I'm pretty sure that almost all manga and anime fans were waiting for the release of Chainsaw Man, having enjoyed the source material quite a lot, I was also looking forward to it but I just didn't like the end result at all. It turns out that the animation studio MAPPA, gave their all for this project, they pulled out all the stops, giving a big budget to the project but it just didn't work. In Japan the anime was a total failure, being overshadowed by works such as Bocchi The Rock! (the hated director of the Chainsaw Man anime) or by Spy × Family, it never managed to position itself as number one in TV views because it clearly failed to attract the attention of the new audience, which was the objective, it was only seen by those who were already fans of the original work. So much was the displeasure in Japan that they were petitioning for the anime to be remade because evidently the essence is not the same, they gave it a depth that it didn't have at the beginning. All the bad ends up being reflected in the Blu-ray sales, what it calls if an anime succeeds, were lousy, a clear disaster but.... Why did this happen?
Estoy muy seguro que casi todos los aficionados del manga y el anime estuvieron esperando el estreno de Chainsaw Man, habiendo yo disfrutado bastante el material original, también esperé con ansías a que saliera pero simplemente el resultado final no me gustó en lo absoluto. Resulta que el estudio de animación MAPPA, dió todo de sí para este proyecto, sacaron todo el arsenal que tenían, otorgando un gran presupuesto al proyecto pero sencillamente no funcionó. En Japón el anime fue un fracaso total siendo opacado con obras como Bocchi The Rock! (Odiado el director del anime de Chainsaw Man) o por Spy × Family, nunca logró posicionarse como el número uno en visualizaciones en TV porque claramente no llegó a llamar la atención del público nuevo, el cual era el objetivo, solo era visto los que ya eran fanes de la obra original. Tanto fue el desagrado en el país nipón que estuvieron haciendo peticiones para que el anime se volviera a hacer porque evidentemente la esencia no es la misma, le dieron una profundidad que en un principio no había. Todo el mal termina viéndose reflejado en las ventas de Blu-ray, lo que denomina si un anime triunfa, fueron pésimas, un claro desastre pero... ¿por qué ocurrió esto?

You know that the adaptation of Chainsaw Man starts off badly when in the first chapter you see the colour palette, trying to be as realistic as possible, moving away drastically from the original idea; you could say that it becomes a pretentious work that tries to show that it has much more than what it can actually offer, it takes during the chapters a rhythm too slow for what Chainsaw Man really is. In the end we have a product that only manga diehards can enjoy, you can never recommend this to a person who is just starting to watch anime.
Hay que entender que los animes la mayor parte del tiempo sirven en gran parte para atraer nuevos adeptos a una obra para conseguir esto el material debe ser digerible para la mayor cantidad de gente posible, cuando se hace bien tenemos productos como Jujutsu Kaisen o Kimetsu No Yaiba, las cuales no serán las mejores obras de su género pero con el impulso del medio audiovisual se supo aprovechar lo que se tenía y potenciarlo a un nuevo nivel, agradando a todos y obteniendo un anime que cualquiera puede ver debido a la excelente adaptación que tienen. Sabes que la adaptación de Chainsaw Man comienza mal cuando en el primer capítulo ves la paleta de colores, tratando de ser lo más realista posible apartándose drásticamente de la idea original; se podría decir que se vuelve una obra pretenciosa que trata de demostrar que tiene mucho más de lo que en realidad puede ofrecer, se toma durante los capítulos un ritmo demasiado lento para lo que en realidad es Chainsaw Man. Al final tenemos un producto que solo las personas acérrimas al manga pueden disfrutar, jamás le podrás recomendar esto a una persona que recién comienza a ver anime.

Anyone who knows what the Chainsaw Man manga is based on should know that the main idea is not there, it's gone. We are missing the tireless dynamism of the original material, the one that doesn't let you breathe because in every second things are happening, starting primarily with a simple concept and adding depth (without ever getting totally serious) as the plot progresses so that people adapt as the chapters go by, as well as the endless comic moments to ease the tension depending on the episodes. Thus having a work that easily because of the fast pace, in two days you would be able to finish it in two days, enjoying it to the fullest because of how entertaining it is to read. Ryuu Nakayama, director of the anime, came up with the brilliant idea of giving us a more serious atmosphere that even has the audacity of not having a soundtrack at all, only having at the viewer's disposal a beat that varies according to the moment, we have a result that tries to be more like Ergo Proxy or Serial Experiments Lain, turning an action anime into a dense and heavy work, lengthening in the process unnecessary scenes to give it that touch, losing the value of immediacy and always go to the point that the manga has, culminating in mere pretentiousness that tries to imitate the films we have here in the West.
Todo aquel que tenga conocimiento de lo que de basa el manga de Chainsaw Man debe saber que la idea principal no está allí, se desvaneció. Nos hace mucha falta el incansable dinamismo que se tiene en el material original, aquel que no te deja respirar porque en cada segundo están pasando cosas, comenzando primordialmente con un concepto simple y añadiendo profundidad (sin llegar en ningún momento a tomarse totalmente en serio) conforme avanza la trama para que la gente se adapte según van pasando los capítulos, además de los inagotables momentos cómicos para alivianar la tensión dependiendo de los episodios. Teniendo así una obra que fácilmente por el ritmo rápido, en dos días serías capaz de culminarla disfrutándola al máximo por lo entretenido que se hace de leer. A Ryuu Nakayama, director del anime se le ocurrió la brillante idea de otorgarnos una ambientación más seria que inclusive tiene la osadía de no tener banda sonora en lo absoluto, solo teniendo a la disposición del oído del espectador un beat que varía según el momento, tenemos un resultado que trata de ser más como Ergo Proxy o Serial Experiments Lain, volviendo un anime de acción en una obra densa y pesada alargando en el proceso escenas innecesarias para darle dicho toque, perdiendo el valor de inmediatez y de ir siempre al grano que posee el manga, culminando en mera pretenciosidad que trata de imitar las películas que tenemos acá en Occidente.

Perhaps you don't see the Chainsaw Man anime as a failure, but here it certainly caused a stir with every episode that came out, saturating the Crunchyroll website with each new episode, with millions of views on this side of the world. In your ignorance you must think that Crunchyroll must be helping the Japanese industry a lot, but this is not the case at all, what Crunchy or any other streaming platform pays Japanese animation companies for their works is a pittance, which is why today they still rely on Blu-rays sold in Japan. It is because of factors like these that the anime industry is making less profit every year and Chainsaw Man for MAPPA was an abysmal failure if we take into account all the budget they provided that they will most likely not recoup. The only way I see to save the anime of Chainsaw Man is a change of director in case of making a second season, where he has in mind the dynamism and absurdity of the original material, opting also for the use of a soundtrack that accompanies the work and some more vivid colours, that surely hooks the Japanese and maybe they will be interested in the work in the country of origin, which is the important thing.
Quizás tú no veas como un fracaso el anime de Chainsaw Man, acá sin dudas causó un revuelo con cada capítulo que salía, saturando la página de Crunchyroll con cada episodio nuevo, contando así con millones de visualizaciones en este lado del mundo. En tu ignorancia debes pensar que Crunchyroll debe ayudar bastante en la industria japonesa pero no es para nada el caso, lo que Crunchy o cualquier otra plataforma de streaming paga a las empresas de animación japonesas por sus obras es una miseria, por eso hoy en día se sigue dependiendo de los Blu-ray que se venden en Japón. Por factores como éstos es que la industria del anime cada año tiene menos ganancias y Chainsaw Man para MAPPA supuso un fracaso abismal si tomamos en cuenta todo el presupuesto que proporcionaron que muy probablemente no vayan a recuperar. La única forma que veo para salvar el anime de Chainsaw Man es un cambio de director en caso de hacer una segunda temporada, donde tenga en mente el dinamismo y lo absurdo del material original, optando también por la utilización de una banda sonora que acompañe la obra y unos colores más vívidos, eso seguro engancha a los japoneses y quizás se interesen por la obra en el país de origen, que es lo importante.
