And although it was bullying, it was very easy to determine that there were reasons such as a Sensei who was corrupting his mentality.

In the final tournament despite the rivalry and the defeat, Johnny gives Daniel the trophy acknowledging that he won cleanly, this suggests that Johnny had honor, honor that was not taught by his Sensei, but the true sportsmanship of him was already noticeable.
