Hello friends, today I want to share with you what I consider the best adaptation of one of Jane Austen's best novels, Pride and Prejudice, I like this one because even though it differs in some aspects from what I read in the novel, I think they were positive changes that helped to convey more efficiently the main idea of the story.
Hola amigos, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes lo que considero la mejor adaptación de una de las mejores novelas de Jane Austen, Orgullo y Prejuicio, me gusta esta porque a pesar de que difiere en algunos aspectos de lo que leí en la novela, creo que fueron cambios positivos que ayudaron a transmitir de forma más eficiente la idea principal de la historia.
Overview/Resumen
Almost the entire film is structured from Elizabeth's point of view, so we see her in the first scene, as we get to know her we realize that she is an irreverent young woman, with peculiar ideas for her time, because unlike what her mother and other girls of her age think, she does not want to marry just to follow the canon of society, she is cultured, methodical and critical but she is also proud and of course, prejudiced.
Casi toda la película está estructurada desde el punto de vista de Elizabeth, por lo tanto la vemos a ella en la primera escena, a medida que la conocemos nos damos cuenta de que es una joven irreverente, con ideas peculiares para su época, ya que a diferencia de lo que opina su madre y otras chicas de su edad, ella no desea casarse solo por seguir el canon de la sociedad, ella es culta, metódica y crítica pero también es orgullo y como no, prejuiciosa.
Shortly thereafter, a ball arises where the girls of the Bennet family would have the opportunity to find a suitor, and it is precisely in that place where Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy, who is very similar to her in the sense that he is torn between pride and prejudice, only that he also has a high sense of honor, virtue and justice. When he meets Lizzie (Elizabeth) he is not impressed by her beauty, unlike Bingley, his friend, who is smitten by the beauty and grace of Jane (Lizzie's older sister) but Darcy's prejudices influence his friend, as he advises him that marrying Jane would not be advisable. However, in time he himself recognizes that he has fallen in love with Lizzie but when he dares to reveal his feelings to her, regardless of his pride, he makes the mistake of letting himself be carried away by prejudice and thus ends up making her angry, to make matters worse Lady Catherine (Darcy's aunt) constantly comes between them with her scornful and hostile comments, but only when Darcy shows he really loves Lizzie, showing humility and when she also leaves aside her pride, their relationship can finally thrive.
Poco tiempo después surge un baile donde las chicas de la familia Bennet tendrían la oportunidad de hallar a un pretendiente, y es precisamente en ese lugar donde Elizabeth conoce al señor Darcy, quien es muy parecido a ella en el sentido de que se debate entre el orgullo y el prejuicio, solo que además posee un alto sentido del honor, la virtud y la justicia. Cuando él conoce a Lizzie (Elizabeth) no se impresiona por su belleza, a diferencia de Bingley, su amigo, quien queda prendado de la hermosura y gracia de Jane (la hermana mayor de Lizzie) pero los prejuicios de Darcy influencian a su amigo, ya que le aconseja que desposar a Jane no sería conveniente. Sin embargo, con el tiempo él mismo reconoce que se ha enamorado de Lizzie pero cuando se atreve a revelarle a ella sus sentimientos, prescindiendo de su orgullo, comete el error de dejarse llevar por el prejuicio y de esta forma termina haciéndola enojar, para colmo Lady Catherine (la tía de Darcy) se interpone constantemente entre ambos con sus comentarios desdeñosos y hostiles, pero solo cuando Darcy demuestra amar realmente a Lizzie, mostrándose humilde y cuando ella deja a un lado también su orgullo, la relación de ambos finalmente puede prosperar.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
I consider it the best adaptation for several reasons, the first one is for the performances, you can tell that all the actors read the book and studied their characters very well, being my favorites Mrs. Bennet, with her outrageous and frenetic attitude, Jane, with her kind and sweet personality, and of course Keira Knightley who knew how to represent Elizabeth's feelings very well, her facial gestures and the intonation of each phrase were superb, an exact reflection of Austen's character, but my favorite among all is Mr. Darcy, played by Matthew Mcfadyen, the intonation of the phrases in his dialogues, his subtle, elegant movements and even the hint of disdain in some of his gestures remind me a lot of Alan Rickman's interpretation in some of his movies, but it is precisely those elements that characterize Mr. Darcy, making him angel and demon at the same time, creating some confusion in the viewer and even on Elizabeth, because he is someone elegant and attractive but when you start a conversation with him you will end up hating him (in case you don't get carried away by appearances).
Considero que es la mejor adaptación por varias razones, la primera es por las actuaciones, se nota que todos los actores leyeron el libro y estudiaron muy bien a sus personajes, siendo mis favoritos la señora Bennet, con su actitud escandalosa y frenética, Jane, con su personalidad amable y dulce, y desde luego Keira Knightley que supo representar muy bien los sentimientos de Elizabeth, sus gestos faciales y la entonación de cada frase fueron soberbios, un reflejo exacto del personaje de Austen, pero mi favorito entre todos es El señor Darcy, interpretado por Matthew Mcfadyen, la entonación de las frases en sus diálogos, sus movimientos sutiles, elegantes y hasta el dejo de desdén en algunos de sus gestos me recuerdan mucho a la interpretación de Alan Rickman en algunas de sus películas, pero son precisamente esos elementos los que caracterizan al señor Darcy, volviéndolo ángel y demonio al mismo tiempo, creando algo de confusión en el espectador e incluso sobre Elizabeth, porque él es alguien elegante y atractivo pero cuando entablas una conversación con él terminarás odiándolo (en el caso de que no te dejes llevar por las apariencias).
One of the things that I can highlight as a possible negative element is that in this film, we do not see clearly Caroline's true feelings, the jealousy she feels every time Elizabeth is close to Darcy, but this is perhaps because the film is designed from Lizzie's point of view, and therefore we perceive as viewers the same as her, and since Caroline maintains with her a hypocritical relationship of "friendship" this is not easy to grasp.
Una de las cosas que puedo resaltar como un posible elemento negativo es que en esta película, no vemos con claridad los verdaderos sentimientos de Caroline, los celos que siente cada vez que Elizabeth está cerca de Darcy, pero esto tal vez se deba a que la película está diseñada desde el punto de vista de Lizzie, y por lo tanto percibimos como espectadores lo mismo que ella, y ya que Caroline mantiene con ella una relación hipócrita de "amistad" esto no es fácil de captar.
The costumes were beautiful and best of all is that it reflects the changes and evolution of the main characters, for example at the beginning we see Darcy dress solemnly, almost always in black, as a way to show sobriety and hermeticism, but throughout the film, although he continued wearing dark clothes, he began to incorporate other colors like blue, green or white, and the solemnity in his dress even relaxed, in my opinion this happens as a resource to denote that there was a change in his personality.
El vestuario estuvo precioso y lo mejor de todo es que en él se ven reflejados los cambios y la evolución de los personajes principales, por ejemplo al principio vemos a Darcy vestir de forma solemne, casi siempre de negro, como una forma de mostrar sobriedad y hermetismo, pero a lo largo de la película, si bien seguía llevando ropa oscuro pasó a incorporar otros colores como el azul, el verde o el blanco, y la solemnidad en su modo de vestir incluso se relajó, en mi opinión esto sucede como un recurso para denotar que había un cambio en su personalidad.
But one of the things I liked the most was that they gave special attention to the moment when Elizabeth is surprised at the first touch of Darcy's hand, the camera even takes a shot of Darcy's hand afterwards. This happens because at that time both men and women used to wear gloves and when a contact arose without them it meant that the man was pretending to the woman, this is important because it lets us see that Darcy was already showing signs of his interest in Lizzie, and although the scene of Darcy's hand flexing could confuse the viewer who perceives an apparent displeasure after the contact with Elizabeth's hand, later, as we get to know more about this character, we understand that the gesture may denote helplessness before the confusion in the feelings that she provokes in him.
Pero una de las cosas que más me gustó fue que le dieron especial atención al momento en el que Elizabeth se sorprende ante el primer contacto de la mano de Darcy, la cámara incluso hace una toma de la mano de Darcy después. Esto sucede porque en esa época tanto hombres como mujeres solían usar guantes y cuando surgía un contacto sin ellos significaba que el hombre estaba pretendiendo a la mujer, esto es importante porque nos deja ver que Darcy ya estaba dando señales de su interés por Lizzie, y aunque la escena de la flexión de la mano de Darcy podría confundir al espectador el cual percibe un aparente disgusto tras el contacto con la mano de Elizabeth, posteriormente, a medida que vamos conociendo más a este personaje, comprendemos que el gesto puede denotar impotencia ante la confusión en los sentimientos que ella le provoca.
And well friends this has been all for today, Pride and Prejudice, like all movies based on Austen's novels are not made for everyone, but if you know how to appreciate good storytelling you will enjoy it, even I (who am not exactly a fan of the romance genre) was captivated by it.
