All in all, it's decent considering the kind of adaptations we're used to, and judging from the ending of this movie, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that if it works at the box office, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade, Jax and company will. As long as it's half as fun, gross, and entertaining, that's enough for me. I recommend it even though it is obviously lacking, but if you like the franchise or are curious, go ahead.

Para esto, los guionistas Greg Russo y Dave Callaham, junto al director Simon McQuoid optaron por deshacerse de cualquier pizca de solemnidad, gravedades impostadas y excesos de exposición, que la hay, y no es precisamente sutil, pero está en su justa medida, todo para ofrecer una historia contada a mucha velocidad y lo que yo podría denominar como entretenimiento puro.
A pesar de sus inestables cimientos que contaban con una gran cantidad de clichés de este tipo de historias, el conjunto funciona a las mil maravillas dentro del tono desacomplejado de la cinta. A un título como 'Mortal Kombat', al menos en mi caso, no creo que se le busque una trama madura, impecable ni mucho menos una estructura sólida, sino a disfrutar de la esencia de la saga sin necesidad de dejarnos los dedos aporreando los botones de un control, y sí que lo hicieron bien en ese sentido.
Con esto no quiero decir que esta película sea solo para el público fanático de la franquicia, para nada, más allá de los guiños creo que igual una persona promedio que no es fan puede verla sin problemas, pero que aun así tienes que tener en cuenta que sí que tiene guiños a la franquicia, como repertorios de movimientos y fatalities a las rivalidades de turno, pasando por escenarios reconocibles y por un diseño de personajes en el que destacan Sub Zero y Scorpion; interpretados por unos Joe Taslim y Hiroyuki Sanada impecables que invitan a soñar con una precuela centrada únicamente en ellos.
Todo esto fue traducido a la gran pantalla con una escenas que, salvo algunos excesos en los efectos, sabe lucirse. El notable trabajo del director de fotografía Germain McMicking, combinado con el trabajo de cámara y puesta en escena de McQuoid, es sorprendente teniendo en cuenta que estamos hablando de un debut, y lo vemos traducido en unas escenas emocionantes, espectaculares y visceras.
En definitiva es decente teniendo en cuenta el tipo de adaptaciones al que estamos acostumbrados, y a juzgar por el final de esta película no sería descabellado pensar que si funciona en taquilla, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade, Jax y compañía vuelvan en una segunda entrega. Con que sea la mitad de divertida, bruta y entretenida, a mí me basta. Yo la recomiendo a pesar de que evidentemente tiene carencias, pero si te gusta la franquicia o te da curiosidad, adelante.
