Buenos días, buenas tardes y buenas noches, damas y caballeros. ¿Cómo están? Espero que bien. Yo podría decirse que estoy más o menos, recientemente hace unos días mientras estaba entrenando se me fue un brazo, haciendo un ejercicio debido a un calambre que me dió durante el mismo, aún al día de hoy me duele, sabrá Dios qué sea eso pero creo que se me pasará con el tiempo así que no se preocupen (esto no justifica mo ausencia igualmente pero es que ando pendiente de un proyecto que ando creando), aunque de eso no venimos a hablar hoy, si lees el título es más que evidente cuál será el tema en cuestión, una reseña a una película. Como muchos sabrán o quizás no tanto, depende de quién me lea o no, mi nacionalidad es la venezolana y por estos días había estado rondando por ahí una película que me llamó mucho la atención debido a las varias nominaciones internacionales que tuvo, siendo también que contaba los sucesos de algo que yo viví en carne propia en mi época estudiantil, quería ver de qué forma manejaban el tema en cuestión y el por qué no llegó a ser censurada por el gobierno, la cosa es que al terminar de verla todo me quedó bastante claro. Así que una vez vista la película evidentemente quiero dar mi opinión del tema, no puedo quedarme callado con algo que ocurrió en mi país y que afectó a muchas personas tanto, aún al día de hoy me da rabia por todo lo que ocurrió, tanto que se luchó para dejar todo en la absoluta nada. Por lo tanto, sin más dilación, hablemos de Simón.
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, ladies and gentlemen. How are you? I hope you are well. I could say that I am more or less, a few days ago while I was exercising, my arm went numb due to a cramp, and it still hurts today. I don't know what that is but I believe it will pass with time, so don't worry. But that's not why we're here to talk about today. If you read the title, it's clear what the topic will be, a movie review. As many may know or perhaps not, depending on who is reading me, I am Venezuelan and there has been a movie circulating recently that caught my attention due to its international nominations and because it portrayed events from my own student days. I wanted to see how they addressed the topic and why it wasn't censored by the government. After watching it, everything became quite clear to me. So, having seen the movie, I want to share my opinion on the matter. I cannot stay silent about something that happened in my country and affected many people. It still makes me angry for everything that happened and all the efforts that were made to achieve nothing in the end. Therefore, without further delay, let's talk about Simón.

La película nos narra como su nombre indica, la historia de Simón, un chico que actualmente se encuentra en Miami, Estados Unidos pero que aún lidia con todo lo que vivió en su pasado en Venezuela durante la época de las protestas. Ahora en Estados Unidos quiere comenzar una nueva vida desde cero por lo que tomará la difícil decisión de pedir asilo político para poder quedarse en el país de forma definitiva, por lo que no tendrá posibilidad de regresar a Venezuela dejando a toda su gente atrás, causando que llegue a cuestionarse si lo que está haciendo está realmente bien o mal, viéndose agravado el asunto cuando su amigo Chucho, que está en Miami con él quiere regresarse a Venezuela porque según ahora todo está más calmado, a pesar de todo eso, Simón no tiene pensado para nada en regresar, al estar siendo ayudado por una aspirante a abogada para su solicitud de asilo está más cerca de quedarse en Estados Unidos que de volver al país donde sufrió torturas, traiciones y vió morir a gente que luchó a su lado. La película de Simón es la representación cruda de lo que le ocurría a las personas que eran atrapadas por la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana, quienes no tenían escrúpulos con sus métodos de tortura tanto psicológica como física, según ellos, tú, un simple estudiante con un escudo de cartón, eras un terrorista y ellos con bombas lacrimógenas, perdigones y tanquetas eran los buenos de la historia.
The movie tells us, as its name indicates, the story of Simón, a boy who is currently in Miami, United States but still deals with everything he experienced in his past in Venezuela during the time of protests. Now in the United States, he wants to start a new life from scratch, so he will make the difficult decision to request political asylum to be able to stay in the country permanently, therefore not having the possibility to return to Venezuela, leaving all his people behind. This causes him to question whether what he is doing is really right or wrong, with the issue intensifying when his friend Chucho, who is in Miami with him, wants to return to Venezuela because he believes that now everything is calmer. Despite this, Simón has no intention of returning, as he is being assisted by a law student for his asylum application, making it more likely for him to stay in the United States than to go back to the country where he suffered torture, betrayals, and watched people who fought alongside him die. Simón's movie is a raw representation of what happened to people who were caught by the Bolivarian National Guard, who had no scruples with their methods of torture, both psychological and physical. According to them, you, a simple student with a cardboard shield, were a terrorist, while they, with tear gas bombs, pellets, and tanks, were the heroes of the story.

Las protestas del 2014 y el 2017 fueron de las cosas más crueles que yo he experimentado en Venezuela, gente indefensa luchando contra aquellos que se suponen debían de protegernos, piedras contra armas, los guardias no querían apaciguar nada, iban era a matar, lanzando bombas lacrimógenas al pecho, disparando perdigones en los ojos y si tenían tanquetas arrollaban a las personas que solo ejercían su derecho de protestar por unas mejores condiciones de vida, aquella gente solo eran simples estudiantes con amor a su país, que querían prosperar, un buen lugar donde vivir, no cabe olvidar que en el 2017 fue cuando se vivió aquella gran crisis de desabastecimiento, no encontrabas nada para comer ni tampoco encontrabas medicamentos, apenas sobrevivimos, se comía lo que se podía y debido a eso mucha gente llegó a niveles insanos, donde se veían raquíticos, siendo yo un claro ejemplo de eso, aquella época fue dura, por eso fue que se protestó pero lo que en verdad fue apoyo, si queríamos un cambio se necesitaba a las fuerzas armadas de nuestro lado y la única forma de conseguir eso sería en una guerra de cansancio como la que ocurrió en Ucrania en el 2014 (un movimiento estudiantil que terminó tumbando el gobierno) pero la gente de la oposición nunca dictó el tan esperado llamado de quedarse en las calles a pelear, dando bocanadas de aire al gobierno para que siguiera respirando. Al final de cuentas fuimos unos tontos, de verdad nunca se quiso tumbar al gobierno y solo fuimos títeres de una oposición que técnicamente nos dejó morir porque ellos también tenían un trozo del pastel asegurado.
The protests in 2014 and 2017 were some of the cruelest things I have experienced in Venezuela, defenseless people fighting against those who were supposed to protect us, stones against weapons, the guards didn't want to calm anything, they were going to kill, launching tear gas bombs at the chest, shooting pellets in the eyes, and if they had tanks, they would run over people who were only exercising their right to protest for better living conditions. Those people were just simple students with love for their country, who wanted to thrive, a good place to live, not to forget that in 2017 was when that great scarcity crisis was experienced, you couldn't find anything to eat or medicine, we barely survived, we ate what we could and because of that many people reached unhealthy levels, where they looked emaciated, being I a clear example of that, that time was tough, so that's why they protested but in reality what was needed was support, if we wanted a change, we needed the armed forces on our side and the only way to achieve that would be in a war of attrition like the one that happened in Ukraine in 2014 (a student movement that ended up overthrowing the government) but the opposition never gave the long-awaited call to stay on the streets to fight, giving breaths of air to the government to keep breathing. In the end, we were fools, we never really wanted to overthrow the government and we were just puppets of an opposition that technically let us die because they also had a piece of the pie secured.

El hecho de que Simón no haya sido censurada es por el simple motivo de que el mensaje que transmite es desmoralizante (si la película incitara o motivara a la gente a volver a protestar, la historia sería distinta), se siente que gran parte de la población venezolana fue derrotada y obligada a emigrar a otros horizontes, ellos viendo tal acto como una victoria, no se ven en la necesidad de ocultar la película de Simón pero no por esto quiero decir que sea mala o algo por el estilo, la película es buenísima y sirve como recordatorio, de todos aquellos que lucharon alguna vez por la libertad de nuestro país, las últimas protestas de verdad, ahorita el venezolano se siente más bien abatido y vive en una especie de extraña normalidad, donde solo aceptan las cosas, critican algunas otras pero no se actúa, quedándonos en un estado de aceptación porque nadie quiere morir ni revivir aquello. La película la verdad podría decirse es que bastante sencilla pero logra golpear de forma contundente al espectador mostrando la realidad de muchos, donde no hay culpables, todos fuimos víctimas de lo mismo. Los planos que veremos en pantalla no serán del otro mundo pero lo que sí destaca son las actuaciones, a mí en particular me gustaron mucho la de Chucho y la del comandante que da un discurso que te deja los pelos de punta porque es verdad tras verdad, helado vas a quedar. Y lo que me encantó es la sorpresa que hay, ese giro de guión, muy bueno en mi opinión, de los mejores recursos y yo que me considero fanático de ellos, me tomó por sorpresa lo admito. La película la recomiendo totalmente aunque quizás no tanto a las personas sensibles o que tengan malos recuerdos de todo esto.
The fact that Simón has not been censored is due to the simple reason that the message it conveys is demoralizing (if the movie incited or motivated people to protest again, the story would be different), it is felt that a large part of the Venezuelan population was defeated and forced to emigrate to other horizons, viewing such act as a victory, they do not feel the need to hide Simón's movie but this does not mean that it is bad or anything like that, the movie is very good and serves as a reminder, of all those who once fought for the freedom of our country, the latest protests were real, right now the Venezuelan people feel rather defeated and live in a sort of strange normality, where they only accept things, criticize some others but do not act, leaving us in a state of acceptance because no one wants to die or relive that. The truth is that the movie could be said to be quite simple but it manages to hit the viewer strongly by showing the reality of many, where there are no culprits, we were all victims of the same thing. The shots we will see on screen will not be out of this world but what really stands out are the performances, especially those of Chucho and the commander who gives a speech that gives you goosebumps because it is truth after truth, you will be chilled. And what I loved is the surprise in it, that plot twist, very good in my opinion, one of the best resources and I consider myself a fan of them, it took me by surprise I admit. I totally recommend the movie although maybe not so much to sensitive people or those with bad memories of all this.
