I always wanted to recommend my favorite TV series to someone, even some random stranger passing by on the street. Not just because they are my favorite series, but because I really think that those 5 deserve to be seen by everyone!
Each one of those shows have a deep story line, that keeps you euphoric and makes you empathize with the main characters.
The first place without a doubt goes to Ozark! When COVID-19 started I instantly thought that it's time to watch a new TV show, I found exactly what I was looking for.
The plot tells about what happens when a normal person contacts the mafia, wanting to earn a lot of money. The mafia has long hands, and it may happen that your business partner decides to rob the drug cartel, and you will have to take the rap for everything.
Marty Bird doesn't brew meth. But he launders money. And he understands perfectly well that he is engaged in illegal deeds. At the same time, he is sure that he will not get caught, because he is the smartest.
And yet, the retribution for naivety comes - he has to flee with his family to the Lake of the Ozarks in order to launder the first eight million there. They will be followed by more and more huge money - and so on to infinity. To save his life, he promised to launder as many as five hundred million in three years. Knowing very well that this is impossible.
In the course of the series, you ask yourself the question - who is Marty Bird, a villain or a victim?! A victim of his own greed, perhaps.
But he is definitely endearing. Moreover, he is a brilliant financier. And to watch how he buys up various enterprises, sometimes resorting to illegal methods, is very entertaining.
The second place goes for the legendary show called Prison Break, my father was the one who introduced me to it, a true series geek.
All the best that could be filmed about the struggle of an innocent person with the System, about prison life and a cunning plan to escape from an isolated, impregnable place, insane drive, subtle psychologism, intensity of passions, brotherly love, friendship and devotion - all this was embodied in the best series of the last decades - Prison Break.
The younger brother turns his whole prosperous life upside down, which, as it turns out later, he owes entirely to his brother. After all, there was no part of the insurance for the life of the deceased mother, on which he received an education and built his yellow brick road to the American dream. It was his older brother who borrowed money from the bad guys and had to run afoul of the law to work it off... The protagonist's intellect, developed by a quality education and fueled by a little potential psychiatry, is simply amazing and delightful.
At first I doubted whether it was possible to stretch the jailbreak for such a large number of episodes. But after watching it, my skepticism vanished. There is not a single unnecessary scene or dialogue in the film. Everything is in place.
On the third place we have Breaking Bad, a no less important TV show in terms of popularity.
Masterpiece cinema - powerful, uncompromising, masculine, smart.
The most pressing topics are raised, here you have the crisis of the life of a fifty-year-old intellectual, modern escapism and drug addiction, the problem of self-identification, cancer, husband-wife relations, father-son, parents-children, children-parents.
Questions of good and evil, finally. Talk about how everyone affects everything, about how everything in life is connected, how life is made and changes every hour, every minute. About how easy it is to blow everything and flush this life - your only life - down the toilet.
Throughout the film, we observe the road to hell, paved with good intentions, along which our heroes wander. It is painful to watch, but it's impossible to tear yourself away.
Fourth winner in our list goes to a TV show called Dexter, the most adequate view of society through the eyes of a maniac.
What does life mean to you? What meaning do you attach to this word? For Dexter, it's a ritual. We brush our teeth, eat, go to work, celebrate a birthday every year, rest, sleep. For us, this is so ordinary that we do not attach importance to it. Dexter, not like us. His otherness, misunderstanding of our emotions, makes him carefully analyze every little thing in life, trying to understand its rules.
"I see that people always need relationships: friendship or love. But these connections always lead to unpleasant complications: obligations, the need to share, a request for a ride to the airport.."
During office hours, Dexter Morgan is a Miami police forensic pathologist who specializes in blood, a real genius in his field, able to splash red liquid on surfaces to determine the murder weapon, the height of the killer, and even estimate the circumstances of death. His hobby is very unusual: he is a serial killer. No, don't think that Dexter is no different from those whom his colleagues help to catch. He is, as it were, at the top of the food chain, since those who managed to escape criminal punishment for serious crimes get under the knife. The protagonist approaches his occupation no less scrupulously than his work: it is necessary not only to find irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of the suspect, but also to prepare a place for trial and sentencing so as not to go to jail. It was this basic rule of the code that his adoptive police father taught him when he discovered his son's specific inclinations..
Even in the first episodes, it becomes clear to the viewer that Dexter is not a simple maniac. He has his own special principles and limitations, thanks to which he can control his behavior and direct his activities 'in a good direction'. Of course, one can argue with the justice of Dexter's retribution, but still one cannot fail to recognize the share of sense in this. Dexter is doing his civic duty in his own way.
Last but not least goes to a TV show called Lost and no, it's not on the last place because of its name haha.
Lost is a cult series of the 2000s, when the “golden era” of the 2010s had not yet arrived, when the creators of the series were just trying their hand, probing the soil, so to speak. And accidentally created a masterpiece.
Of course, not without stunningly realistic acting. You believe what happens in Lost. This is a very high-quality series, with a complete immersion in the color of an exotic island with palm trees, jungles and paranormal phenomena.
Each episode piece by piece reveals the truth of what is really happening on this island.
That's it guys, I really hope you're going to watch at least 1 of these series! If you show enough support I'll write another post about my 5 favorite movies.
Thanks for attention!
