Escribo esto mientras tengo migraña, tengo el oído inflamado, veo borroso porque no tengo lentes, y escucho el soundtrack de esta esta película mesiéndome de lado a lado porque si dejo de moverme los pensamientos en mi mente no me van a dejar escribir nada en este intento de reseña que va a ser más un trauma dumbping que otra cosa, que nadie va a leer, que quizás no llegue a publicar, pero así está bien, desde hace mucho tiempo que detesto el hecho de que me perciban, así que no quiero que eso cambie.
Este no es una película para el mundo en general, así que probablemente no les va a llamar la atención, o quizás lo haga, pero al verla van a darse cuenta de que no les gusta, les va a parecer mala, la van a dejar de ver y la van a criticar con toda su alma. Esta película explora casi a la perfección el terror que es existir con un género diferente al que te dan cuando naces, con gustos que no cumplen las normas sociales esperadas a dicho género, y cómo todo eso te lleva a un nivel de despersonalización tan profundo que no te llegas a reconocer como una persona en ningún sentido de la palabra.
I forgot how to do this, it's been many months since I stopped writing, all the words are locked in my mind and never see the moonlight. I write this while I have a migraine, my ear is swollen, I see blurry because I don't have glasses, and I listen to the soundtrack of this movie rocking me from side to side because if I stop moving the thoughts in my mind won't let me write anything in this attempted review that is going to be more of a dumbping trauma than anything else, that no one will read, that I might not get to publish, but that's okay, I've long hated the fact that I'm perceived, so I don't want that to change.
This is not a movie for the world at large, so it's probably not going to get their attention, or maybe it will, but when they see it they're going to realize they don't like it, they're going to find it bad, they're going to stop watching it and they're going to criticize it with all their souls. This film almost perfectly explores the terror of existing with a different gender than the one you are born with, with tastes that don't meet the social norms expected of that gender, and how all of that leads to a level of depersonalization so profound that you don't recognize yourself as a person in any sense of the word.
Por alguna razón las opiniones y críticas que más se hacen escuchar son las negativas, y esas fueron las primeras que llegaron a mí sobre esta película, no les presté atención porque el hecho de que la criticaran tan horrible y dijeran que era muy mala, solo hacía que me dieran más ganas de verla, pero huba una sola opinión positiva que leí, bueno, no leí, pero solo el título me detuvo en seco y no pude ni siquiera querer ver la película por mucho tiempo. Dicho título decía que la película exploraba el género como body horror, y tan solo la idea de ver una película con ese enfoque me hizo querer arrancarme la piel de la cara de toda la incomodidad y sufrimiento que me iba a causar, así que dije no, la veré después cuando sepa que no me va a afectar tanto, agradezco haberlo hecho.
Esta es una de esas película que demuestra con maestría el arte que es el show and don't tell, porque la película por si sola no te dice en absoluto más de lo necesario, cada persona tiene que sacar sus propias conclusiones y crear sus propias teorias sobre lo que vieron en la pantalla, porque así como existen billones de personas, y cada persona tiene su propia experiencia con el género con el que existen, cada persona tiene una percepción diferente de lo que esta película expresa en general, sin darnos una descripción exacta de lo que está pasando, pues nadie lo sabe con certeza, las interpretaciones que se le pueden dar son infinitas, y ninguna va a ser más acertada que otra.
For some reason the opinions and reviews that are most often heard are the negative ones, and those were the first ones that came to me about this movie, I didn't pay attention to them because the fact that they criticized it so horribly and said it was very bad, only made me want to see it more, but there was only one positive opinion that I read, well, I didn't read, but only the title stopped me in my tracks and I couldn't even want to see the movie for a long time. Said title said that the movie explored the genre as body horror, and just the thought of seeing a movie with that approach made me want to rip the skin off my face from all the discomfort and suffering it was going to cause me, so I said no, I'll see it later when I know it won't affect me that much, I'm thankful I did.
This is one of those movies that masterfully demonstrates the art of show and don't tell, because the movie by itself doesn't tell you any more than necessary, each person has to draw their own conclusions and create their own theories about what they saw on the screen, because just as there are billions of people, each person has their own experience with what they saw on the screen, and each person has their own experience with what they saw on the screen, and each person has their own experience with the genre with which they exist, each person has a different perception of what this film expresses in general, without giving us an exact description of what is happening, because no one knows for sure, the interpretations that can be given are infinite, and none will be more accurate than another.
Creo que no he llorado en ningún momento desde que vi esta película, tampoco cuando la vi, ni si quiera en este momento recordando la película por completo sintiendo la total desesperación interna que me hizo sentir muchas veces. Eso sí, he muerto mil veces por dentro, y creo que eso es peor que llorar. Ver de una manera tan simple, tan silenciosa, tan aislada, la representación de vivir en un cuerpo que sientes que no te pertenece, ver cómo con simples preguntas y comentarios las personas a tu alrededor te reprimen y no te dejan explorar tu existencia sin que te hayan encerrado antes en una caja, ver cómo incluso sabiendo que eres diferente y estas muriendo lentamente al intentar encajar en la versión de los demás que tienen de ti, es imposible cambiar y escapar. Si eso no les da miedo, qué maravilla, una parte profunda e intensa de mí les odia.
Una de las escenas que marca el iniio del final de la película es un pequeño monólogo que Owen, nuestro protagonista, hace, que nos deja muriendo lentamente sin posibilidad de detener la muerte. De ese monólogo es que sale la oración 'There is still time', 'Aún hay tiempo', y es la cosa más esperazandora que puede llegar a existir, pero de todas formas duele horriblemente, aún hay tiempo para cambiar, para ser mejores, para vivir una vida que no nos haga querer morir y caminar por este mundo experimentándolo sin ningún tipo de cadenas que nos restringan nuestra forma de vivir.
I don't think I have cried at any time since I saw this movie, not even when I saw it, not even at this moment remembering the movie completely feeling the total inner despair it made me feel many times. Mind you, I have died a thousand times inside, and I think that's worse than crying. To see in such a simple way, so quietly, so isolated, the representation of living in a body that you feel doesn't belong to you, to see how with simple questions and comments the people around you repress you and don't let you explore your existence without them having locked you in a box first, to see how even knowing that you are different and are slowly dying trying to fit into the version of others that they have of you, it is impossible to change and escape. If that doesn't scare them, how wonderful, a deep and intense part of me hates them.
One of the scenes that marks the beginning of the end of the film is a little monologue that Owen, our protagonist, does that leaves us slowly dying with no way to stop the death. It is from that monologue that the sentence 'There is still time' comes out, and it is the most hopeful thing that can ever exist, but it hurts horribly anyway, there is still time to change, to be better, to live a life that does not make us want to die and walk through this world experiencing it without any kind of chains that restrict our way of living.
Una de mis cosas favoritas de toda esta película, y que es algo que debe hacerse más, es que toda esta experiencia con el género y la expresión de género representada en la película, no está directamente catalogada como queer, trans, o no binaria, es tan solo una experiencia que cualquier persona puede llegar a tener, y es increíble. Sí, muchas personas de la comunidad lgbtqia+ encontramos esta película como increíble, y lo es, pero si la película estuviera catalogada como tal, sé que la mayoría de las personas cis hetero que la vieron, no la hubieran disfrutado como lo hicieron, o de plano ni siquiera se hubieran atrevido a verla, pues no estaba dirigida para ellos de ninguna forma, cuando en realidad no es así, pero ya sabemos como funcionan los seres humanos.
Ver esta película desde un punto de vista autista, o neurodivergente en general, también ayuda mucho, porque se ven todas las situaciones sociales en las que nos vemos desde muy temprana edad y cómo estas pueden llegar a darnos forma, y como nosotros llegamos a hacer uso del masking para que nadie a nuestro alrededor llegue a saber nuestros verdaderos sentimientos y pensamientos sobre la realidad en la que vivimos.
One of my favorite things about this whole movie, and which is something that needs to be done more, is that this whole experience with gender and gender expression depicted in the movie, is not directly categorized as queer, trans, or non-binary, it's just an experience that anyone can come to have, and it's amazing. Yes, many people in the lgbtqia+ community find this film incredible, and it is, but if the film was categorized as such, I know that most of the cis straight people who saw it, would not have enjoyed it as they did, or flat out would not even have dared to watch it, because it was not directed for them in any way, when in reality it is not, but we know how human beings work.
Seeing this film from an autistic point of view, or neurodivergent in general, also helps a lot, because you see all the social situations in which we see ourselves from a very early age and how these can come to shape us, and how we come to make use of masking so that no one around us comes to know our true feelings and thoughts about the reality in which we live.
