Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace poco ví una película con mi hermana que estaba en nuestra watchlist de Letterboxd ya que ella conocía al actor que hace de protagonista en esta historia. Es una película poco escuchada y la verdad es que no tenía mucha idea de que trataba más que de una relación entre un profesor y su alumna, así que como me gustan las películas de drama y está es de este género me animé a verla, los invito a leer mi reseña de Blame.
Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are doing well today. I recently watched a movie with my sister that was on our Letterboxd watchlist since she knew the actor who plays the main character in this story. It is a little heard movie and the truth is that I had no idea what it was about more than a relationship between a teacher and his student, so as I like drama movies and this is of this genre I encouraged me to see it, I invite you to read my review of Blame.
La trama nos cuenta la historia de Abigail una estudiante de secundaria que fue retirada de la escuela por una situación que vivió dentro de ella y que ahora por la motivación de sus padres regresa de nuevo para retomar sus clases presenciales. Pero ella tiene un historial de ser una chica problemática o al menos así la pintan algunas alumnas que estudiaron con ella en años anteriores, sin embargo ellas no son las mejores estudiantes ni tienen el mejor comportamiento dentro y fuera de la institución, son las típicas adolescentes que buscan ser vistas de alguna manera a costa de cualquier cosa. Y ellas no harán que el regreso de Abigail sea facil mucho menos cuando se enteren de que hay un posible romance entre ella y su profesor Jeremy Woods.
The plot tells the story of Abigail, a high school student who was withdrawn from school due to a situation she experienced inside the school and who now, due to her parents' motivation, returns to take her classes again. But she has a history of being a problematic girl or at least that's how she is painted by some students who studied with her in previous years, however they are not the best students or have the best behavior inside and outside the institution, they are typical teenagers who seek to be seen somehow at the cost of anything. And they won't make Abigail's return easy, much less when they find out that there is a possible romance between her and her professor Jeremy Woods.
La historia comienza de una manera bastante común como lo harían en una película de adolescentes mostrando cómo cada uno de los estudiantes interactuan entre si y como son las clases que tienen, dónde van a conocer a su nuevo profesor Jeremy Woods quien está interesado en hacer una obra de teatro como parte de la nota final de la materia escolar. Entre los grupos está Melissa una chica sumamente problemática, poco empática, con una apariencia mayor a lo que se supone debería verse para su edad y una actitud completamente desafiante, junto a ella se la pasa otra chica más tímida llamada Sophie quien desea de alguna manera formar parte de los chicos "cool" de la escuela por lo que hace todo lo necesario y lo que Melissa quiera para poder encajar y además ser vista por Eric uno de los chicos populares de la escuela. También junto a este grupo de chicas está Ellie una joven más introvertida que intenta formar parte del grupo de Melissa pero sabe que las cosas que está chica hace no son buenas o al menos no para ella y lo que espera vivir en la secundaria.
The story begins in a fairly common way as they would in a teen movie showing how each of the students interact with each other and how are the classes they have, where they are going to meet their new teacher Jeremy Woods who is interested in doing a play as part of the final grade of the school subject. Among the groups is Melissa an extremely problematic girl, not very empathetic, with an appearance older than what is supposed to look for her age and a completely defiant attitude, next to her is another more shy girl named Sophie who wants somehow to be part of the "cool" kids of the school so she does everything necessary and whatever Melissa wants to fit in and also be seen by Eric one of the popular guys at school. Also along with this group of girls is Ellie a more introverted young girl who tries to be part of Melissa's group but knows that the things this girl does are not good or at least not for her and what she hopes to experience in high school.
El problema se enfoca en que Abigail empieza a tomar protagonismo ante la clase cuando su profesor Jeremy Woods la escoge como una de las actrices principales de la obra de teatro. Esto genera mucha rabia entre Melissa y su grupo, pero sobre todo ella porque siente que Abigail es una molestia y le impide sobresalir como siempre quiere ella lograrlo en cualquier ámbito de su vida. Obviamente al comienzo el profesor Woods no ve a Abigail más que como su estudiante, pero luego con pequeños encuentros y charlas se va interesando en ella sin llegar a sobrepasarse de la línea. Y esto es parte de toda la trama principal de la película, ver cómo Abigail intenta que Woods se fije en ella mientras que Melissa planea vengarse de ella por sentirse inferior y a la vez demostrarle quién "manda" dentro de la escuela.
The problem focuses on the fact that Abigail begins to take center stage in front of the class when her teacher Jeremy Woods chooses her as one of the main actresses in the play. This generates a lot of anger among Melissa and her group, but especially her because she feels that Abigail is a nuisance and prevents her from excelling as she always wants to achieve in any area of her life. Obviously at first Professor Woods doesn't see Abigail as anything more than his student, but then with small encounters and small talk he becomes interested in her without ever stepping over the line. And this is part of the main plot of the film, to see how Abigail tries to get Woods to notice her while Melissa plans to take revenge on her for feeling inferior and at the same time show him who "rules" in the school.
Me recuerda mucho a la película Mean Girls, donde el grupo de chicas andan liderando la escuela y escogen a la víctima que más les sea facil de usar a su favor. Solo que Abigail es mucho más que una persona extraña como todos la catalogan, ella es un poco silenciosa y nunca se mete en problemas pero aún así tiene este pasado que despierta la curiosidad del por qué dicen que ella es una psicópata. Es muy entretenida la historia mientras que vemos cómo cada uno de los personajes van enfrentando diferentes situaciones propias de la edad y de la poca madurez que se tiene cuando se es joven.
It reminds me a lot of the movie Mean Girls, where the group of girls are leading the school and they choose the victim that is easiest to use to their advantage. Only Abigail is much more than just a strange person as everyone labels her, she's a bit quiet and never gets into trouble but still has this past that makes you curious as to why they say she's a psychopath. The story is very entertaining as we see how each of the characters are facing different situations typical of age and the little maturity you have when you are young.
Realmente me encantó la participación de Chris Messina cómo Jeremy Woods, a este actor lo ví en la serie de Heridas Abiertas y fue uno de sus mejores papeles hasta ahora, realmente se siente la tensión y el tormento que genera en él el deseo de estar con Abigail siendo su alumna, es algo que sucede mucho pero que en las películas algunas veces lo romantizan demasiado, en este caso la película no llega a ese punto de unir a los dos, simplemente cada uno comprende en la situación en la que se encuentran y aceptan lo que sintieron como una atracción pero no llega a más de allí. Abigail interpretada por Quin Shephard quien además de hacer de protagonista fue la directora de la película y debutó con esta historia para mí lo hizo increíble, tanto que me pareció muy poco el tiempo de la duración de la película para una trama que generó tanta intriga y emoción cuando la vi.
I really loved the participation of Chris Messina as Jeremy Woods, I saw this actor in the series of Open Wounds and it was one of his best roles so far, you can really feel the tension and torment that generates in him the desire to be with Abigail being his student, it is something that happens a lot but sometimes in movies they romanticize it too much, in this case the film does not reach that point of uniting the two, simply each one understands the situation in which they find themselves and accept what they felt as an attraction but does not go beyond there. Abigail played by Quin Shephard who in addition to playing the lead was the director of the film and made her debut with this story for me did amazing, so much so that I found the length of the film very little time for a plot that generated so much intrigue and emotion when I saw it.
Es una historia llena de drama y que te mantiene mirándola hasta el final, lo más increíble es que no esperas que termine de la manera en la que lo hizo. Sucedió algo completamente inesperado que le dió el toque final a la historia, así dando a entender el por qué de la forma en la que actuaba uno de los personajes principales. Eso fue el toque que me dejó perturbada y a la vez hizo que me gustara mucho está historia que no es una más de adolescentes que pelean por ser los populares, sino que buscando destruir una mentira se destapó la verdad de otros y puedo decir que vale completamente la pena ver está película, hay mucho drama y tensión así que si les gustan este tipo de historias tal vez está sea una de sus próximas favoritas.
It's a story full of drama that keeps you watching until the end, the most incredible thing is that you don't expect it to end the way it did. Something completely unexpected happened that gave the final touch to the story, thus giving you to understand why one of the main characters acted the way he did. That was the touch that left me disturbed and at the same time made me really like this story that is not one more of teenagers fighting to be popular, but seeking to destroy a lie the truth of others was uncovered and I can say that this movie is completely worth watching, there is a lot of drama and tension so if you like this kind of stories maybe this will be one of your next favorites.
