Today I would like sharing with you my opinion about this incredible Netflix's miniserie directed by Allan Scott and starred by the actress of the moment, Anya Taylor-Joy. I really enjoyed it, it is completely worth it and you will know why below. Hope you like this little review!
Hoy me gustaría compartir con ustedes mi opinión sobre esta increíble miniserie de Netflix dirigida por Allan Scott y protagonizada por la actriz del momento, Anya Taylor-Joy. Realmente la disfruté, vale completamente la pena, ya sabrán por qué abajo. ¡Espero que les guste esta pequeña reseña!
The story is about Beth Harmon, an orphan girl who becomes a chess prodigy, and we see her way to the top while she is struggling with her past and the fact that she is a woman in a field dominated by men, something not very common in those 50's and 60's. The show is based on an 80's novel written by Walter Tevis.
La historia se trata de Beth Harmon, una niña huérfana que se convierte en prodigio de ajedrez y la acompañamos en su camino a la cima mientras lucha con su pasado y con el hecho de que es mujer en un campo dominado por hombres, algo poco común en esos años 50 y 60. La serie es basada en una novela de los 80 escrita por Walter Tevis.
You do not need to know about chess to enjoy it
No necesitas saber ajedrez para disfrutarla
I know some people (including me) who did not feel attracted to the show believing it is necessary to know a lot about chess to understand it and enjoy it, but that is fake, chess is not everything in the story, and they make it interesting in order to get attention from a diverse audience. I do not know more than basics about chess, the sport itself is boring for me, anyway I found this serie pretty good, and I also learned that the name "Queen's Gambit" is based on a real chess opening whose objective is giving space to the most important piece on the board (the queen) to take control of the game. The serie shows an unknown world for many of us, the world of chess tournaments, and even after its release last year, google searches for chess increased significantly, such an influence!
Conozco a muchas personas (incluyéndome) que no se sentían atraídas a la serie creyendo que es necesario saber mucho sobre ajedrez para entenderla y disfrutarla, pero eso es falso, el ajedrez no lo es todo en la historia, y ellos lo hacen interesante con la finalidad de ganar la atención de un público diverso. Yo no sé más que solo lo básico sobre ajedrez, el deporte en sí me parece aburrido, y de todas maneras me pareció muy buena la serie, incluso aprendí que el nombre "Gambito de Dama" es basado en una jugada de ajedrez real cuyo objetivo es darle espacio a la pieza más importante del tablero (la reina) para tomar control del mismo. La serie nos enseña un mundo desconocido para muchos, el mundo de los campeonatos de ajedrez, e incluso después de su estreno el año pasado, las búsquedas en google sobre ajedrez incrementaron significativamente, ¡cuánta influencia!

It is not the typical "I'm not like other girls" story
No es la típica historia de "no soy como las otras chicas"
The show has a feminist message, of course, being a brilliant woman chess player was not something very common at that time so Beth has to deal with this throughout the story, and I love the way all of this is represented since there are so many stories in which is like a rule to show empowered female protagonists who do not care about fashion or appearance stuff and for some reason these characters are shown as intellectually superior, because according to this logic, fashionable girls can not being smart or kind, I mean, it does not make any sense, that is not feminism, it is just a bad cliché. I like the main character development of Queen's Gambit, because when Beth becomes independent she cares about her looks and clothes, she likes hanging out in bar or parties, and this does not make her more or less smart, this is just her personality.
La serie tiene un mensaje feminista, por supuesto, ser una brillante jugadora de ajedrez no era algo muy común en esa época, así que Beth tiene que lidiar con esto a través de la historia, y amo la manera en que todo esto está representado ya que hay muchísimas otras historias en las que parece que la regla es enseñar a las protagonistas empoderadas que no se preocupan por cosas como la moda o su apariencia y por alguna razón estos personajes se muestran como intelectualmente superiores, porque según esta lógica, las chicas con sentido de la moda no pueden ser inteligentes o amables, y esto simplemente no tiene sentido, eso no es el feminismo realmente, es un simple cliché. Me gusta el desarrollo de la personaje principal de Gambito de Dama, porque cuando Beth se vuelve independiente ella se preocupa por sus looks y su ropa, le gusta pasar el rato en bares o fiestas, y esto no la hace más o menos inteligente, es algo tan simple como su personalidad.

Designed by Gabriele Binder, the costume design was meticulously chosen in order to represent correctly 50's and 60's fashion. Everything about the clothes of the main character has total sense, because Beth starts using the orphanage uniform, then when she faces the life outside, a new world for an orphan, her classmates bullied her because she did not dress in fashion, but when she starts taking control of her life and learning more about trends she can finally buy her own clothes with such an elegant taste. Something that I appreciate a lot about the plot is that there is a real development in her personality, her attraction for fashion is mentioned many times throughout the story, and it is logic that the character can afford all of those outfits because she wins well-paid competitions so she spends a lot of money in expensive clothes, and she even repeats some pieces of clothing, then all of these reasons make realistic the fact that she wears these stunning outfits.
Diseñado por Gabriele Binder, el diseño de vestuario fue escogido meticulosamente para representar correctamente la moda de los 50 y 60. Todo sobre el vestuario del personaje principal tiene sentido, porque Beth comienza usando el uniforme del orfanato, luego cuando ella se enfrenta a la vida de afuera, un mundo nuevo para una huérfana, sus compañeras le hacen bullying porque ella no vestía a la moda, pero cuando ella comienza a tomar control de su vida y aprende más sobre moda finalmente puede comprar su propia ropa con un gusto muy elegante que ella tiene. Algo que aprecio mucho sobre la trama es que hay un desarrollo real en su vestimenta, su atracción por la moda es mencionada muchas veces a lo largo de la historia, y es lógico que el personaje pueda pagar por todos estos outfits porque ella gana competencias bien pagadas, por lo tanto gasta mucho dinero en ropa costosa, incluso ella repite algunas prendas, entonces todas estas razones hacen realista el hecho de que use estos outfits tan llamativos.
Photography and colors

Colors and photography are very important in audiovisual works since this is a key fact to manipulate the feelings of the spectators, y Queen's Gambit has an admirable photography and shots composition, dark light predominates representing loneliness and tense situations, but sometimes they use soft palettes. Greens, reds and blacks are frequently combined, Beth's color is the red because of her hair. They play a lot with symmetry and squares paying tribute to the chessboard. Shots of portrait and landscapes are spectacular.
El color y la fotografía son muy importantes en las obras audiovisuales, pues es un factor clave para jugar con los sentimientos de los espectadores, y Gambito de Dama tiene una composición de tomas y fotografía admirables, la luz tenue predomina representando la soledad y las situaciones tensas, aunque a veces usan una paleta suave. Los verdes, rojos y negros son combinados frecuentemente, el color de Beth es el rojo por el color de su cabello. Juegan mucho con la simetría y los cuadrados haciendo tributo al tablero de ajedrez. Anya Taylor-Joy
The actress of the moment without any doubts, has being critically praised many times, I remember I saw her for the first time in Split, a 2016 film, but most people know her from her principal role in The Witch. I loved her despite she was young the first time I saw her, her work is incredible. She got her first Golden Globe Award this year as Best Actress in miniseries or television films for her role in Queen's Gambit. She was born in Miami but she grew-up in Argentina and then in London, so she speaks both Spanish and English perfectly.
La actriz del momento sin ninguna duda, ha recibido numerosas buenas críticas, recuerdo que la primera vez que la vi fue en la película de 2016, Fragmentado, pero la mayoría de las personas la conocen por su papel protagónico en The Witch. La amé desde la primera vez que la vi a pesar de que era joven, su actuación es impecable. Obtuvo su primer Globo de Oro este año como Mejor Actriz de serie o miniserie por su papel en Gambito de Dama. Nació en Miami pero creció en Argentina y luego en Londres, así que habla inglés y español perfectamente.

I strongly recommend Queen's Gambit, it has just 7 episodes of one hour each, I like that until the moment they closed the story in a perfect point instead of instead of forcibly lengthening it. It treats the topic of drugs and alcohol dependence prudently and the main character is perceived real. Do not miss the chance to watch it, you will not regret.
Recomiendo firmemente Gambito de Dama, tiene tan solo 7 capítulos que duran alrededor de una hora, me gusta el hecho de que hasta el momento cerraron la historia en el punto perfecto en lugar de continuar alargándola forzosamente. Trata el tema de la dependencia a las drogas y el alcohol de una manera prudente y la protagonista se percibe muy real. No se van a arrepentir, denle una oportunidad.
