A few days ago the second film of the huge success that was El Hoyo was released on Netflix. A Spanish film that was widely seen and which at the time I duly reviewed, where I praised its visuals and was entertaining, but negatively criticised its leftist message. This second film also suffers from that detail, but visually it is still entertaining and now has a bigger budget.
The film is set before the events of the first film, so it is really a prequel. That's why we'll see some familiar faces from the first film. Something I sensed when I saw the trailer a couple of months ago.
Back in the director's chair is Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who is also involved in the script along with the screenwriters of the first part. The lead pair this time is played by actor Hovik Keuchkerian and Milena Smit. The promotion has put a lot of emphasis on Keuchkerian, but the real protagonist is Milena. Maybe because he is a better known actor than she is. I like them both and I've seen them in other work they've done.
Hace unos días se estrenó en Netflix la segunda película del gran éxito que fue El Hoyo. Película española que fue muy vista y que en su momento hice mi debida crítica, donde alabé su apartado visual y era entretenida, pero critiqué negativamente su mensaje izquierdista. Esta segunda película también adolece de ese detalle, pero visualmente sigue siendo entretenida y ahora cuenta con un mayor presupuesto.
La película está ambientada antes de los acontecimientos de la primera película, por lo que realmente se trata de una precuela. Por eso veremos algunas caras conocidas de la primera película. Algo que intuí cuando vi el tráiler hace un par de meses.
Vuelve a la silla de director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, que también participa en el guión junto a los guionistas de la primera parte. La pareja de protagonistas esta vez está interpretada por el actor Hovik Keuchkerian y Milena Smit. La promoción ha hecho mucho hincapié en Keuchkerian, pero la verdadera protagonista es Milena. Quizá porque él es un actor más conocido que ella. Me gustan los dos y los he visto en otros trabajos que han hecho.
The art design of the platform that seems to have no end, that metallic fortress with a hole in the centre where a platform descends with food for each floor, is fascinating. This time the bigger budget is noticeable, managing to expand this sci-fi micro-universe a little more. There are no concise answers as to what the hell it is or why people voluntarily go there. Everything is subject to interpretation and creative minds will come up with their own theories. I still think it's a kind of purgatory.
There are more gore scenes, more brutality, more savagery. There comes a point when it leaves all that ideologically tinged paraphernalia behind, to exhaust itself in a maelstrom of violence and death. I found all this part very funny. I love gore and violence in films. It's a feast of savages. People pushed to the limit, with voracious hunger, with rancour, with thirst for justice, so the most natural thing of the human being is to act with force, it is part of our nature, we are like that, that we have it suppressed by the amount of norms imposed by our societies, does not make us forget our primitive insitnot.
The negative part of the film is still that the message is clearly leftist. They are products to act subliminally on people's minds. I started to check opinions on twitter and many people are saying that it is a reflection of reality, that the rich have us like this, like in the film, etc. Always putting the blame on the rich and making the revolutionaries out to be heroes. Then, the leftist message kicks in.
El diseño artístico de la plataforma que parece no tener fin, esa fortaleza metálica con un agujero en el centro por el que desciende una plataforma con comida por cada planta, es fascinante. Esta vez se nota el mayor presupuesto, consiguiendo expandir un poco más este microuniverso de ciencia ficción. No hay respuestas concisas sobre qué demonios es o por qué la gente va voluntariamente allí. Todo está sujeto a interpretación y a las mentes creativas se les ocurrirán sus propias teorías. Sigo pensando que es una especie de purgatorio.
Hay más escenas gore, más brutalidad, más salvajismo. Llega un momento en que deja atrás toda esa parafernalia de tintes ideológicos, para agotarse en una vorágine de violencia y muerte. Toda esta parte me pareció muy divertida. Me encanta el gore y la violencia en el cine. Es una fiesta de salvajes. Gente llevada al límite, con hambre voraz, con rencor, con sed de justicia, así que lo más natural del ser humano es actuar con la fuerza, forma parte de nuestra naturaleza, somos así, que la tengamos reprimida por la cantidad de normas impuestas por nuestras sociedades, no nos hace olvidar nuestro insitnot primitivo.
La parte negativa de la película sigue siendo que el mensaje es claramente izquierdista. Son productos para actuar subliminalmente en la mente de las personas. Me he puesto a mirar opiniones en twitter y mucha gente dice que es un reflejo de la realidad, que los ricos nos tienen así, como en la película, etc. Siempre echando la culpa a los ricos y poniendo a los revolucionarios como héroes. Entonces, el mensaje izquierdista entra en acción.
A regime of law enforcement. Of equality and respect for what others eat. No matter how little it is, it is what you have asked for and what you are given. You must obey the law, otherwise you will be severely punished. In El Hoyo a whole dictatorial left-wing regime is in place, led by self-styled messiahs who apply justice according to their own criteria. Everyone must obey so that nothing goes against their bosses. When the people rebel against tyranny, chaos begins. Everything will be an endless cycle. Both the creators of this franchise and the actors who love the message have red seams.
Don't tell me I'm an exaggerator on this subject. The first film was used by many leftists as an example of the ferocity of capitalism. In the end it is disgusting propaganda. I still recommend it, I just hope you are not brainwashed by the ideology behind the story.
Milena Smit has a fabulous face for this kind of character. A very particular beauty with some darkness. Although the way her character becomes the leader of the revolt seemed a bit forced to me, it should have been worked more into the script. Hovik Keuchkerian looks stunning in his character, especially with his hair shaved off and showing off his big belly. He's also much taller and burlier than Milena Smit. The connection between them is too quick and the character lacks personality details. He is portrayed very superficially and his screen time is less than one would imagine.
Entertaining second prequel film to The Hole. To enjoy its violence but not to be convinced by its asocial criticism that favours only one tendency.

Un régimen de cumplimiento de la ley. De igualdad y respeto por lo que comen los demás. No importa lo poco que sea, es lo que has pedido y lo que te dan. Debes cumplir la ley, de lo contrario serás severamente castigado. En El Hoyo se instaura todo un régimen dictatorial de izquierdas, dirigido por autodenominados mesías que aplican la justicia según sus propios criterios. Todo el mundo debe obedecer para que nada vaya en contra de sus patrones. Cuando el pueblo se rebela contra la tiranía, comienza el caos. Todo será un ciclo sin fin. Se les ven las costuras rojas tanto a los creadores de esta franquicia como a los actores amantes del mensaje.
No me digan que soy un exagerado con este tema. La primera película fue utilizada por muchos izquierdistas como ejemplo de la ferocidad del capitalismo. Al final es propaganda repugnante. Aún así la recomiendo, sólo espero que no te lave el cerebro la ideología que hay detrás de la historia.
Milena Smit tiene un rostro fabuloso para este tipo de personaje. Una belleza muy particular con algo de oscuridad. Aunque la forma en que su personaje se convierte en líder de la revuelta me pareció un poco forzada, debería haberse trabajado más en el guión. Hovik Keuchkerian está impresionante en su personaje, sobre todo con el pelo rapado y mostrando su gran barriga. Además, es mucho más alto y corpulento que Milena Smit. La conexión entre ellos es demasiado rápida y al personaje le faltan detalles de personalidad. Está retratado muy superficialmente y su tiempo en pantalla es menor de lo que cabría imaginar.
Entretenida segunda película precuela de El Hoyo. Para disfrutar de su violencia pero no para dejarse convencer por su crítica asocial que favorece una sola tendencia.
