I finally saw Strange Way of Life and I don't know how to feel, and it always happens to me with short films, at least when I come to like them so much and they have open endings, or tell my puy little about the story that is being presented, but still, that I suffer for all that doesn't mean I love it less or that I will stop consuming this type of content, on the contrary, that something makes me suffer is one thing I love more, at least as far as content is concerned. I've told you a thousand times and I'll say it a thousand times more, I hate westerns, unless they're queer, it happened to me with The Power of the Dog, it happened to me with Strange Way of Life.
Strange Way of Life is going to introduce us to Sheriff Jake, played by Ethan Hawke, and Silva, played by Pedro Pascal, who haven't seen each other for 25 years, and that time would keep getting longer and longer, but one day Silva decides to cross the entire desert that separates them with some excuse that is quickly discarded the first moment Silva and Jake cross glances, feeling 25 years younger, who reunite to remember that youth long left behind, at least until the true reason for Silva's trip is revealed and completely changes the encounter that was greeted with love and affection in the beginning.
Al fin vi Strange Way of Life y no sé cómo sentirme, y siempre me pasa con los cortos, al menos cuando me llegan a gustar tanto y tienen finales abiertos, o cuentan mi puy poco sobre la historia que se esté presentando, pero igual, que sufra por todo eso no significa que me encante menos o que vaya a dejar de consumir este tipo de contenido, al contrario, que algo me haga sufrir es una cosa que me encanta más, al menos en cuanto a contenido se refiere. Le he dicho mil veces y lo diré mil veces más, odio los westerns, a menos que sean queers, me pasó con The Power of the Dog, me pasó con Strange Way of Life.
Strange Way of Life nos va a presentar al Sheriff Jake, interpretado por Ethan Hawke, y a Silva, interpretado por Pedro Pascal, quienes llevan 25 años sin haberse visto, y ese tiempo seguiría siendo cada vez mayor, pero un día Silva decide cruzar todo el desierto que los separa con alguna excusa que es descartada rápidamente al primer momento en que Silva y Jake cruzan miradas, sintiéndose 25 años más jóvenes, quienes se reunen para recordar esa juventud ya dejada muy atrás, al menos hasta que la verdadera razón del viaje de Silva es revelada y cambia por completo el encuentro que fue recibido con amor y cariño en un principio.

First it was with Bill and Frank, in The Last of Us, who during the third chapter gave us one of the best stories we could have asked for, and now here in this short with Silva and Jake, and I love, I don't stop loving, because while they may not be perfect stories or have a proper representation, to say the least; but the simple fact that they exist is already a lot, because it is rewriting the way in which relationships between men are represented, it is no longer just between teenagers or young men, which almost always ended or were completely a horrible trauma, which is the case of this short, I still love it, but with the story of Bill and Frank there was a perfect representation that love is found at any age, can last a long time, and that it is perfectly common and normal for men over forty or fifty to experience it as well. I love.
One of my favorite moments of the short was watching young Silva and Jake completely ignoring three women to make out with each other over drinks of wine. I can't find the word I used in my mind, but it was something, it was wonderful, it was fun, it was beautiful, but the best was not that, the best was the three women who left and left them kissing, they were happy, because the fun was just beginning, and that the two of them preferred each other, it didn't affect or bother them at all, that was perfect.
¡Vivan los viejos homosexuales dándose amor duro y salvaje! Si este hubiera sido un western común y corriente, ni siquiera porque amo a Pedro Pascal lo hubiera visto, es que somos como agua y aceite. Primero fue con Bill y Frank, en The Last of Us, que durante el tercer capítulo nos dieron una de las mejores historias que podíamos haber pedido, y ahora aquí en este corto con Silva y Jake, y amo, no dejo de amar, porque si bien no son historias perfectas o que tengan una representación adecuada, por decirlo de cierta forma; pero el simple hecho de que existan ya es mucho, porque se está reescribiendo la forma en la que se representa las relaciones entre hombres, ya no es solo entre adolescentes o hombres jóvenes, que casi siempre terminaban o eran por completo un trauma horrible, que es el caso de este corto, igual me encanta, si no que con la historia de Bill y Frank se dio una representación perfecta de que el amor se encuentra a cualquier edad, puede durar mucho tiempo, y que es perfectamente común y normal entre hombres de más de cuarenta o cincuenta años experimentarlo también. Amo.
Uno de mis moments favorites del corto fue ver a los jóvenes Silva y Jake ignorando por complete a tres mujeres para besarse entre ellos entre tragos de vino. No encuentro la palabra que usé en mi mente, pero fue algo, fue maravilloso, fue divertido, fue hermoso, pero lo mejor no fue eso, lo mejor fueron las tres mujeres que se fueron y los dejaron a ellos besándose, ellas felices, pues la diversión apenas comenzaba, y que ellos dos se prefirieran entre sí, no les afectaba ni les molestaba en absoluto, eso fue perfecto.
This is an Almodovar short, so don't expect something sane, to say the least, this story is total madness, at the end I felt like I was watching a version of Hannibal and Will, from the series Hannibal, in another universe, that is, to that level of madness and insanity it gets, but here it's not as strong as that series, of course. Jake is the town sheriff, and he has to abide by certain rules in order to continue to exist there, and having a relationship with a man is not something that is going to win him the approval of the people, so with the appearance of Silva, not to mention the conflict that is happening in town, which ends up affecting Jake and Silva, and the feelings that arise in Jake as soon as he sees him, Jake's life is going to shake and it's going to be horrible.
Silva..., I do not know how to talk about Silva, is that without apologizing to anyone, not to the world, not to Jake, he tells him straight out what he feels and what he thinks, we see it in the trailer, and in the short film is more intense, Silva tells Jake that he did not love him before or now, which is when Jake points the gun at him, that is, what more intensity can we get to want between these two living beings? That it's not healthy at all, we know, but still, it just shows the intensity of the feelings they have for each other, and the few tools they have to express and process them in less violent and harmful ways. Although, even though it's a western, where people profess their love by shooting, it's not at all uncommon for it to happen here as well.
Este es un corto de Almodóvar, así que no esperen algo cuerdo, por no decir otra cosa, esta historia es una locura total, al final sentí que estaba viendo una versión de Hannibal y Will, de la serie Hannibal, en otro universo, o sea, a ese nivel de locura e insanidad llega, pero aquí no es tan fuerte como esa serie, claro está. Jake es el sheriff del pueblo, y tiene que cumplir ciertas reglas para poder seguir existiendo ahí, y tener una relación con un hombre no es algo que le vaya a ganar la aprobación de la gente, así que con la aparición de Silva, sin mencionar el conflicto que está sucediendo en el pueblo, que termina afectando a Jake y a Silva, y los sentimientos que surgen en Jake apenas lo ve, la vida de este va a temblar y será horrible.
Silva..., no sé cómo hablar de Silva, es que sin disculparse con nadie, ni con el mundo, ni con Jake, le dice de frente lo que siente y lo que piensa, ya lo vemos en el trailer, y en el corto es más intenso, Silva le dice a Jake que él no lo amó antes ni ahora, que es cuando Jake lo apunta con la pistola, o sea, ¿qué más intensidad podemos llegar a querer entre estos dos seres vivos? Que no es para nada sano, lo sabemos, pero igual, tan solo demuestra la intensidad de los sentimientos que tienen el uno por el otro, y las pocas herramientas que tienen para expresarlos y procesarlos de formas menos violentas y dañinas. Aunque, igual es um western, ahí la gente profesa su amor disparando, no es nada raro que suceda aquí también.

Este corto se me hizo muy corto, la verdad, aunque es magnífico, ver a Hacke y a Pascal dándose amor fue hermoso, lo atesoraré por siempre en mi corazón, y como termina como termina, tengo la libertad del mundo en crear mil historias sobre su futuro en mi mente, que nadie conocerá nunca, pero que igual imaginaré. Producciones como esta me mantienen en el borde de la cordura y no dejan que pierda por completo el contacto con la realidad, la amo.
Ya estrenaron la segunda temporada de Our Flag Means Death, ¡soy feliz? Sufro, quiero y no quiero comenzar a ver la segudna temporada, voy a shorar. Chao.
