Buenos días, buenas tardes y buenas noches, damas y caballeros. ¿Cómo están? Espero que bien. Últimamente he estado un poco desaparecido, supongo que el cansancio me ganó y que no encontraba muchas cosas que ver, así que decidí finalmente optar por el camino fácil y ver algunas de las películas más importantes del año pasado, que fueron aclamadas por la crítica, además como soy fan de la animación, nada mejor que comenzar por esa categoría, despejar un poco la mente y pasármela bien viendo algo. No es un misterio para muchos sobre qué les voy a hablar, solo hace falta leer el título, lo que me parece curioso de verdad es que Disney haya decidido tirar el trabajo de esta película, le salió rotundamente mal en todos los aspectos, la gente dice que fue por el contenido LGBT que posee el filme pero la verdad es que no es mucho y está bastante bien implementado dentro de la obra, se supone que en los últimos años la compañía del ratón quería ser inclusiva, que hayan desechado Nimona estando al 70% se me hace casi que imposible (siendo que trabaja con esos temas), creo que los motivos fueron otros pero lo importante es que Netflix salvó la película y todo el mundo fue capaz de verla, un producto de animación casi que imperdible para cualquiera, tanto para chicos como adultos, aunque un poco más para estos últimos, que entenderán el mensaje con mucha más claridad. Así que sin más dilación, hablemos de Nimona.
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, ladies and gentlemen. How are you? I hope you are well. Lately I have been a bit absent, I suppose fatigue got the best of me and I couldn't find many things to watch, so I finally decided to take the easy road and watch some of the most important movies from last year that were acclaimed by critics. Plus, since I am a fan of animation, nothing better than starting with that category, clearing my mind a bit, and enjoying watching something. It's not a mystery for many what I'm going to talk about, you just need to read the title. What I find truly curious is that Disney decided to scrap the work on this movie; it failed miserably in all aspects. People say it was because of the LGBT content in the film, but the truth is that it's not much and it's well implemented within the work. It is supposed that in recent years the mouse company wanted to be inclusive, so discarding Nimona, being 70% completed, seems almost impossible (especially since it deals with those themes). I think the reasons were different, but the important thing is that Netflix saved the movie and everyone was able to see it, an almost must-see animated product for anyone, both for kids and adults, although a bit more for the latter, who will understand the message much more clearly. So without further ado, let's talk about Nimona.

La película nos pone en la piel de Ballister, un joven plebeyo que está a punto de convertirse en caballero, en una ciudad medieval - futurista donde todos los caballeros pertenecen a un gran linaje de caballeros, Ballister es mal visto por todos los habitantes por ser un plebeyo y sus compañeros por no ser como ellos, alguien de clase alta, de la realeza. Aunque esto no supondrá ningún impedimento para Ballister quien está a punto de ser condecorado oficialmente como caballero por la reina, quién sí confía en él y ve la oportunidad en que cualquiera, sin importar clase social, pueda ser también un caballero, además de que cuenta con el apoyo de su amante Ambrosius, quien es el descendiente directo de la fundadora del linaje de los caballeros, siendo uno de los únicos que de verdad valora a Ballister por su forma de ser y no por dónde proviene. Cuando Ballister está a punto de ser condecorado todo saldrá mal cuando se le implica en un crimen que evidentemente él no cometió, todo esto ante las miradas de todo el pueblo, quedando como el villano de la historia, no quedándole de otra que abandonar todo y convertirse en un fugitivo, escondiéndose de la ley. Aún así Ballister no se rendirá, hará todos los esfuerzos necesarios para demostrar su inocencia, siendo ayudado por su no solicitada y enérgica compinche Nimona, una chica con poderes que se ve reflejada en cómo tratan a Ballister, siendo mal vista también por la sociedad por su "condición".
The movie puts us in the shoes of Ballister, a young commoner who is about to become a knight in a medieval-futuristic city where all the knights belong to a great lineage of knights. Ballister is looked down upon by all the inhabitants for being a commoner and by his peers for not being like them, someone of high class, of royalty. Although this will not be an obstacle for Ballister, who is about to be officially knighted by the queen, who trusts him and sees the opportunity for anyone, regardless of social class, to also become a knight. He also has the support of his lover Ambrosius, who is the direct descendant of the founder of the knights' lineage, one of the few who truly values Ballister for who he is and not where he comes from. When Ballister is about to be knighted, everything goes wrong when he is implicated in a crime he clearly did not commit, all this before the eyes of the entire town, becoming the villain of the story, with no choice but to leave everything behind and become a fugitive, hiding from the law. Even so, Ballister will not give up, making every effort to prove his innocence, aided by his unwelcome and spirited sidekick Nimona, a girl with powers who sees herself reflected in how Ballister is treated, also being frowned upon by society for her "condition."

Durante el transcurso de la trama se nos da un claro mensaje en contra de toda esa gente que decide juzgar a los demás sin antes conocerla, causando que las personas juzgaday se sientan mal por no dejar representar sus verdades intenciones o motivos, no dejarles ser; todo lo que esté fuera de la norma no está bien y debe ser repudiado, a veces hay que ponernos a pensar, ¿y si lo que está preestablecido está equivocado? ¿Y si todo hemos creído estar bien está en realidad mal? No hay que tenerle miedo a lo desconocido, debemos tratar con eso para en realidad dar una opinión basada en nuestras propias experiencias. Nimona y Ballister representan los grandes miedos de la población (tanto que se ve representado en sus formas de vestir, literalmente podría decirse que están vestidos como villanos, con ropa oscura y que se diferencian mucho de los demás que visten armaduras blancas con dorado), alguien que cambia de formas debe de ser un monstruo con afán de destruir, no importa sus acciones, sin importar que inclusive salve vidas y entonces también un plebeyo debe de ser alguien malo, con maldad en su corazón, contaminado, un error total que sea caballero. El viaje de Ballister por demostrar su inocencia se volverá en uno para volver ser aceptado por la sociedad, por volver a aquél lugar donde le echaron, que está corrupto de arriba a abajo, Nimona tiene sus propios propósitos también, quiere que las personas la vean con ojos de normalidad, solo quiere divertirse y pasarla bien, quiere de forma inconsciente pertenecer en ese mundo donde todos le hicieron daño pero sin que la llamen eso que tanto odia, "monstruo".
During the course of the plot, we are given a clear message against all those people who decide to judge others without first getting to know them, causing people to be judged and feel bad for not being able to represent their true intentions or motives, not being allowed to be themselves; everything that is outside the norm is not right and should be rejected, sometimes we have to think, what if what is pre-established is wrong? What if everything we have believed to be right is actually wrong? We should not be afraid of the unknown, we must deal with it to truly form an opinion based on our own experiences. Nimona and Ballister represent the great fears of the population (so much that it is reflected in their way of dressing, literally one could say they are dressed like villains, in dark clothes that set them apart from others who wear white and gold armor), someone who changes forms must be a monster with a desire to destroy, regardless of their actions, even if they save lives and likewise a commoner must be a bad person, with evil in their heart, contaminated, a total mistake to be a knight. Ballister's journey to prove his innocence will become one to be accepted again by society, to return to that place where he was cast out, which is corrupt from top to bottom. Nimona has her own purposes as well, she wants people to see her as normal, she just wants to have fun and enjoy herself, she unconsciously wants to belong in that world where everyone hurt her but without being called by that word she hates so much, "monster".

Algo que queda entre líneas es quizás el mensaje LGBT, donde quizás la relación que tiene Ambrosius con Ballister influye muchísimo más en la trama de lo que pensamos, siendo que uno de los tantos motivos por los cuales no sea bien visto Ballister en la sociedad es por su homosexualidad, incluso Nimona puede ser parte de esto, al no identificarse con un género en específico (se le pregunta lo que es y solo responde que es Nimona), puede que dando a entender que es alguien no binario, pudiendo ser esto cierto, se le añadiría un transfondo mucho más profundo a la obra digno de análisis. Referente al desarrollo de la trama, lo veo bastante acelerado pero lo impresionante es que funciona muy bien, consigue presentar a los personajes y sus problemas de una forma muy rápida para que enseguida pasemos a la acción, la combinación de los dos protagonistas es muy cómica y es perfecta por los antagónicos que son, Ballister es alguien que se rige más por las reglas y la cautela mientras que Nimona lo único que quiere es destrucción, formando un dúo más que interesante para el espectador, he de admitir que ver este último personaje en pantalla la mayoría de las veces te causará una sonrisa. Para culminar, he de decir que la animación es impecable, con esa mezcla que no sabes si lo que ves es 2D o 3D, con un montón de detalles y una ambientación increíble, sorprendente el cómo pudieron crear un lugar medieval a la par de futurista. Totalmente recomendable esta película, de principio a fin.
Something that is left between the lines is perhaps the LGBT message, where perhaps the relationship Ambrosius has with Ballister influences the plot much more than we think, given that one of the many reasons why Ballister is not well seen in society is because of his homosexuality. Even Nimona could be part of this, not identifying with a specific gender (when asked what Nimona is, she only responds that she is Nimona), possibly implying that she is non-binary. If this were true, it would add a much deeper background to the work worthy of analysis. Regarding the plot development, I find it quite accelerated but the impressive thing is that it works very well, managing to introduce the characters and their problems in a very quick way so that we immediately move on to action. The combination of the two protagonists is very comical and perfect due to how antagonistic they are. Ballister is someone who follows more rules and caution while Nimona only wants destruction, forming a duo that is more than interesting for the viewer. I must admit that seeing this latter character on screen most of the time will bring a smile to your face. To conclude, I must say that the animation is impeccable, with a blend where you can't tell if what you see is 2D or 3D, with a lot of details and an incredible setting. It's surprising how they managed to create a medieval place alongside a futuristic one. This film is totally recommendable from beginning to end.
