On August 22nd, 2021 the third round of the Dark Forest v0.6 game will begin.
The round is named Race to the Center.
It's a race to the center of the universe.
Your score is dependent on how close you can get to the center (0,0) of the universe.
Please note that:
- After capturing a planet, you must claim that planet for it to be considered for scoring.
- Only one claimed lvl 3+ planet is considered for each player's score - your closest claimed planet to (0,0) will override the score of your others.
- If another player steals your planet and then claims it (even if you've previously claimed it), that planet will no longer be considered for your score.
- A planet can be claimed, at most, once every 3 hours.
- At the center of the universe (0,0), there is a single lvl 9 planet. Holding this planet at the end of the round will be a guaranteed first place, as it is the center of the universe.
- In the event of a tie, 'time of claim' will be used as a tiebreaker.
What is Dark Forest?
It is a book trilogy written by the best-known Chinese SciFi writer Liu Cixin.
I read all Liu's books that I could find in the libraries. It is a fascinating technical and hard SciFi with a narrative spanning billions of years, literally.
I wrote two posts about the books last year:
- The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu [Book Review] with the Goodreads review
- [Now Reading] Cixin Liu - The Dark Forest
What is the Dark Forest game?
Game's front page screenshot
There is a Tree-Body problem game in the trilogy which is central to the first book. I didn't know that there really is a game based on the Dark Forest universe.
I still don't know how the game is played since it is invitation only.
You step in line and you maybe receive the key to enter the game in its next round. I received two keys and I will use one for myself.
Does anybody want the second key?
@steevc, I see you weren't excited with the first book. What about the game? :)
Entering the game
Since this is an Ethereum based game I connected my wallet when I joined the waiting list. Now I'll enter the key:
As you can see the game mimics the terminal. Some find this approach attractive, I guess.
After game data is loaded ...
Finding the home planet shows an error:
Obviously, transactions are approved via a pop-up window:
I have a planer now:
A warning about the transaction fees:
Backing up private key and home planet coordinates:
Finally, the home screen of the game:
I'll take a break now and return for the tutorials :)
