Bad Thoughts is structured as a series of what I had to google to find out called vignettes ( giving an account or description of each episode in the episode), cos it was my first time watching something like this and I was at first confused and then intrigued with each exploring a different dark comedic scenario. The first episode of Bad Thoughts really had me hooked to be honest and sorry to say, the other episodes just couldn’t really live up to the first one, Tom Segura’s dark comedy series on Netflix (of course), kicks off with a chaotic and absurd sketch set in Havana. In this vignette, a botched assassination attempt spirals into a series of mishaps, blending physical comedy with some pretty graphic toilet humor(I wont say more than that). Another notable segment features Rex Henley (played by Tom Segura), a global country music star who, after losing his creative drive, resorts to kidnapping his fans and forcing them to live in an impoverished, poor town. There, he compels them to reveal their most personal and traumatic experiences in hopes of finding inspiration for a new hit song. This vignette exemplifies the show's commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring somewhat uncomfortable themes through humor or rather dark humor. Critics have of course had mixed reactions to Bad Thoughts, even my reaction to it is mixed, some episodes are a hit and some I feel are a huge miss.
Some reviewers have of course criticized the show for lacking depth and relying heavily on shock value, which I kinda relate to in all honesty. Some people have appreciated the show's bold approach, cos as i’ve said I haven’t watched anything like it in a long time, while others feel that it falls short of expectations. Finally need to emphasize that the series is graphic and is definitely rated R, like a hard ‘R’. As such if you prefer more conventional comedic narratives, this series may not align with your tastes or to put it plainly will not be for you. I would give the series a 5/7 over 10.
