Now is the right time to set up a garden in Tamil Nadu. This local month is celebrated as the month for sowing seeds. Some crops, if planted now, can yield a harvest in the month of January, and that's how it is being done. Some crops that are dependent on water will have enough during this part of the year because there is always rain in the next few months.
A few days back, when I was taking a look at my garden, I was able to see that many bees were roaming around, and some of those bees were very colorful to watch. I used to always wonder what made the bees and the other pollinators recognize the flowers and collect honey and pollen grains from them. Flowers emit a strong scent, and that is what attracts the pollinators. I know for a fact that not only bees or wasps, but also ants are good pollinators. In some way, this strong smell is what is attracting the pollinators.
I noticed that bees also visit the flowers that do not have any scent. That is when I realized that it is not mandatory that we smell all the flowers. There can be some flowers whose smell is not evident to humans but might be strong enough for the bees and other pollinators. Some flowers might even have a heavy smell, where the pollinators get dizzy with the smell. I got this idea because some levels of sound are not audible to human ears, but they still affect Humans. Similarly, there can be smells on all the flowers, and some of those can be sensed by human beings, and some may not be sensed.
The beauty of creation and nature is astonishing. There might soon be a study that can find a device that can measure the smell or differentiate the smell. Today, we don't have any such device that can tell us whether a smell is of Jasmine or Rosemary. This is one thing that technology has not shown any significant breakthrough in. Currently, smells can only be sensed using our human sense organs, and of course, all other living beings also have similar senses, but there is no artificial process or device, or invention to do this sensing.
