Travelers, created by Brad Wright, is a science fiction TV series with a taste of time-travel.
I had just completed seeing a series on the Netflix streaming service and was then on the search for the next series to pounce on. The next series just had to be an intriguing one because I had just completed a really good one (Another Life : I'll talk about that one in another life maybe 😉😁 - soon actually).
I clicked on the first episode, Pilot, and from the iconic Netflix theme sound, duh duhmm, till the credits, I was grasped. So without further ado, shall we begin?
𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕊𝔼ℝ𝕀𝔼𝕊
Many hundreds of years into the future, the world is in chaos. The survivors find a way to send consciousness back in time into people of the 21st century using advanced space-time technology.
Travelers are the conscious minds of humans from the far future who have been sent back in time only seconds before a host candidate's death. Using a T.E.L.L. (Time, Elevation, Latitude, and Longitude), the existing consciousness is rewritten minutes before the host's historical time of death. The approaching traveler can dodge the conditions of the host's original demise if timed correctly. In the present age of near total information awareness, social media, and public data are used to investigate and select host prospects. They then have to assume their lives alongside performing missions assigned to them by a super advanced artificial intelligence called 'the Director'.
The missions they perform are in order to save humanity from a terrible future. These people are sent in teams of five, each with a specialty for the team to function. They train for many years for the particular missions they will be assigned to.
These people do not have actual names prior to traveling and taking over a host. They are assigned numbers for identification and documentation. Probably for the purpose of concealing their family tree line from the 21st century. They bear these numbers for fellow travelers' identification and mission assignment. For example, traveler 3468, you are off mission.
The Director, being a super brain, is capable of and continually analyses the changes in the future with respect to the changes in the past and assigns missions in accordance with "the Grand Plan" to save humanity from a terrible future.
The series is centered on a team of five travelers: 3468, 3569, 3326, 0115, and 3465. Taking and assuming their hosts' lives: Grant MacLaren, Marcy Warton, Philip Pearson, Trevor Holden, and Carly Shannon, respectively.
Travelers are trained thoroughly and required to follow certain protocols in order to protect the timeline, which are frequently mentioned in the series:
Protocol 1: The mission comes first.
Protocol 2: Leave the future in the past.
Protocol 3: Don't take a life; don't save a life, unless otherwise directed. Do not interfere.
Protocol 4: Do not reproduce.
Protocol 5: In the absence of direction, maintain your host's life.
Protocol 6: Do not communicate with other known travelers outside of your team unless sanctioned by the Director.
The series is played in English for almost all of the scenes. Some other languages, such as Romanian, Mandarin, and Spanish, are used in this series. And each episode has a run time of 45 minutes.
The majority of the production locations are in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, portraying American culture and politics.

Grant MacLaren (Traveler 3468)
The team's leader, who takes on the identity of a married FBI agent, His role is to coordinate the execution of the missions and maintain the morale of his team throughout the missions.
Ironically, being the team leader, 3468 was the last traveler from his team to arrive. His host, Grant MacLaren, after failing to stop Jonas Walter from going on a shooting rampage, was historically supposed to fall 45 meters down an open elevator shaft to his death. His teammates, 3465, 3326, 3569, and 0115, were awaiting his arrival at the time and location (T.E.L.L) of his death. Minutes before the recorded time of death, 3468 overwrites Grant's consciousness with his and takes Grant's identity.
3468, according to Carly Shannon (3465), with whom he had some form of entanglement before traveling, seems to exhibit a similar personality to his host, Grant, as she had met Grant before 3468's arrival. He exhibited true leadership skills throughout the series. He is very smart and makes smart decisions throughout the series.
The character is played by Eric McCormack, a Canadian-American actor. He also starred in other movies such as Will & Grace, and Perception.
Marcy Warton (Traveler 3569)
The team's medic, who takes on the identity of a mentally challenged woman, Her role is to provide the team with medical support, including complicated surgeries, prescriptions, and diagnoses. She eventually grows in intimacy with David Mailer, her host's social worker.
3569 opens the series with her being the first traveler of her team to arrive. Her host was historically supposed to die beaten up by a street gang. But at the very moment she was to die, 3569 stepped in and took over the host, and like Kung Fu, she single-handedly took the hand down. Eventually, the mental state of her host could not sustain the stable consciousness and she began to die slowly--but that was sorted out eventually. She has a very fierce personality that is so hot. She's really intelligent, independent and strong.
The character is played by MacKenzie Porter, a Canadian actress. She starred in the series Hell on Wheels as Naomi Hatch, and starred in Seattle Superstore as Chloe.
Philip Pearson (Traveler 3326)
The team's historian, who takes on the role of the team's historian, who takes on the identity of a heroin addict in college, He is more of a superhuman with the ability to memorise anything with 100% accuracy. As the incoming of a traveler distorts electrical signals, it is impossible to keep historical records that the team needs to operate. The historians are specially trained to memorise historical data required for their teams and then travel with the data in their minds. Even historical records of his teammates' times of death. Philip's life is the hardest to live with such knowledge.
3326, being the third to arrive, was as unlucky as being sent to a high school heroin addict. Philip Pearson, his host, was historically supposed to die from overdosing on heroin. But 3326 stepped in early enough to prevent the overdosing from happening, thereby preventing the death.
The character is played by Reilly Dolman, a Canadian actor.
Trevor Holden (Traveler 0115)
Trevor is the team's engineer and he actually is one of the oldest humans ever, who takes on the identity of a high school athlete—how ironic. He actually happens to be my favourite character.
The second traveler to arrive, 0115, is actually way older than all of his team mates combined. And ironically, he is given the youngest host, a 17-year-old. And with age comes a lot of experience and knowledge, so a 17-year old looks really weird giving grownup-type advice.
His host was historically supposed to be killed in a shady underground cage fight. The traveler, 0115, was able to concede the fight after the consciousness transfer. He has an obvious maturity to his personality. He is quite athletic, strong and really brave and sometimes made death-threatening decisions.
The character is played by Jared Abrahamson. He starred in Hello Destroyer, American Animals, Sweet Virginia, Seattle Superstore.
Carly Shannon (Traveler 3465)
The team's tactician, who takes the identity of a stay-at-home single mother. She is specially trained as a soldier. She provides tactical support and carries out sniper operations many times in the series.
This character had the craziest personality shift. 3465, was the fourth to arrive, before Grant (3468). Carly Shannon had a child with Jeff Conniker, an abusive police officer ex-boyfriend and an alcoholic. Carly Shannon was historically supposed to die at the hands of Jeff after letting him into her house after a night of heavy drinking. 3465 took over and, being a soldier, beat the drinks out of him, preventing Carly's death. Before consciousness transfer, Carly was never able to stand for herself, but 3465 is the opposite-a specially trained soldier with a heart of stone.
The character is played by Nesta Marlee Cooper. She is a Canadian actress best known for her appearances in Reality High and The Edge of Seventeen as Dani Barnes and Shannon, respectively.
𝕄𝕐 𝕆ℙ𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕆ℕ
I started the series with expectations of it conforming to the conventional concept of time-travel employed in some other time-related films. The concept of consciousness transfer through time grasped me from the beginning.
The series has advanced tech throughout, but it didn't look as though it was the idea of show. They were essentially technology that may or may not become actual reality as humanity advances in knowledge and applications.
The series did very well to keep out racism, sexualism, and unnecessary blood-shedding all through. It had a good direction for where the story was to go, and it did well. In the middle of all that, the series did well to hold onto good humour throughout.
The series portrayed how cause and effect should be greatly considered in our actions as humanity. How much of a single person's life of being ill-treated as a child can turn that person into one to cause so much havoc in the future. And just giving that person a chance to see better early enough can alter the timeline significantly.
I must say, the audio and visuals were really good. They employed stereo audio for most of their scenes-a door would be opening on the left of the screen, and I would only hear that door opening noise mostly from my left ear. That audio panning effort should be appreciated. And as for the visuals, it was right in the middle of dark scenes in some cases and moderately light scenes in others.
I would definitely recommend this series to anyone. It really is worth taking the time to see.

Grant MacLaren (Traveler 3468)

Empecé la serie con la expectativa de que se ajustara al concepto convencional de viaje en el tiempo empleado en otras películas relacionadas con el tiempo. El concepto de transferencia de conciencia a través del tiempo me atrapó desde el principio.
La serie tiene tecnología avanzada en todo momento, pero no parecía que fuera la idea del espectáculo. Eran esencialmente tecnología que puede o no convertirse en realidad real a medida que la humanidad avanza en conocimiento y aplicaciones.
La serie hizo muy bien en evitar el racismo, el sexualismo y el derramamiento de sangre innecesario en todo momento. Tenía una buena dirección de hacia dónde debía ir la historia, y lo hizo bien. En medio de todo eso, la serie hizo bien en aferrarse al buen humor en todo momento.
La serie retrató cómo la causa y el efecto deben ser considerados en gran medida en nuestras acciones como humanidad. Cuánto de la vida de una sola persona de ser maltratada de niña puede convertir a esa persona en una que cause tantos estragos en el futuro. Y solo darle a esa persona la oportunidad de ver mejor lo suficientemente temprano puede alterar la línea de tiempo significativamente.
Debo decir que el audio y las imágenes fueron realmente buenos. Emplearon audio estéreo para la mayoría de sus escenas: una puerta se abría a la izquierda de la pantalla y solo escuchaba el ruido de esa puerta abriéndose principalmente con mi oído izquierdo. Ese esfuerzo de panorámica de audio debe ser apreciado. Y en cuanto a las imágenes, estaba justo en medio de escenas oscuras en algunos casos y escenas moderadamente claras en otros.
Definitivamente recomendaría esta serie a cualquiera. Realmente vale la pena tomarse el tiempo para ver.
Calificaría la serie 7/10.
