Week is ending over Asia and this is my Post Comment:
Geopolitical tensions continue to dominate market sentiment as the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates. Asian shares edged higher Friday, with investors cautiously relieved that a U.S. military response appears delayed—for now. However, uncertainty remains high as President Trump weighs potential involvement in the Middle East conflict.
Brent crude fell over 2% to $77.23, though it's still on track for a weekly gain, showing how volatile oil remains amid regional instability. Lower energy prices helped lift European futures, while U.S. equity futures dipped slightly despite the holiday-shortened week.
Oil (BZ) is 76.74 at the moment of this post.
In Asia, Hong Kong and South Korea led gains, buoyed by domestic policy moves, while Japan remained flat. Central bank actions were also in focus: China held rates steady, while Japan’s inflation pressures grow, though rate hikes remain unlikely before year-end.
Currencies saw the dollar retreat slightly, with the euro and pound inching upward. Meanwhile, gold continued its downward trend, pressured by stronger yields and reduced safe-haven demand—though that could quickly reverse if tensions flare again.
Bottom line: Markets are breathing a temporary sigh of relief—but the fragile calm could shatter fast in the face of fresh geopolitical or policy developments.
