With technology advancing so fast, it won't surprise me at all if this film becomes a reality, even, in the same time they present it. Like everything and, from my point of view, every advance is good, as long as it has a limit, as many things are already starting to get out of control. Ready Player One, comes with the premise of a not so dystopian future in which the world lives in a kind of matrix, a virtual reality in which you can be and do whatever you want... the limit is your imagination. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? This is exactly what is planned in the science fiction novel of the same name, brought to the screen by none other than Steven Spielberg. Of course, not in the dark way I'm presenting them, that's at the end.
Con el avance tan rápido de la tecnología, no me sorprenderá para nada que este film se haga realidad, incluso, en el mismo tiempo en que lo presentan. Como todo y, desde mi punto de vista, todo avance es bueno, siempre y cuando tenga un límite, ya que muchas cosas ya están empezando a salirse de control. Ready Player One, llega con la premisa de un futuro no tan distópico en el que el mundo vive en una especie de matrix, una realidad virtual en la que tú puedes ser y hacer lo que se te venga en gana… el límite es la imaginación. Suena familiar, ¿Cierto? Esto es justo lo que se planea en la novela de ciencia ficción homónima y que es llevada a las pantallas por nada más y nada menos que Steven Spielberg. Claro, no de la forma tan oscura con la que las estoy presentando, eso es al final.
No limits.
We are in 2045. Wade (Parzival or Zeta), is a young man living in a poor suburb who, like everyone else, is a user of the metaverse of a game called OASIS, a virtual reality game. He along with his friends: Hache, Sho and Daito, are key hunters, although there are more. The plot is presented under an impeccable animation worthy of a game of this caliber. In it you can find all kinds of avatars, planets of whatever you can think of, you can get married, buy whatever you want, in short... everything you can dream of, is in the OASIS. The game was created by James Halliday and Ogden Morrow; when Halliday died, his avatar, Anorak, left a message that paralyzed everyone: whoever finds the 3 keys, will have a golden egg that will give the player the power to be the total owner of the game along with all the millions he owns.
Sin límites.
Nos encontramos en 2045. Wade (Parzival o Zeta), es un joven que vive en un suburbio pobre que, al igual que todo el mundo, es usuario del metaverso de un juego llamado OASIS, un juego de realidad virtual. El juego fue creado por James Halliday y Ogden Morrow; al morir Halliday, su avatar, Anorak, deja un mensaje que paralizó a todos: quien encuentre las 3 llaves, tendrá un huevo de oro que le dará al jugador el poder de ser el dueño total del juego junto con todos los millones que posee.
The first to the key... the first to the egg.
Under this slogan, the Parzival team (although in reality they did not belong to any clan), went day after day in search of these keys in complicated and almost impossible missions. Thousands of players gathered punctually at the site of the first mission, hoping to pass it. These players also faced a "mega clan": The Sixers. These were players hired by the largest company in the world to find all the keys and give them to their CEO: Nolan Sorrento, a businessman who only wants to take over the OASIS to sell more advertising in the game.
El primero a la llave… el primero al huevo.
Bajo esa consigna, el team de Parzival (aunque en realidad no pertenecían a ningún clan), iban día tras día en busca de esas llaves dentro de misiones complicadas y casi imposibles. Miles de jugadores se reunían puntuales en el sitio de la primera misión, con la esperanza de pasarla. Estos jugadores también se enfrentaban a un “mega clan”: Los Sixers. Estos eran jugadores contratados por la empresa más grande del mundo para poder encontrar todas las llaves y dárselas a su CEO: Nolan Sorrento, un empresario que solo quiere apoderarse del OASIS para poder vender más publicidad dentro del juego.
A game of life or death.
Since it was a game, if an avatar was destroyed or died anywhere, nothing happened, they just lost absolutely everything they had done in the game. This drove people to madness, they could invest all their money in the game and when they died in the game, they practically lost their life in reality. Those who managed to survive this madness were found by IOI, Sorrento's company, who paid all their debts in exchange for them "working" for the company until they paid off their debt in full, which was never. Yes, super modern slavery.
Un juego de vida o muerte.
Al tratarse de un juego, si un avatar era destruido o moría en cualquier parte, no pasaba nada, solo que perdía absolutamente todo lo que había hecho dentro del juego. Esto llevaba a las personas a la locura, podían invertir todo su dinero en el juego y al morir dentro del juego, prácticamente perdían su vida en la realidad. Quienes lograban sobrevivir a esa locura, eran encontrados por IOI, la empresa de Sorrento, quien pagaba todas sus deudas a cambio de que “trabajaran” para la empresa hasta que cancelara su deuda totalmente, lo cual era nunca. Sí, esclavitud súper moderno.
Hunters hunting.
Art3mis was another well known hunter in the OASIS. She wanted the easter egg just to avenge her father, he died paying his debt in IOI. Because of the game, she meets Parzival and, together with the rest of the team, they start trying to decipher each mission to find the keys. To do so, they have to search inside Halliday's mind, and the best place for that was The Halliday Diaries, a library filled with all the life of its creator. Inside his memoirs are supposed to be the clues to the places where the keys are hidden, but it wasn't easy once all those methods were discovered. Parzival's growing fame had him under Sorrento's gaze, who obviously has his own avatar and tasks i-R0k (a very cool mercenary) to find Parzival at any cost.
Cazadores cazando.
Art3mis era otra cazadora muy reconocida dentro del OASIS. Ella quería el easter egg solo para vengar a su padre, él murió pagando su deuda en IOI. Por cosas del juego, se encuentra con Parzival y, junto al resto del team, empiezan a tratar de descifrar cada misión para hallar las llaves. Para lograrlo, tienen que buscar dentro de la mente de Halliday, y el mejor sitio para eso, era Los Diarios de Halliday, una biblioteca llena con toda la vida de su creador. Se supone que dentro de sus memorias se encuentran las pistas sobre los lugares donde se esconden las llaves, pero no era nada fácil una vez que eran descubierto todos esos métodos. La creciente fama de Parzival, lo tenía bajo la mirada de Sorrento, quien obviamente tiene su propio avatar y le encarga a i-R0k (un mercenario muy cool) encontrar a Parzival cueste lo que cueste.
The story develops very well, I do not know if it remains faithful to the novel, but it attracts the first time and makes you want to be part of that metaverse. The only negative point I would point out would be the ending, it borders on the childish and unnecessary because of the rushed nature of everything and things happen that make you wonder what happened there, where did it all come from? But that detail aside, it really is a good film; you could enjoy it and at the same time question yourself: What would you do if you were faced with this new reality? Because, after all, it's not an isolated event, it's already happening, just not on the scale of this story, but I insist, it's not a very distant future. Would we have enough capacity of conscience to face a metaverse of that caliber? Above all, because in the film we are presented with a very real world situation that is close to happening: lack of resources (food and money). Technology would be the only escape from this reality that we do not want to see. Something sincerely to think about after enjoying this film, so as I always say: "If you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have already seen it, see it again, you can't lose anything".
La historia se desarrolla muy bien, desconozco si se mantiene fiel a la novela, pero atrae a la primera y te hacer querer ser partícipe de ese metaverso. El único punto negativo que señalaría sería el final, raya en lo infantil e innecesario por lo apresurado de todo y de paso ocurren cosas que hacen que te preguntes ¿Qué pasó ahí?, ¿De dónde salió todo eso? Pero apartando ese detalle, realmente es un film bueno; podrías disfrutarlo y al mismo tiempo cuestionarte ¿Qué harías si te encuentras ante esa nueva realidad? Porque, al fin y al cabo, no es un hecho aislado, está pasando ya solo que no a la escala de esta historia, pero insisto, no es un futuro muy lejano. ¿Tendríamos la suficiente capacidad de conciencia para enfrentarnos a un metaverso de ese calibre? Sobre todo, porque en el film nos plantean una situación mundial muy real que está cerca de suceder: falta de recursos (alimentos y monetarios). La tecnología sería el único escape ante esa realidad que no queremos ver. Algo sinceramente para reflexionar después de disfrutar esta película, así que como siempre les digo: “Si no la han visto, véanla, y si ya la vieron, vuélvanla a ver, no tiene pérdida de nada”.
