This time I want to talk to you about a very interesting series, a few months ago I was bored on Disney+, and I came across this great series, I will tell you about: Extraordinary. It is one of those series that leave you a little surprised, imagine a world where at 18 everyone gets a superpower, (yes, it seems like the plot of My Hero Academia) Except poor Jen, who at 25 is still super normal... everyone flying, teleporting, whatever! and she, nothing, but that's where the magic of the series is, and it works, from the beginning the idea catches you, even if it is not that original... think about it a little: everyone with powers and one person not?
The series puts you in a world that mixes superheroes with a lot of comedy and a message about finding your place in the world... it's like taking Sex Education, and putting it in the crazy world of My Hero Academy, but with a British touch that gives it its special flavor... that mix, uff!, hooked me from the beginning... I found myself laughing out loud, being embarrassed, in a good way, while the series plays with what it means to be "extraordinary" when the normal thing is to have powers. The humor in Extraordinary is very good, it's interesting to see it mixed in a superhero story... at first you think "ah, another series of young people with powers", but if you give it a chance, you realize that there is much more beneath the surface... the comedy comes from the ridiculousness of mixing the fantastic with everyday life, they are not just silly jokes or punches; it has intelligent humor in the dialogues, like the coolest British comedies. I swear I was repeating phrases for days afterward, and that, to me, is a sign that you liked a series.
Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén súper bien! En esta ocasión les quiero hablar de una serie bastante interesante, hace unos meses estaba aburrido en Disney+, y me encontré con está genial serie, les hablaré de: Extraordinary. Es de esas series que te dejan un poco sorprendido, imagÃnense un mundo donde a los 18 a todo el mundo le sale un superpoder, (si, parece la trama de My Héroe Academia) Menos a la pobre Jen, que con 25 años sigue siendo super normal.. todos volando, teletransportándose, ¡lo que sea! y ella, nada, pero justo ahà está la magia de la serie, y funciona, desde el principio la idea te atrapa, aunque no sea taaan original.. piénsenlo un poco: ¿todos con poderes y una persona no?
La serie te pone en un mundo que mezcla superhéroes con mucha comedia y un mensaje de encontrar tu lugar en el mundo.. es como si agarraras Sex Education, y lo metieras en el mundo loco de My Hero Academy, pero con un toque británico que le da su saborcito especial.. esa mezcla, ¡uff!, me enganchó desde el inicio.. me encontré riéndome a carcajadas, pasando vergüenza ajena, de la buena, mientras la serie juega con eso de qué significa ser "extraordinario" cuando lo normal es tener poderes. El humor de Extraordinary es muy bueno, es interesante verlo mezcla en una historia de superhéroes.. al principio uno piensa "ah, otra serie de jóvenes con poderes", pero si le das una chance, te das cuenta de que hay mucho más debajo de la superficie.. la comedia sale de lo ridÃculo que es mezclar lo fantástico con la vida de todos los dÃas, no son solo chistes tontos o golpes; tiene un humor inteligente en los diálogos, como las comedias británicas más geniales. Les juro que me quedé repitiendo frases dÃas después, y eso, para mÃ, es señal de que una serie te gustó.
One thing I really liked was how the series plays with comedy and serious topics, like around the fourth episode or so, the plot changes a little bit and the story starts to get into deeper emotions... the series dares to talk about things like the need to fit in, the grief when you lose someone, relationships that don't work out and family dramas, I liked that it wasn't afraid to touch on those topics, even though at first it paints a super relaxed and fun world. That mix of laughter and depth makes the series work on several levels, and it's great to see that they give an original touch to a genre that always leans more towards action or exaggerated drama, but what really, really makes this series shine are its characters... let's start with Jen, the main character... she's insecure, and feels like an oddball in a world where everyone seems to have something special.
But that's exactly why, that's exactly why!, you connect with her instantly, even though she has her flaws, or maybe because of them, I found myself rooting for her in every episode... her journey to find herself and accept herself in a world that seems to be moving on without her, is something many of us can relate to. Her human, raw and sometimes clumsy side makes her a character that touches your heart, super real... then there's Carrie, Jen's best friend, whose power is to talk to the dead... her situation is a perfect mix of laughter and tragedy: her friends use her all the time to talk to those who are no longer here, without thinking about how it affects her, I loved how the series uses her character to show how heavy it can be to have a "gift", especially when others see it as a tool and not as part of who you are... and, obviously, there's Cash, Carrie's boyfriend, obsessed with putting together a "Justice League" in the neighborhood... his power is not that great, but his enthusiasm for being a hero is as ridiculous as it is adorable. He's a character that could be unbearable, easy, but the series manages to make his delusions of grandeur more funny than annoying.
Una cosa que me gustó mucho fue cómo la serie juega con la comedia y los temas serios, como por el cuarto capÃtulo, más o menos, la trama cambia un poquito y la historia empieza a meterse en emociones más profundas.. la serie se anima a hablar de cosas como la necesidad de encajar, el duelo cuando pierdes a alguien, las relaciones que no funcionan y los dramas familiares, me gustó que no le tuviera miedo a tocar esos temas, aunque al principio te pinta un mundo súper relajado y divertido. Esa mezcla de risa y profundidad hace que la serie funcione a varios niveles, y es genial ver que le dan un toque original a un género que siempre tira más para la acción o el drama exagerado, pero lo que de verdad, de verdad, hace que esta serie brille son sus personajes.. empecemos por Jen, la protagonista.. es insegura, y se siente como un bicho raro en un mundo donde todos parecen tener algo especial.
Pero justo por eso, ¡justo por eso!, es que te conectas con ella al instante, a pesar de que tiene sus fallas, o quizás gracias a ellas, me encontré apoyándola en cada episodio.. su viaje para encontrarse a sà misma y aceptarse en un mundo que parece seguir adelante sin ella, es algo con lo que muchos nos podemos identificar. Su lado humano, crudo y a veces torpe, la hace un personaje que te llega al corazón, súper real.. después está Carrie, la mejor amiga de Jen, cuyo poder es hablar con los muertos.. su situación es una mezcla perfecta de risa y tragedia: sus amigos la usan todo el tiempo para hablar con los que ya no están, sin pensar en cómo la afecta a ella, me encantó cómo la serie usa su personaje para mostrar lo pesado que puede ser tener un "don", sobre todo cuando los demás lo ven como una herramienta y no como parte de quién eres.. y, obvio, está Cash, el novio de Carrie, obsesionado con armar una "Liga de la Justicia" del barrio.. su poder no es la gran cosa, pero su entusiasmo por ser héroe es tan ridÃculo como adorable. Es un personaje que podrÃa ser insoportable, fácil, pero la serie logra que sus delirios de grandeza sean más divertidos que molestos.
I have to talk about the special effects... look, don't expect fireworks, no, but that's the joke, Extraordinary doesn't have a huge budget, and it's a good thing it doesn't... the series takes that limitation and uses it to its advantage, you know? Instead of wanting to compete with the big superhero movies, the series turns its shortcomings into pure comedy... being aware of its limitations gives it a unique touch and prevents it from getting too serious, which is greatly appreciated, but what surprised me the most was the central message of the series about accepting yourself as you are.
In a world where having superpowers is the most normal thing in the world and not having them makes you feel like a weirdo, this series reminds you that the important thing is to love yourself as you are... it's a very good message in today's world, it made me think about my own insecurities and those expectations that society puts in your head to "stand out" or be "special". In the end, the show tells you that what’s truly extraordinary isn’t what you can do, but who you are. I remember one scene in particular where Jen, once again in trouble for not having powers, reacts with a perfect mix of sarcasm and vulnerability.
In that moment, I felt a real connection to the character. It’s rare to find a protagonist in these kinds of stories that feels so authentic and so human. My expectations before watching Extraordinary were half and half, I was afraid it would be just another superhero show with forced comedy. But episode after episode, I realized it was something really special. It’s not something magnificent, but it does put a twist on the genre in a fresh and original way. By the time the deeper themes started to come to light, I was completely hooked, fully immersed in the story and loving the characters.
Tengo que hablarles de los efectos especiales.. a ver, no esperen fuegos artificiales, no, pero ahà está el chiste, justamente, Extraordinary no tiene un presupuesto gigante, y qué bueno que no lo tiene.. la serie agarra esa limitación y la usa a su favor, ¿entienden? En vez de querer competir con las pelis grandotas de superhéroes, la serie convierte sus carencias en comedia pura.. eso de ser conscientes de sus limitaciones le da un toque único y evita que se pongan demasiado serios, lo cual se agradece un montón, pero lo que más me sorprendió de todo fue el mensaje central de la serie sobre aceptarte como eres.
En un mundo donde tener superpoderes es lo más normal del mundo y no tenerlos te hace sentir un bicho raro, esta serie te recuerda que lo importante es quererte tal cual eres.. es un mensaje muy bueno en la actualidad, me puso a pensar en mis propias inseguridades y en esas expectativas que la sociedad te mete en la cabeza para "destacar" o ser "especial". Al final, la serie te dice que lo verdaderamente extraordinario no es lo que puedes hacer, sino quién eres.. me acuerdo de una escena en particular donde Jen, otra vez metida en un lÃo por no tener poderes, reacciona con una mezcla perfecta de sarcasmo y vulnerabilidad.
En ese momento, sentà una conexión real con el personaje.. es raro encontrar una protagonista en este tipo de historias que se sienta tan auténtica y tan humana.. mis expectativas antes de ver Extraordinary eran medio y medio, tenÃa miedo de que fuera otra serie más de superhéroes con comedia forzada.. pero capÃtulo tras capÃtulo, me di cuenta de que era algo realmente especial, no es algo magnÃfico, pero sà le da una vuelta de tuerca al género de una manera fresca y original.. cuando los temas más profundos empezaron a salir a la luz, ya estaba completamente enganchado, metido de lleno en la historia y amando a los personajes.
The million dollar question: do I recommend Extraordinary? Of course I do, people! If you’re looking for a relaxing comedy with a different touch, if you love British humor and you’re fed up with so many generic superheroes, but you still want something that will entertain and surprise you, this is your series… it doesn’t need giant explosions or epic fights to get you hooked, its magic is in its honesty, in its intelligent humor and in those characters that are imperfect but that touch your soul… at the end of the day, Extraordinary is not just a comedy about superpowers; is a story about finding your place, and believing in your abilities.. it reminds us that true strength is not in the powers you have, but in how you handle your insecurities and how you accept your own oddities.. I give Extraordinary an 8.5/10, it is not perfect, eh, the special effects are cheap and sometimes the story goes a bit off topic, but it makes up for it with its charm and originality.. if you ever felt like a fish out of water, Jen’s story will remind you that being different is not being less, on the contrary!, it can be what makes you truly extraordinary.. and well, that’s all for today, I hope you liked this review, I’ll see you in the next ones! La pregunta del millón: ¿recomiendo Extraordinary? Obvio que sÃ, gente! Si andas buscando una comedia relax, pero con un toque diferente, si te mata el humor británico y ya estás hasta la coronilla de tanto superhéroe genérico, pero igual quieres algo que te entretenga y te sorprenda, esta es tu serie.. no necesita explosiones gigantes ni peleas épicas para engancharte, su magia está en que es honesta, en su humor inteligente y en esos personajes que son imperfectos, pero que te llegan al alma.. al final del dÃa, Extraordinary no es solo una comedia de superpoderes; es una historia sobre encontrar tu lugar, y creer en tus habilidades.. nos recuerda que la verdadera fuerza no está en los poderes que tengas, sino en cómo te manejas con tus inseguridades y en cómo aceptas tus propias rarezas.. Le doy a Extraordinary un 8.5/10, no es perfecta, eh, los efectos especiales son baratitos y a veces la historia se va un poco por las ramas, pero lo compensa con su encanto y originalidad.. si alguna vez te sentiste como pez fuera del agua, la historia de Jen te va a recordar que ser diferente no es ser menos, ¡al contrario!, puede ser lo que te haga realmente extraordinario.. y bueno, esto es todo por hoy, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña, nos veremos en las próximas!
