Companion is a movie I knew before hand what was it about but I think this is a movie that would do great for anyone who didn't and just pick up a random movie to watch at the cinema, good old days of getting to the wall with posters and pick one because you didn't know what to watch. Under this circumstances the AJA!! moments would be even better as you probably won't see it coming, a future that currently is not that far behind, now days there are already digital companions, some are just text others have animations and believe it or not some people falls for it to the point they create this bonding loosing their minds into it because of certain circumstances that affect them on their life.

Josh had the audacity of tapping into her programing when he takes Iris to this fancy lake house owned by this sketchy Russian guy named Sergey who is Josh's friend; Kat boy friend, they both assume the guy is a gangster because all the money and he keeps it cash since he doesn't trust banks. The thing is that Sergey doesn't know or at least I think he doesn't know Iris is a robot or how they call them "fuckbot" and starts getting handy with her during a scene on a lake, this is when chaos unfolds. Josh modify Iris aggression because it was the plan to have her kill Sergey and run off with the money but things start to go south when Josh breaks her heart, thing is that they have spend a lot together and Josh develops feelings for her too, thing is that Josh deep is a selfish mf who demands attention, this is when btch go crazy.

Jack Quaid as the second main character does a great job too playing the selfish guy who probably got a companion robot because he just cant sustain a relationship all because of how selfish he is, its just obvious that when he starts putting himself first this other person will eventually brakes up with him. The support cast does great two, friends of Josh who are also at the house, they all kinda hate on Iris but they were not all part of the initial plan, surprise surprise they all have been manipulated by Josh and Kat.

From the moment the cat is out of the bag; that's when the movie reveal who is really Irish, the movie turns very predictable, including that we already know the parameters of how Irish is program and can be control, still with this flaws I enjoy the movie a lot as it use dark humor when everything starts to go wrong for Josh and Kat, its funny how he ends up all fucked up, Iris even kills him and this is no spoiler, she says it on the very first scene. It's all like a bad joke that plays on Josh, how he thought he was so fkn smart, you would though that someone who buys this kind of high end tech, its a fkn robot, would understand very well how things work but he never did.
The ending of the movie really goes full circle bringing every theme home, those moments of control and autonomy in a way that is both satisfying and unsettling. The movie really makes you think how and when this is going to happen in the not so far future, there are already laws in place that are starting to extend their length to the point of make it illegal for trying to make an AI be aware and have "feelings", trying to really emulate a human all this because we already know how bad experiments can go, the point been its scary when you go into all the details.
During multiple scenes the movie will fool you and make you think twice if Iris is really in love with Josh or its just her programing, I guess we are not use to this kind of robots, full blown android that look, talk and might even feel human that will make you feel bad for her, its funny how one of her arms loose her synthetic flesh and skin, how different would the movie be if it shows you her metal face instead? shows how superficial we humans can be but its all part of our programing, been superficial is very important for communication there is nothing wrong about it but sometimes we are just too superficial.
