Hello friends, good vibes to all.
This week we met the nominees for the Emmy Awards, a ceremony that will take place in September and that as we know rewards the best of television. The truth is that there are no surprises and I think it has been a very good year where the quality of things has been very evident. The list is headed by Severance with 27 nominations and it could not be otherwise, its second season is spectacular. It is followed by The Penguin and The White Lotus with 24 and 23 respectively. I think there is competition, there are categories that are very clear but there are others that really can be an unknown until the night of the awards.
Looking at the list of drama series nominated we know how complicated this is going to be: Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses and The White Lotus. I think the winner here will be Severance, no matter how much quality there is, the level of Ben Stiller's series is the highest. I like that they recognized The Pitt, one of the best medical series I have seen, it is a full-fledged drama with an incredible production work. Paradise was also a pleasant surprise, I enjoyed it a lot, its plot of “mind breaker” full of intrigue is a hook that makes the viewer connect quickly with what happens in that “city”.
I'm not a big fan of comedy series and although The Bear is on that list, I think Seth Rogen's The Studio is a big winner this year. I understand it's a great series, I haven't seen it, but everything seems to indicate that it will be one of the big winners. The limited series I think it's between two: Adolescence and The Penguin. I honestly hope Batman Villain takes it, that series is as good as it gets in the world of superheroes and the performances of its two main characters are masterful and if I dare I would say that it is one of the best series of the year. With the best actor we have the same problem with the drama series, Adam Scott will be the winner although Sterling K. Brown's work in Paradise is to be highlighted. Brown's work in Paradise is to be highlighted.
The dramatic actress goes in the same line Britt Lower (Severance), if she wins another one it would be a surprise. The Emmy goes to Colin Farrell for his portrayal of the penguin even though he competes with Stephen Graham, Jamie's dad in Adolescence; as well as Cristin Milioti who plays Sofia Gigante in The Penguin. Going into supporting actors I have a conflict with that category because they included Sam Rockwell who only appears for 10 minutes in The White Lotus but not Patrick Schwarzenegger who did a great job with Saxon Ratliff. I really don't understand the criteria used here, total nonsense. But well, this category is one of the complicated ones to give a winner because everyone, except Rockwell, deserves the award.
Supporting actress in drama series is another mystery, it sounds cliché but all these women did a great job. If I had to choose between two I would go with Carrie Coon (The White Lotus) or Julianne Nicholson (Paradise). As characters and their developments in the series are very good not to mention their performances. As you noticed I don't talk much about comedy, I have seen The Bear but I understand that this year that series will have a lot of competition with The Studio. I don't think there will be a repeat of previous years where the cooking series swept the board in a big way.
At the end of the day the series that are going to be the ones to talk about for the number of awards won will be Severance, The Studio and The Pinguin. I don't see it viable for another series to surpass them. I hope The Pitt takes something, it deserves, I think, the applause of the people. The White Lotus will be somewhat resected, as well as Paradise, these two series were a bit overshadowed by the great quality of the others. We will know if they are really awarded for merit or for fan service.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well friends, that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Best regards to all of you, see you next time!
