Been a while now since I got my fingers scrolling through the Facebook page.
Some days ago I was with my boss at work. I have been attending daily since March this year. But at some point, I realized I already started to pay little attention to my online activities. I thought of making some excuses and being free, but I just felt I should have some more patience.
There was a day when I told him I would like to take some leave so I could focus more on my work. He asked if I got a new job and I didn’t get to tell him about it. I smiled. I told him my work is online and my phone is my workplace. He gave me the leave and I was able to focus more on the June Zealy campaign hosted by the LeoFinance community.
A few days ago I went to see him and he asked about the online job I told him about. He asked if he wanted to know more about how it works. I couldn’t explain that much to him verbally. But I would need to explain better by example.
Onboarding hive
I started by telling him more about decentralization and how it had evolved, the crypto space, tokenization, marketplace, the DApps, and many more. He still wasn't getting my explanation not until I mentioned the blockchain technology and Web3 interface. He said no. So the platform operates on web3 and the blockchain? He picked interest immediately and asked for a signup.
Before that, he told me about several experiences he had with scam projects claiming to pay people online for their work. He told me about his experience with a website where he already claimed some meaningful amount of money, then when he was about to withdraw he wasn’t granted access because he was from Nigeria. Since then he felt most of these online stuff aren't real and mostly scam
I told him that I had deleted my Facebook account years ago. When I had my first encounter with web3 and crypto. Steemit was my first experience, and since then I haven’t derailed from learning more about the blockchain and that paved my way down to hive today.
He was so surprised, that he asked about other social media accounts of mine like X, Instagram, telegram, TikTok, and others. I told him I use WhatsApp mostly and that’s because of its instant messaging features, and that my X account is there to aid my experience on web3. Other media apps have been deleted and it's been a while since I checked them.
He confirmed spending his whole leisure watching Facebook and Instagram reels. But he said he would find a way to stop wasting his time and efforts on them instead he would channel his energy on Hive and then earn better.
Welcome to the decentralized world
A few days ago I tried getting an account for him on Hive. At least he can start some engagement and not even make a post yet. But here on Hive, I believe engagement matters most especially to users that are new on board. With time they get to learn more about how the platform works.
We tried signing up using the Ecency app, and after several trials, we got to know that Ecency already run out of account creation for the time being. The next was to try out peakd interface to see what they would offer. And this was because he felt he could navigate Ecency better than peakd. We tried peakd and were not even able to create one due to network failure and time out.
Lastly, we had to use INLEO, he asked if INLEO is the same as other DApps and I showed him my post on inleo and other dapps too. He realized it was the same but was wondering how they get to have threads for short posts and all other sports like the poll and their very own token too.
I told him, bursting his brain, to sign up using the LeoAuth sign-up option. He was surprised to see that the signup that has been giving us issues was just something so easy to get on using the Leo Auth. He created an account in a blink using his Google account. He was so happy about it and promised to try his best to understand more about the navigation on the platform.
