave me to understand what I didn't understand for not having read the book.
Second the theme of the soundtrack, I feel that they used all the most famous and popular songs nowadays, especially those that are fashionable in social networks, they used them as soundtrack of the series to make it a little more epic, but for me it was the opposite, it became basic, predictable and very unpleasant, for me the soundtrack in a series or a movie is very very important, to generate scenes that are memorable and with songs so well known they do not generate that for me.
Third, I don't know if the dialogues are the fault of the production or the writer, I don't know how much they stuck to the book, but the dialogues seemed very poor to me, the sentences that were supposed to be deep, didn't make any sense to me, I mean Bely said things without sense, I understand what a teenager is but I didn't like the sentences she said. The dialogues were very cliché, whatever should give "laughter" was lame, so that's another negative point.
Fourth I feel it is an average series, even though it is a teen romance series, I expected a lot more because it came from a writer I liked a lot, even though I didn't read the books I had faith in this series. I would give it a 6 out of 10 because it wasn't that I completely disliked it, it's entertaining, not so bad as to say how awful, but I didn't love it either.
