There are movie or series themes that I absolutely love; if they feature actors of Bryan Cranston's caliber, I can't help but get hooked right away. Since Breaking Bad, I've greatly admired his work. I just finished a series in which his lead role is far from Walter White, our chemistry teacher who decides to start making methamphetamines to support his family because he thinks he's going to die of an illness. Now, as Michael Desiato, an honorable and respectable judge who, out of love for his family, his son Adam Desiato will also cross moral lines and be pushed to the limit.
Hay temas de películas o series a las que les voy sin dudar, si en su factura tienen a actores de la talla de Bryan Cranston, es inevitable no engancharme de inmediato. Desde Breaking Bad he admirado mucho su trabajo. Acabo de terminar una serie en la que su papel protagónico dista mucho de Walter White, nuestro profesor de química que decide ponerse a fabricar metanfetaminas para garantizar la economía de su familia ya que piensa que va a morir de una enfermedad. Ahora, como Michael Desiato un honorable y respetable Juez, que por el amor por su familia, su hijo Adam Desiato también cruzará líneas morales y lo llevarán al límite.
Set in New Orleans, teenager Adam was driving a car and hit and killed another teenager riding a motorcycle. Unsure how to react, he fled the scene. When he turned to his father, Judge Michael Desiato, the latter decided to take him to the police to face responsibility. The judge is a man of principles. However, upon arriving, he realized he had killed the son of Jimmy Baxter, a wealthy and dangerous mobster who would not hesitate to exact revenge in the cruelest possible way.
So, to protect his son, Judge Michael Desiato manipulates the scene, creates alibis, and manipulates other people and connections within the legal system. He will do the unthinkable to protect his son. But this web of lies will escalate and complicate the judge's entire life.
Se desarrolla en Nueva Orleans, el adolescente Adam conducía un auto y atropella y mata a otro adolescente que manejaba una moto, al no saber como reaccionar ante esta situación se fuga de la escena del crimen. Al acudir a su padre, el Juez Michael Desiato, éste decide llevarlo a la policía para que asuma su responsabilidad, ya que el juez es un hombre de principios, pero al llegar se da cuenta que mató al hijo de Jimmy Baxter un adinerado y peligroso mafioso, que no dudará en vengarse de la forma más cruel.
Entonces, para proteger a su hijo el Juez Michael Desiato manipulará la escena, creará coartadas, también manipulará a otras personas y conexiones que tiene dentro del sistema legal, hará hasta lo impensable para cuidar y proteger a su hijo. Pero todo esta red de mentiras irá escalando y complicará toda la vida del Juez.
I watched this series this week, with two seasons of 10 episodes each. I don't know why I'd never seen anything from it before. As I mentioned, it ran from 2020 to 2023, so this series, with its two seasons, took place after the success of Breaking Bad, and I expected nothing less than to maintain that level. However, I think Bryan Cranston's masterful performance is what really kept the expectation that it would improve with each episode alive, but this didn't happen (in my opinion).
Esta serie con dos temporadas de 10 capítulos cada una, la vi esta semana, no se por qué nunca había visto nada de ella, como les mencioné fue del 2020 al 2023, de manera que esta serie con sus dos temporadas tuvieron lugar luego del éxito de Breaking Bad, y yo no esperaba menos que mantener tal nivel. Sin embargo, creo que la actuación magistral de Bryan Cranston es lo que realmente mantuvo la expectativa de que mejorara con cada capítulo, pero esto no llegó (en mi opinión).
The premise of the story is really good, and in the first season, Judge Desiato was shown to be a very intelligent person, making decisions with his own hands, showing off his extensive knowledge of the judicial system, and managing to achieve results to divert attention from his son.
But I feel the plot was very restrained, lacking a climax or as much tension as shows like OZARK or Breaking Bad. I think Judge Michael Desiato's character made the moral decision to cover up for his son after the hit-and-run, and he did this in the first few episodes. This character doesn't make any stronger decisions throughout the rest of the series; he basically reacts to events beyond his control, meaning his "character arc" doesn't strengthen.
La premisa de la historia es realmente buena, y el Juez en la primera temporada se mostró como una persona muy inteligente, tomando decisiones a pulso, haciendo gala de sus altos conocimientos del sistema judicial y logrando alcanzar resultados para desviar la atención de su hijo.
Pero siento que la trama estuvo muy contenida, no llegaba a tener clímax y tanta tensión, como si lo lograron series como OZARK o la mismísima Breaking Bad. Pienso que el personaje del Juez Michael Desiato tomó la decisión moral de encubrir a su hijo después del atropello y fuga, y esto lo hizo en los primeros capítulos, este personaje no toma decisiones mas fuertes durante el resto de la serie, básicamente es reaccionar y reaccionar a los eventos que escapan de su control, es decir que no se hace más fuerte su "arco de personaje".
On the contrary, our protagonist, Judge, grows weaker with each episode, and I don't think this favors or strengthens the series. In Breaking Bad, Walter White grows into Heisenberg; in Ozark, Marty Byrde also grows stronger, more controlling, seeking to modify events, not just react.
On the other hand, I don't feel that the villain or villains in Your Honor lived up to what they were portrayed as. The Baxter mafia, the Conti gang, or the African-American criminal gang "Desire" didn't come across as strong as their references. They seemed like families with issues between them, but not the antagonists the series needed.

Despite everything, I think if the series had stopped at the first season, it would have left me with a better taste in my mouth, since the second season, although it perhaps had one or two points to develop, failed to do so, and for this reason, I think it was completely unnecessary.
The only thing the second season served was to see a more deteriorated Michael Desiato, less intelligent, powerless, unmotivated, and truly meaningless.
A pesar de todo, creo que si la serie se hubiese quedado en la primera temporada, me hubiese dejado un mejor sabor de boca, ya que la segunda temporada aunque tal vez tenía uno o dos puntos que desarrollar, no lo lograron y por esto creo que fue totalmente innecesaria.
Para lo único que sirvió la segunda temporada fue para ver a un Michael Desiato más deteriorado, menos inteligente, sin poder, sin motivaciones y realmente ya no tenía sentido.
It's unfortunate that they wasted this basic plot, which was quite interesting in its premise, and the violence of the two series I mentioned above wasn't even necessary. There are series like Succesion that, without explicit violence, manage to reach an incredible climax, a boiling point in its characters, and a pace that grows and grows, making us think there's no way out, only to then shock us with more plot.
If there's one thing worth highlighting, it's Bryan Cranston's incredible performance, but I feel the series felt very restrained, lacking in pace, lacking in strength from its antagonists and growth from its protagonist.
Es lamentable que hayan desperdiciado esta trama base, que en su premisa era bastante interesante, y no era necesaria ni siquiera la violencia de las dos series que mencioné anteriormente, hay series como Succesion que sin violencia explícita, logran alcanzar un clímax increíble, un punto de ebullición en sus personajes y un ritmo que va creciendo y creciendo, haciéndonos pensar que no hay salida, para luego impactarnos con más trama.
Si algo hay que destacar es la increíble actuación de Bryan Cranston, pero la serie siento que se quedó muy contenida, baja en ritmo, falta de fuerza de sus antagonistas y de crecimiento de su protagonista.
If you decide to watch YOUR HONOR, I recommend the first season, as the second season is very unnecessary. The protagonist's ending is absurd, and I don't think you'll like seeing it reduced.
Si te animas a ver la serie YOUR HONOR, te recomiendo que veas la primera temporada, ya la segunda temporada es muy innecesaria, el final del protagonista es absurdo y creo que no te va a gustar verlo reducido.
