Buenos días, tardes o noches, damas y caballeros. ¿Cómo están? Yo sinceramente dentro de lo que cabe muy bien. Hoy decidí buscar ver algo, una película que de verdad me llamara la atención para quitarme ese leve desagrado que me dejó una película de zombis que ví ayer, realmente iba muy bien menos por el final, donde se inventaron un tiburón zombie, sinceramente muy chistoso, a pesar de eso, el final creo que estuvo decente, está basada en un anime así que probablemente allí esté mejor desarrollado y no se vea cringe como en el live action. Aunque de eso no es lo que les vengo a hablar, ultimamente veo que está de moda esto de narrar la vida de ciertos personajes reales que crearon cosas haciéndoles ver como héroes empoderados y la verdad es que no le desagrada la idea, sinceramente me fascinó Tetris y ya que vi que ésta película que trata sobre el creador de los Flamin' Hot iba por el mismo camino estaba decidido a verla sí o sí, quién no quiere conocer la historia de una de las botanas más ricas y casi que famosas de la historia que además revolucionó el mercado (yo lo admito, soy casi que adicto a los Cheetos Flamin' Hot), así que me decidí a conocer a su creador viendo lo que este filme tiene que contar, así que sin más dilación hablemos un poco acerca de Flamin' Hot: El sabor que cambió la historia.

Today I decided to look see something, a movie that really caught my attention to take me that slight displeasure that left me a zombie movie that I saw yesterday, really went very well less for the end, where they invented a zombie shark, really very funny, despite that, the end I think it was decent, it is based on an anime so probably there is better developed and does not look cringe like in the live action. Although that is not what I come to talk to you about, lately I see that it is fashionable to narrate the life of certain real characters who created things by making them look like empowered heroes and the truth is that the idea does not displease me, I sincerely fascinated Tetris and since I saw that this movie that is about the creator of Flamin' Hot was going the same way I was determined to see it yes or yes, who does not want to know the story of one of the richest and almost famous snacks in history that also revolutionized the market (I admit it, I am almost addicted to Flamin' Hot Cheetos), so I decided to meet its creator by seeing what this movie has to tell, so without further ado let's talk a little about Flamin' Hot: The flavor that changed history.

La trama nos pone en la piel de un joven Richard Montañez, un joven mexicano pobre y trabajador que crece en el sureste de California, a éste le hacen bullying en la escuela por ser moreno y por comer comida originaria de su país, un día ve la oportunidad de hacer un negocio dándole de probar burritos a los demás, quedando encantados, por lo que comienza a venderlos en la escuela, allí también conocerá a Judy su amor de toda la vida. Richard al querer comprar algo en una tienda, es arrestado por el simple hecho de su color de piel, creían que había robado el dinero. Al haber sido tratado como un delicuente muchos años después en eso se convierte, se dedica a traficar droga con una pandilla, hasta que Judy ahora su futura esposa le informa que está embarazada que debe dejar la vida del crimen por el bien de sus hijos. Por lo que acabará trabajando como conserje en una fábrica de Frito-Lay, donde sentirá interés por las máquinas del lugar y donde además luchará por subir de puesto. Richard ve que hay un mercado por explotar, el de los snacks picantes y luchará por hacer llegar su idea a los más altos mandos. Una simple historia de superación donde los sueños se vuelven realidad si es que trabajamos duro y de verdad luchamos por ello, solo tenemos que confiar y creer en nosotros mismos, aunque en mi opinión hay un factor importante en el que hace que Richard Montañez tenga éxito con su propuesta y es la suerte.

The plot puts us in the shoes of a young Richard Montañez, a poor Mexican worker who grows up in southeastern California. He is bullied at school for being brown and for eating food from his country. One day he sees the opportunity to make a business by giving burritos to others, they are enchanted, so he starts selling them at school. There he will also meet Judy, his love of his life. Richard, wanting to buy something in a store, is arrested for the simple fact of his skin color, they thought he had stolen the money. Having been treated as a delinquent many years later, he turns to drug trafficking with a gang, until Judy, now his future wife, tells him that she is pregnant and he must leave the life of crime for the sake of his children. So he will end up working as a janitor in a Frito-Lay factory, where he will feel interested in the machines of the place and where he will also fight to get promoted. Richard sees that there is a market to be exploited, the one of spicy snacks and he will fight to make his idea reach the highest ranks. A simple story of overcoming where dreams come true if we work hard and really fight for them, we just have to trust and believe in ourselves, although in my opinion there is an important factor that makes Richard Montañez succeed with his proposal and that is luck.

La cinta tiene diversos puntos a tratar y el más fuerte es el del racismo, posiblemente toda la trama gira alrededor de eso, durante toda la trama vemos que Richard Montañez es solamente ayudado dentro de la compañía por el único trabajador negro que allí trabaja, viéndose reflejado también el desprecio que los blancos tienen en contra de él, siendo llamado despectivamente gran cantidades de veces y siendo considerado como alguien inferior, además esto no se le aplica a él nada más, con sus hijos vemos el mismo caso, son molestados en la escuela solo por su nacionalidad y comida, buscar trabajo es hasta difícil también son vistos como estúpidos sin conocimientos o gente floja. Richard nos muestra durante el filme, que debemos estar orgullosos de nuestras raíces y que no hay mejor superpoder que estar orgullosos de quienes somos y de dónde venimos. El valor de la familia está bastante presente también, Richard nunca hubiera logrado lo que logró de no haber sido por su esposa e hijos que siempre lo estuvieron apoyando en todo momento, sin importar la adversidad o lo mal económicamente que estuvieran, Judy siempre puso toda su fé en él para que saliera adelante, ayudándole tanto así a crear la muestra de los Flamin' Hot que luego sería enviado al jefe de la compañía, siendo su fiel compañera, acción que es luego reconocida por el propio Richard, sabe que está bendecido por lo que tiene.

The tape has several points to address and the strongest is that of racism, possibly the whole plot revolves around that, throughout the plot we see that Richard Montañez is only helped within the company by the only black worker who works there, also seeing reflected the contempt that whites have against him, being called contemptuously many times and being considered as someone inferior, in addition this is not only applied to him, with his children we see the same case, they are bothered in school only for their nationality and food, looking for work is even difficult they are also seen as stupid without knowledge or lazy people. Richard shows us during the film, that we should be proud of our roots and that there is no better superpower than being proud of who we are and where we come from. The value of the family is also quite present, Richard would never have achieved what he achieved if it had not been for his wife and children who always supported him at all times, no matter how adverse or how bad they were economically, Judy always put all her faith in him to get ahead, helping him so much to create the sample of the Flamin' Hot that would later be sent to the company's boss, being his faithful companion, an action that is later recognized by Richard himself, he knows he is blessed by what he has.

La única crítica que puedo ver es cierta idealización al sueño americano, donde todos podemos ser felices y lograr lo que queramos por vivir en los Estados Unidos cuando no es así, no todo es color de rosas y no todos cumplen sus sueños, los casos como este que usualmente presenciamos en películas se basan a factores únicos con probabilidades ínfimas, solo hay que ponerse a pensar qué hubiera pasado si la secretaria de Sergio Enrico nunca hubiera puesto a Richard en contacto con él después de escuchar que era un simple conserje, solo ese evento dictaminó su suerte. Aún así, todo el resto del mensaje que intenta transmitir está bien logrado, de ahí en algún momento a otro me logró sacar alguna lagrimita. Esta película es obviamente una exageración de la realidad así como la película de Tetris, están hechas para entretener y mantener al espectador pegado del dispositivo que esté usando para ver la película, cumple con su objetivo al pie de la letra, no esperes algo profundo o complicado o una representación fiel a la realidad como un documental, eso no lo vas a encontrar acá. Si no tienes nada que ver y quieres entretenerte por una hora y media, esta es tu película, un snack fácil de digerir.

The only criticism I can see is a certain idealization of the American dream, where we can all be happy and achieve what we want by living in the United States when it is not so, not everything is rosy and not everyone fulfills their dreams, cases like this that we usually witness in movies are based on unique factors with infinitesimal probabilities, you just have to think what would have happened if Sergio Enrico's secretary had never put Richard in contact with him after hearing that he was a simple janitor, only that event dictated his fate. Even so, the rest of the message that it tries to transmit is well achieved, from there at some point it managed to make me cry. This movie is obviously an exaggeration of reality as well as the Tetris movie, they are made to entertain and keep the viewer glued to the device they are using to watch the movie, it fulfills its purpose to the letter, do not expect something deep or complicated or a faithful representation of reality as a documentary, you will not find it here. If you have nothing to do and you want to be entertained for an hour and a half, this is your movie, an easy snack to digest.
