I've seen a whole lot of Kdrama and the closest I've ever seen a foreigner in a major role is in Squid Game where a Pakistan guy played 'Ali'. Even that wasn't a major role. He didn't get a lot of screen time and the role he got was portrayed stereotypically.
Korean scriptwriters try to give a shout to foreigners in Kdrama once in a while by fitting them into very minor/cameo roles. However, I'd never seen a Kdrama where a black guy was featured until I came across this show, Itaewon Class.
Look at that... He even got into the main poster for the show. Haha. It was ecstatic to see a black lad in a major role and Chris Lyon did an amazing job in playing his role as Tony Kim in the show. As much as I love Kim Da-mi, Park Seo-Joon and a bunch of other Korean characters I saw in the cast list, I have to admit that seeing Chris in the mix got me more excited. Haha.
From the above indication, it's already obvious that I added this Kdrama to my watchlist because of some sort of sentimental attachment to the cast. Nevertheless, as I started watching the show, it turned out to be a really good show with several dynamics and an amazing storyline.
Drama: Itaewon Class
Genre: Business, Life, Drama, Romance
Network: JTBC
Episodes: 16
Release Date: Jan 31 - March 21, 2020.
The scriptwriter and producer displayed a lot of bravery by diving into several sensitive topics which Korean culture frowns upon. Stuff like transgender, dating between people that have long age differences, racism, corruption and co. The best part of each of these sensitive topics as portrayed in the show is that they didn't just add them to tick a box. Instead, they gave the stories depth from a very interesting perspective.
The show itself is highly recommended for young lads who would like to get into the business world. Whatever the business may be, this post can give you an idea of what you need to do at the early stage of business and how to be an employer who can retain his/her employees.
There are so many sides to this show, but the part that deals with business is the best for me. Also, I believe it's needless to say that the characters did an amazing job. All of them.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma
