El Mono (The Monkey) es una película estrenada en 2025, dirigida por Oz Perkins, que mezcla el terror y la comedia negra. Basada en un relato corto de Stephen King, la historia sigue a dos hermanos gemelos que entran en contacto con un mono de juguete que guarda una inexplicable maldición, la cual provoca que al momento de hacer funcionar el objeto, cualquier persona a su alrededor pueda morir. Tras comprobar la veracidad de esta maldición y deshacerse del Mono, reaparece 25 años, obligando a sus hermanos a volver a unirse para darle fin al caos provocado.
Desde su primera aparición, El Mono se presenta como un personaje con un gran potencial para convertirse en un personaje icónico del cine de terror, gracias a su aspecto inquietante y el aura de misterio que lo rodea. De igual forma, al más puro estilo de las historias de Stephen King, el partir de un objeto cotidiano o aparentemente inofensivo refuerza dicha aura y hace que surja una mezcla orgánica y casi siempre efectiva entre el terror y el humor.
Los personajes y muchas de las situaciones iniciales de la película parten de clichés o escenarios ya vistos en este tipo de historias, lo que puede hacerla ver predecible, aunque a partir de la segunda mitad los personajes demuestran una evolución y cambio sustancial en su carácter, demostrando como fueron afectados de diferentes formas después de entrar en contacto con el juguete.
A partir de este punto, la película abarca una gran cantidad de tramas y personajes, lo que puede hacerla sentir caótica, además de que su final puede no ser del todo convincente o claro con respecto a su idea general.

Sin ser una de las mejores películas de terror del año ni una de las mejores adaptaciones de Stephen King a la gran pantalla, El Mono es un experimento interesante al que vale la pena darle la oportunidad, gracias a su esencia ácida y disparatada, la cual a grandes rasgos te puede hacer pasar un buen rato.

The characters and many of the initial situations in the film are based on clichés or scenarios already seen in this type of story, which can make it seem predictable, although from the second half onwards the characters show substantial evolution and change in their personalities, demonstrating how they were affected in different ways after coming into contact with the toy.
From this point on, the film covers a large number of plots and characters, which can make it feel chaotic, and its ending may not be entirely convincing or clear in terms of its overall idea.

Without being one of the best horror films of the year or one of the best adaptations of Stephen King to the big screen, El Mono is an interesting experiment that is worth giving a chance, thanks to its acid and crazy essence, which, broadly speaking, can give you a good time.
