Una de las cosas que más me gusto, fue que la adaptación, la historia fue presentada tal cual la recordaba en la animación, sintiendo la misma emoción en cada una de sus escenas, las actuaciones de Mason Thames como Hipo y Gerard Butler (Estoico), padre e hijo transmiten su espíritu heroico y aventurero. La química entre Hipo y Astrid también es notoria, incluyendo ese elemento romántico a la historia, el diálogo es muy fresco y fluido entre los personajes, además podemos disfrutar de escenas graciosas mientras Hipo entrena a su Dragón, así como de su relación con sus compañeros de entrenamiento Patapez, Patán Mocoso, los gemelos Brutilda y Brutacio.
