As a fan of the franchise, I had high hopes for this season, especially after a disappointing second installment. While the third season is still a work in progress, with only five out of eight episodes released, I'll provide you with my preliminary review, reserving final judgment until all episodes are out on July 27th, 2023.
The Bad: Let's address the proverbial elephant in the room first. Season 2 left many viewers, including myself, disheartened, and unfortunately, some of those issues persist in Season 3. One of the main criticisms lies in the story's lack of progression and overall excitement. So far, it feels like the plot is dragging its feet, leaving us wanting more substantial developments.
Moreover, the characterizations, apart from Geralt, continue to be off-kilter and peculiar. Their actions and motivations often leave me scratching my head, unable to connect with them on a deeper level. This lack of consistency hampers the immersive experience that fans of the source material crave.
The CGI work in this season also falls short of expectations. While it's not outright terrible, it fails to impress consistently, leaving some sequences feeling underwhelming and disconnected from the narrative. The political aspects of the show, in particular, suffer from poor writing, often rendering the dynamics incoherent and implausible.
The script, too, leaves much to be desired. **Dialogue can be cringe-worthy at times, feeling forced and unnatural. **It seems as though the writers struggled to capture the essence of the characters, resulting in exchanges that lack depth and authenticity. It's reminiscent of a ChatGPT-generated conversation, which detracts from the overall quality.
Another disappointment lies in the abundance of characters with limited personality traits. Everyone seems to blend together, lacking distinct identities that could have enriched the story. Moreover, the performances of the actors portraying Ciri and Yennefer, unfortunately, fall short, failing to capture the essence and complexity of their respective characters.
The Good: Despite its flaws, "The Witcher" Season 3 does have some redeeming qualities that offer glimmers of hope for the future. Firstly, the sword fight scenes are undeniably impressive. The choreography and execution of these action sequences are a true highlight, bringing an authentic sense of excitement and thrill to the screen.
**Henry Cavill's portrayal of Geralt remains one of the show's strongest assets. **Once again, Cavill excels in bringing the stoic yet tormented Witcher to life, capturing the essence of the character with great skill and dedication.
Jaskier, the charismatic bard, continues to be a fan-favorite, injecting much-needed humor and levity into the series. His witty one-liners and playful banter provide welcome moments of relief amidst the darker aspects of the story.
Additionally, Yarpen Zigrin, a character reintroduced in Season 3 (he was absent in season 2, as far as I remember), is a standout. His portrayal adds depth and complexity to the world of "The Witcher," leaving us hungry for more scenes featuring this intriguing character.
While the production quality may not be flawless, it still manages to deliver an acceptable level of visual appeal. The attention to detail in the scenery and set designs deserves praise, as they successfully create an immersive world that fans of the franchise can appreciate.

In conclusion, "The Witcher" Season 3 is a mixed bag. It falls short of reaching its full potential due to a lackluster story, inconsistent characterizations, mediocre CGI, and a flawed script. However, it boasts impressive sword fight scenes, Henry Cavill's outstanding performance and the lovable Jaskier.
