Moments, the microblogging version of Hive, has been live for a couple of weeks now, if not longer. I only had the chance to test it out today because, well, I can be a lazy fucker sometimes. But let me tell you, aside from the slick design of the Liketu interface, the mobile functionality on my Brave browser is top-notch.
I just had my first moment on Liketu, and I really like the idea. I have to say, @elmerlin has a brilliant mind. I don't know what the guy is taking, but I love his ideas, his vision for Hive, and how dedicated he is. He and @khaleelkazi have the potential to change the way we interact with the Hive blockchain in a big way.
Now, this isn't a post where I'm kissing Khal and Elmer's asses or anything. I highly doubt these two have enough cash combined to pay me for that :)). This post is about an idea, a longing that I've had for Hive (or Steem, as it was called back then) for a long time.
You see, when I joined the platform (blockchain), Steem was all about long-form content. Any attempt to post pictures with a short text was seen as spam and often downvoted. I kind of understood the reasoning behind it. Given how some people spam Leothreads, it's easy to see why the influential faces of Hive wanted to keep the chain clean of such content.
Leothreads is a promise Khal made a long time ago, and it has recently become a working product. The app is far from perfect, but nothing is born perfect, so we need to be patient as it's being polished. However, Leothreads fulfilled an old desire of mine for Hive ("legal shitposting"), and now #moments on Liketu is adding to it.
We live in the era of speed, and if you look at all those famous social media apps, you'll see that they're all about short-form content, quick ideas, pictures, and videos. We didn't have that. We were striving for mass adoption, but we were actually shooting for the stars with blind bullets. The world of bloggers is quite limited.
On the other hand, the world of shitposters is wide open. Having at least two highly desirable microblogging apps for such content puts Hive in a position to rival the big names.
We might not reach millions of users, but we have way better chances of attracting users when we offer a "fully packed platform" rather than just the ability to write long-form content and post videos through outdated and sometimes dull interfaces.
Some feared microblogging because they only saw the potential spam that this type of content could generate. But that's just a "tiny side effect," if I may call it that. Both Leothreads and Moments don't put the content on the main layer. If you don't want to participate in shitposting, you can rest assured that you'll have a clean feed full of long-form content to enjoy.
In order to generate traffic, ad revenues, and attract a wide variety of users, Hive needed this type of content alongside long-form content. It's an idea I bragged about many years ago, and now I'm thrilled to see that there's more than one way to shitpost on Hive without clogging anyone's feed. You just enter these "chat rooms" and get lost for hours.
It's that easy... And hey, you might even earn some tokens along the way. So why not give them both a try?
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
