Greetings wonderful people;
It’s no doubt that I’m a movie buff, I try to watch every movie I get my hands on. And unlike other people I don’t have a specific Genre. Once it’s a good movie count me in. I came across a movie titled “Emancipation” the title alone is something that got my attention. Emancipation simple means to be free or break free from someone or something.
The movie Emancipation is a true life story which was written by William N. Collage and directed by Antoine Fuqua. The story is based on a religious character named Peter (a slave) played by none other than Will Smith. who was captured from his hometown Louisiana and sent to slavery in the late 80’s.
The movie begins at peters hometown Louisiana, Peter was having a moment with his wife when the British Arm stormed in and took him. Of course he didn’t leave without a fight. But fear of what will be done to his wife Dodienne who was portrayed by Charmaine Bingwa and his two children he went willingly. He wasn’t the only one that was captured.
The slaves worked day in day out without rest, the only way you would be granted rest was when you dropped dead or fumble well if that’s the case you will shot that instance. They were made to carry heavy heavy metals for long distances and a whole lot of work. Slaves that couldn’t work or got tired were lashed, beaten and sometimes killed. The food they ate was nothing to write home about. I can tell you that the food that was given to the Dogs were much more better to the ones offered to the slaves.
At nights he would give hope to other slaves and tell them that help was coming and That God hasn’t abandoned them. Days turn to weeks and their suffering kept on increasing day by day. The only thing that kept him going was the idea of getting to see his family again.
Just when he couldn’t take it anymore, he got an idea to escape and confided it some of the slaves. By then everyone was afraid to attempt to escape because of the fear they had for Fassel. Who then was the best hunter working for the Army. On a few slaves, about five agreed to his plan. They waited for the right time and made their escape.
As soon as they did, Fassel got wind that they had escaped. So he took with him his tracking dogs along a few other good hunters to track them down. His order was clear he wanted them dead or alive. One thing Peter didn’t know was the jungle it’s self wasn’t kind because it had its own dangers. Will he survive the jungle? Or will he fall victim to Fassel? Watch the movie to find out.
My take on the movie
First off, I want to say that the caring directors have done a great job in their choice of characters. If you’ve watched it you will know that I’m talking of the actors and actresses killed it. The story line is just perfect I think. I would give rate this movie a 8.5/10 if you have watched this movie I would to know how you rate this movie and your thoughts about it.
