Farming in general is not an easy thing. Sometimes the yield is good, and sometimes it can result in a huge loss due to rain and other factors. Tree farming is also another challenging thing, and it can have its challenges. These days, some farmers are getting better and changing their strategies. Choosing the right tree may be responsible for increasing the yield. One such high-profit tree right now is the Nutmeg tree.
In Kerala, many farmers have stopped cultivating Rubber plantations. In farm lands where Rubber trees are no longer giving any yield, they chop down the trees and either plant new trees or go for a different tree. These days, farmers are not planting Rubber trees anymore. Instead, they are looking at Nutmeg. The demand for Rubber has reduced greatly in the market. The Rubber usage was mostly in the Tyre business, and these days there are other alternatives available to Rubber and Nylon tyres, and plastic tyres are the best alternatives available these days.
People stop growing Rubber trees and instead go for other trees like Sandal, Nutmeg and Bamboo trees. These are the best commercial trees because they give a great profit during the yield compared to what Rubber used to give. Rubber trees can take about 3 to 5 years to start yielding income, but they may not be very great. But Nutmeg trees can start providing Yields at about 3 years and gradually keep growing. The demand for Nutmeg is very high in the market. Both the fruit and the flower have a great rate in the market. It is also said that as the tree grows older, the yield will also be very good.
Today, finding farmers who know how to extract rubber has also decreased. They charge a big price, which is not affordable anymore. Nutmeg is giving a good yield, and paying a bigger price is not a problem here. I think it is just a cycle. When the demand for Rubber increases and when there are only a few people in the market, people might gradually switch. If more people get into the Nutmeg business, there again the value can go down. I think it is just a cycle.
