A few weeks ago, I wrote an article about the series named Stay Close on Netflix. This is a Netflix original production based on the book written by Harlan Coben. It was after watching this and doing some research, that I discovered that Harlan Coben has a contract with Netflix meaning that more than 10 of his novels will turn into limited series on Netflix.
And as I did enjoy watching Stay Close on Netflix, I decided to watch other limited series on Netflix based on the different books by Harlan Coben. And yes, that is how I ended up watching the series Gone For Good.
What is Gone for Good about?
We meet a boy who is working with youth in trouble (helping them find shelter, recover from abuse and more). But, this boy also experienced seeing a girl get murdered 10 years earlier, and his brother disappeared at the same time.
Now, ten years later, his girlfriend (soon to be wife) also disappears. This takes him on some big adventures that will lead him to make discoveries about his past (and present) that he never could have imagined.
That is the story in a very, very, tiny version.
To be honest... this will be a quite short review because even though I was curious till the end to find out how all the leads were connected, I was still quite bored throughout the story. This never managed to become tense or especially exciting, so I just kept on streaming, simply because I wanted to watch it till the end. I guess it says a lot when I tell you that my wife watched every single episode, but with only 25 minutes left of it all (when you get the big revelations), she rather left the room in order to do something else.
In other words, this was a disappointing experience that I don't really recommend to anyone. Does that mean that I have forgotten about Harlan Coben for now? Not at all. In fact, as I am writing this, I have already seen the first five episodes of another Harlan Coben series on Netflix, The Stranger. And it shouldn't be a secret that I as of now like it way more than Gone for Good.
Final words about Gone For Good
I don't really recommend this to anyone. It might work out, and luckily, it is a limited series with only five episodes, but still - it is boring! So, I'd rather watch Stay Close or The Stranger (at least based on my current knowledge after five episodes).
Have you seen Gone for Good? How did you like it? What are your thoughts?
